Well may i ask what you expected to see out of a torquay hotel bedroom window? Sydney opera house perhaps? The hanging gardens of babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically......
Just came back from here for 3 days and can defo confirm it’s not as bad as you’re making it out to be. I’d love to see you return and make an updated version of this video to hear your thoughts again as I believe it’s far better than your bog standard Travelodge or Pontins chalet.
Lol, it's always fun seeing other people's perspectives. I remember rotary phones before push button dialing lol. I also remember houses having NO phones and you had to walk a couple of streets over to use the phone box, armed with a stack of 10ps to keep feeding it, if you wanted to talk to somebody for any length of time. It was that or meet in person. No house phone, and obviously no mobile phone - fun if it was peeing down with rain! Have you ever seen a typical 1980s TV? Lol, back breaking to lift if you had a large screen one. My parents had one on a big cabinet stand thing in front of the window and you could only just reach over the top of it to close the curtains behind it - not a flat screen in sight. The TVs were at least as deep as they were wide. They didn't say "Let's see what's on the BOX" for nothing! I had a black and white TV ("box") with a crap little aerial attached (which looked a bit like a rubbish halo for an angel costume in a school Nativity play - it just needed tinsel) for my bedroom and you had to turn a numbered dial to tune it in - no autotune, and no remote control either. The picture was often quite snowy. And I was lucky to have a TV at all in my bedroom as a kid lol, it wasn't standard to have one in almost every room. I think life's absolutely peachy nowadays, when I put my feet up on my bed and press a remote control for a wall mounted flat screen, colour telly. How times have changed! 😄
For work there ain’t anything wrong with that with breakfast included for £45. Although I’d prefer somewhere nicer if I was going somewhere with the Mrs x
You hit the nail on the head at the end of your review, me and my family on first arrival was like, we should leave, we stayed and actually booked an extra night.....been going back ever since, first stayed at the carlton then had extra night at the Victoria, been going back as our 2nd holiday each October, yes it is very dated in many factors and if you supplement the dinner, it aint too bad, you never mentioned the breakfast, it is normally buffet and pretty good, the Aztec bar/restaurant is pretty good on its food, for what you pay, which is something that should stay in context, as you get what you pay for.....it is pretty relaxing, never been high season, but October is pretty good, you don't even have to leave the complex........it is a relaxing place, as for room.....yeah yours looked pretty grim along with view, I have the same apartment in the Victoria.....it is big and has sea view....

Margins are tight in the Hotel trade, I worked in most of Torbay's main Hotels during the 80s and managed a few. I have stayed in some dreadful Hotels whilst working as an Assessor, most have been in the cities. It costs a lot to convert/upgrade Victorian houses to meet the "travelodge gen" expectations of generic rooms. From memory, I think that Torquay only ever had one purpose built Hotel back in the day, The Imperial and the rest are converted houses. I thought there were good facilities and the room was... a standard single, not sure what he was expecting? Probably needs to try a few more before setting himself up as a critic? However hard Torbay tries it has lost those golden years and will never be another Monte Carlo, thems that can afford it, go to the South of France for their Palm trees. Still have a fond spot for the area though I moved out years a go, went back before Covid and it has gone down hill and lost it's charm.
A place like this in the United States would be like $200 a night which translates roughly to around 145 pounds. Seriously anything below $100 is like a crack house here in the states. Also they wouldn't have anything like food or swimming nor any entertainment.
Tbh the only time I go there is when I go swimming in there the swimming pools are amazing they just need to update the rest of it paint it up jet wash the tiles outside modernise the rooms and it would be a great hotel for Torbay
We have booked a cheap deal weekend later on in the year. We have been before and being older might not notice the 80s vibe quite so much. We are going to just make the most of whatever..... get cooked for is a treat for me .... some entertainment.... love a swim ...... quick look at Torquay and vist a NT property nearby which is on my to do list. We see it as an extra get away and doing it because its cheap. We have stayed at the Imperial before on a special offer but still three times dearer than the Derwent though the room was good quality it wasnt what we would call modern. We have stayed at the Headland Hotel Newquay now thats another world - so spoilt! Suppose we get what we pay for most of the time
@@LifeofJoeJordan We did thank you. The room was fresh though dated not one of the blue coloured ones. C'mon, you showed 15% of that complex and really focused on the bad parts. Its pros really do outweigh its cons. Where was the arcade area, ten pin bowling, soft play, archery, gym, spa, the five restaurants, all the pools, its multiple bars, the gardens and all of the grand ballrooms? Also, you can get some really nice big rooms there with sea views. It's like you set the place up for the bad review. To anyone who is looking into this hotel, please don't take this review as the gospel. It really is a great place to stay. But regardless of opinions, this really is a terrible review. If you're going to review a place, make sure you get everything and not just the negatives.
@@LifeofJoeJordan Whilst I totally respect your opinion on the hotel, I do think it's unfair and unjust to review a business and only show the negatives, when there was so much more to that complex. If it was restricted due to covid, then you should not have done the review. Reviews are largely supposed to allow the viewer to make up their mind, but you largely influenced it to be negative and, as said multiple time, did not even show half of that building. Let's not forget how hard times are right now, and you could potentially and unjustly be removing business and costing people their jobs. This isn't an adequate review, far from it and you know this. I don't agree with what you have done and I don't think anyone should be using this review, or possibly any of your reviews, to help them decide on destinations.
