Pretty common on VAG based cars. Know a few Seat owners whose cars eat coils for breakfast. Cheap aftermarket ones are false economy, you end up spending more in the long run than if you buy the OE coils in the first place.
Ironically I was just looking at thermal imagers on Amazon thinking about getting one just for this very purpose and I agree with you on the aftermarket coils I've had the same experience they just don't seem to last very long
Guess the fault is a game I often play and I nailed it! I also do the same when I visit my local A&E who banned my after diagnosing several patients with adverse reactions to the jabby jabby. 😅😅😅
Out of curiosity , which aftermarket coil brand was it ? I know there's s*** load of them and they're all the same just sold/repacked via various different brand names and differs a bit price wise to trick people/buyers but essentially the same Chinesium crap . Thus it"s hard to find good quality aftermarket coils nowadays .

There are some items where snidey parts are totally fine, but there some that must be dealer parts only,
Why was there a hot spot with no combustion
I've changed a few of them in father in law's car, he won't pay for genuine ones either 🙄
