because people driving and having data go across their eyes is an amazing concept!
no i mean if you are using it you look into the air seeing something nobody else can see. and that results in looking crazy.
i remember when i was a kid my parents told me not to set to close to the tv or i would need glasses. now people are sticking light bulbs in contacts.
Pupils in every school will be keeping and eye out for these gadgets!
you misunderstand; the goal is to use very small pixels and put it in the center of the eye; alternatively, they can put a motion sensor in and change the display based on eye orientation, so you could literally look down to check the time. Seriously though, I'd expect this to be offered as an implant at some point.
Not implausible. I can easily envision a company making high tech contact lenses like these selling the premium ad free one, and a cheaper one with adds....
So there will be a bunch of people doing work, just sitting there, staring into space and totally vulnerable. Wow, that will be very useful.
Contact lenses replacing screens? I doubt it for one simple reason: convenience.
Most people have a TV in their home, but it didn't replace the cinema.
good point. I think its good while you lounge around with your buds, or chillin at your house
i have an essay due tomorrow WHY ARE THESE VIDEOS SUDDENLY REALLY REALLY INTERESTING?!!!
You know, the title is kind of misleading. I mean, when they said Terminator-style contacts, I thought they meant contacts that light up and glow red. Now that would be awesome.
They haven't quite got the bullets down yet. Something to do with EMI and RFI from the gun itself.
They have the mana/magika down pat, though, if you're willing to learn magelight or something.
and with this, comes the possibility of the government adding mini camera's to track your exact location.
unfortunately it would have to be big enough to compensate for the blind spot in the optic nerve.
my point being that morse code was a starting point for long distance communication. Then they had huge clunky cellphones that could've probably microwave your breakfast and now they're small and powerful as a laptop (almost).
The concept though reminds me of Futurama when they got the new 'EYE PHONE' and similar to WALL-E where people were super fat and never left their chair because everything was at the touch of a button. They were never really aware of the world around them.
they invented one in the 60's...but it had fold up wings...check it out. And technically they have invented it, it's just not in production for the masses
This is seriously like something out of Shiro Masamune's Ghost in the Shell manga.
So I was walking across the road and an advert came on my contact lens screen for lawyer 4 you. I couldn't see where I was going and got hit by a car. luckily I had just the right number to call :)
i would just hack into peoples eyes and put a trollface there
1 bad thing, you cant look at the thing, it will just move with your eye
the moment these will be on the market i'll probably die.
This..I have also often dreamed about.
Would be so awesome during class, just start watching gameplay videos.
"One pixel of information?"
It's completely impossible for any information to be contained in one pixel.
(except its color, and I'm better it's not a 32 million color palette pixel)
I started using contact lenses today.
I'm already searching for this.
I'm ambitious >.>
@PivotXL1 right, but we're quite a ways from that,we do have basic mind control technology for computers, but it takes a huge setup. And it's not for public use yet.
I was thinking of it in terms of what's publicly available at this time .
health-stamina-energy
"Not Enough Energy"
"I NEED More Energy"
Would love to see one of these things actually on someones eyes already. I mean, it's cool to see them and that they exist and how far we have come, but how wqill it actually look on someone's eye.
So much for mum tellin me "Don't sit to close to the TV".....
Has anyone here read the book "Feed"? This definitely reminds me of it.
"Metal antenna directly on the lens"
Fuck that, I am not putting that shit on my eyeball. Hell no.
Imagine how many people will run into/off of things!
it would be irritating if there were to be pop up adds in it like in an actual computer
Forget the privacy screen protector.....This is all IN 1!!
If I had a dollar for every pixel that thing can record... oh, screw it.
How could you possibly focus on something that close?
Then someone hacks your contact lenses and goes Clockwork Orange on you. "NO! NOT LUDWIG VAN!!"
Vernor Vinge wrote about this in one of his SF novels, the screen is in the contact the and the server in the clothes.
I didn't even think about color or shades of gray.
And they thought talking on your phone while driving was dangerous!
Contact lenses shouldn't be worn in excess to begin with. I can't imagine the damage something like this could do to someone's eye.
Completely useless.
@13804 In order to be able to watch it in 1080p, you would need to use something other than silicon. Silicon is unstable at the molecular level, so using a tiny chip made out of it won't work. And trying to shrink a prossesor and everything on your laptop into a contact lens? Don't expect this to be working in the next century.
What if they hacked the lens, without you finding out, so that a random screamer pops up... I'll would literally shit myself.
how the hell would you focus on something that's on the surface of your eye?
yes it is
*straps ipod to face* anyone can do that!
i would love to have radio waves being picked up and sent out of my eyes
Google Glass Is Halfway There.
its ok until you have an advert pop up and you crash your car,
YES THE ''EYE-POD IS HERE.
You'd have to be careful you didn't set it off whilst driving!
its exciting and scary at the same time.
I think they call it retina display.
Only if you had that idea over 9 years ago
@PaladinPK Indeed my friend!!
I cant wait to sit through adds before I can use my own eyes!
And, if you're not using a smartphone or anything else, how are you supposed to interact with the informations displayed, it's juste like a screen, nothing more, but this could be interesting for the army or surgery, domains who only needs to have a load of informations at the same moment to do their work...
I like the idea but like wouldnt that make you really dizzy because of how close the image appears to your I?!
@NickellNo1 Thanks!
I have a feeling it will be more like iLens.
Can you imagine screamers on youtube? Even if you blink, it doesnt go away!
I'd settle for a "Pip-Boy."
ipod will be begging them for licencing
What if you accidentally load up Fallout when you wake up and think that the world has ended?
And there i was riding my motorbike when "you have mail" ...... Crash
I'd hate to be the first person to try wearing them overnight. >_>
This was in use so long ago by Intell agencies on top lvl and military
and then they can shut off your eyes whenever they want...
remember when mom said if you sit too close to the tv youll go blind....
If they actually made it so we could watch stuff and use all sorts of things on a contact lense that would be awesome! But i doubt some governments would allow this tech to be released , seeing as it would make them lose out on tax revenue.
it can show one pixel of info? hell yea! thats about half of youtube!
I just drank a 1/5 of Vodka, dare me to drive?
Such a bad idea, then you would have to either buy a new thing for your computer to work with the lense or pull a cable from your computer to your eye..? ._.
Oh, and it's a car insurance advert to :P
why not just have that on a pair of glasses not on your eye?!
I remember the eyephone from FUTUREAMA !!
@francis25069 its wireless but impractical right now being that the power source needs to be less than a 1/4 inch away
5 years later:
Eye tumors.
id put the answers to my math test on that thing
Be awesome having a HUD
This will cost a lot..
Can anyone please explain to me how the human eye will be able to actually focus on something that close to your retina?
More like Ghost In The Shell, minus the cyber brain and prosthestics
@Agouti Making it as small as the tip of a pin.
where's it gonna be on your eye though?
cause I wouldn't be a fan of a lightswitch looking thing on my eyeball :/
One pixel can be "on" or "off". Ever heard of Morse Code?
oh fu** now i gotta change my cellphone number again... er i mean contactlens ID
how, its a clear contact lens? have u ever noticed a person wearing cotact lens's before???
The pixels have more pixels inside em!. you can only play Tetris. Tetris all day long.
how the fuck would anyone focus on text so extremely close to the eye?
she sounds like bear grylls
I swear they stole my idea!
Everyone is going to look like they are crazy.
This would still be quite primitive, it would be digital data sent to an analogue receiver. Much like a screen and an eye, which is basically what this is, only in extreme closeup.
The next level would be a direct input into the brain itself. Like removing the analogue eye for an improved one with digital feedback. I only see this contact thing to be an improvement on todays products, thats basically it. Still, dangerous though....
what the hell am i going to do with a pixel?
THE EYE-POD??
Imagine being able to get cancer in the eye!? isn't that amazing!?
What does this have to do with Terminator?
@Notrichardsea Maybe transmitted to an earpiece inside the ear? Just a thought.
That narrator's voice is so aggravating.
And what if you're driving and somebody e-mails you? I feel like visibility would be zero.
Oh please, google glasses.
