I'm surprised you didn't mention the South Koreans - their arms manufacturing is on roll at the moment and seems to be producing high quality weapons at relatively attractive prices.
Yes indeed, they go with any outfit…
but, is it sexy tech for sexy prices?
@@paulklee5790 Especially tank tops...
Perhaps because the South Korean kit isn't going to hot zones?
@@AllahuAkhbarMuhammadJihad No. It is apparently good tech at reasonable price. That is, it is not guite as advanced as the best of the best of say US tech, but at significantly lower price and it is definitely better than say Russian tech.
The US also keeps the best equipment for itself. F22 being a prime example no exports allowed. The export versions are usually downgraded compared to the domestic use equipment.
Sounds like South Korea and Turkey have been entering the arms trade business recently, too. Both are producing some pretty high quality weapon systems.
Ah yes, my Monday morning injection of happiness to start of the week.
Drone wars will make war more costly . It will be advantageous to improve the explosive capability of smaller bombs that drones carry . Electronic jamming will also play a larger part as we have seen from the Russians .

What, the UAE doesn't fly it's jet fighters?! I think this is some serious misunderstanding. The UAE has involved itself in several armed conflicts over recent years (Yemen, Libya, Sudan). They have bombed many places. They've taken over Socotra island.
They absolutely use their equipment in anger and have a militaristic foreign policy.
I understand that when you refer to “low level conflict” the term is being used in a geopolitical sense. Unfortunately, this same term as applied to Sudan and other places belies the unbelievable pain and suffering that the people in such circumstances are suffering. We in the West are so used to living in security and prosperity that we cannot begin to imagine what these people go through on a daily basis. And, unfortunately, these “low level conflicts” are largely unreported. Very sad.
That was an excellent video, my friend!
Thank you
Thanks Peter.
Thanks for doing what you do big guy. I make sure to catch as much of your content as possible daily. Keep up the good work. We need more like you out there dishing out useful information.
Hello Peter I'm an Iranian. Please talk about Iran's recent threats to revise its nuclear policy and maybe making a move towards the production of atomic bombs.
Interesting fact: a few days ago, a council of some North Korean "economists" came to visit Iran. Now Iran is not desperate to such an extent to seek economical advice from NK. Even worse, Iran pulled out a few missiles from the silos and erected them to show them off to the "economists" from NK. Isn't that funny.
They are economists in the sense that they make it expensive for the US to invade :)
"Nuclear weapons are economics by other means" - norht korean von Clausewitz, probably.
No, it is not funny, it is serious. And the popular press is not paying attention. I hope the right people in major countries are paying attention.

Good insight. I made that case at the start of the Ukraine war. The drone has made the tank obsolete as the main line weapon system in the military. Still to come are swarms of AI drones mounted with their own command and control that come in waves of hundreds targeting not only the objective but defensive stations as well. Along with that swarms of ground based droned with mounted rifles and sniper rifles that can sweep an area both urban and in trenches. All for 1/10th the cost of our current systems and without risk to personnel. After that counter strike drones, ECM's and deep strikes on control points - its a whole new warfare - on in which the 800 billion defense budget stands toe to toe with the 8 billion drone budget.
DGI and China in general are much more advanced in terms of price preformance.
1/10TH? YEAH OK GOOD LUCK WITH THOSE NUMBERS
Guess you never heard of Rheinmetall's Skyranger 30, and countless others just like it, so much for the underdog, but 800 milli can buy you a ton of fancy RC toys :).
I think you are over estimating drone capabilities. In the end of the day, drone warfare will still have the same major vulnerability of conventional warfare, logistics. These drones all need fuel to operate, and those supply lines will be huge targets for the opposing force.
saying the tank is obsolete shows a lack of knowledge on the subject
Thanks!

Fully appreciate the accurate use/intention of the phrase "Persian scientists" in relation to their shortcomings. It shows that the longer/older historical achievements from centuries ago fade along with the power those peoples enjoyed. Any culture that used to be an 'empire' or major contributor to the world will never again achieve those level of success, power or influence ever again and now are just a sad watering down of those former conquerors, who themselves got conquered. This is why you see the death throes in Russia and China... desparately trying to remain relevant in a world that is largely passing their accomplishments farewell.
You should probably check your facts and figures. Russia and China are getting stronger every day.

What is the level of technical sophistication of the Iranian drones? Where are the chips coming from? Does Iran have any semiconductor fabrication infrastructure of its own?
Is the Laser ever going to be a defensive weapon capable of taking out drones?
Thinking about the economics point of view, the question of how expensive is it to stop these attacks versus how much does it cost to rebuild? Whatever they destroy is a pretty decent metric to consider as well. I guess one of the fundamental reasons why these kinds of weapons are not in major use by other powers is due to the relative capacities of already existing military forces. The US has been flying predator drones for so long, kind of doesn't even really make sense for us to invest in something that is less capable, even if there's a budget option

UAE had their own F-16E/F Desert Falcons developed specifically for them. Unit cost was over $200 million each, whereas an F-35A is $77.9 million. UAE went all-out on the F-16E/F, even got their own engine for it from GE with 32,000lb thrust. Test pilots who worked on other test programs said it was the most smoothly-run fighter they had ever been involved with for the development cycle, mainly because the Pentagon wasn’t really involved. It was just Lockheed and UAE working together.
Uae 🇦🇪 is a enemy to the middle east arabs ain't they
So Peter, Good analysis over-all, but misses a few details when it comes to projecting these trends into the future.
There really isn't a hard line between "Cruise Missile" and "Autonomous Suicide Drone"... but drones are typically seen as the more low-end side of that continuum. And that is inherent in the core aspect of drone warfare that you high-lighted: It costs more to shoot one down than it costs to launch one. But this is because the missile defense technologies are designed to shoot down high end high velocity electromagnetically hardened missiles. That isn't going to remain the case for long. Indeed we're already seeing, in the more advanced integrated anti-missile systems like Iron Dome, systems to match incoming targets with counter-measures commensurate to their threat level. As such, we are going to see, as drones become more and more relevant, a resurgence of high end EM warfare, an entry of lasers, a return of traditional anti-aircraft guns, all supplementing a diversity of anti-missile missiles. And all of these systems will be modernized and networked with advanced AI-enabled radars and sensors designed to not just locate but identify incoming threats in real time and then deploy just enough of the right countermeasures to neutralize it. It will be very expensive to develop such kit, but once developed, it will be relatively cheap to deploy and use it... This will be the defensive version of what you talked about when analyzing the HIMARS and its effectiveness being gated by access to US intelligence resources. The US and other developed powers will be happy to give you weapons and defense systems, but they will only work to capacity if they continuously supply you with intelligence and satellite images and air tracking data. Which means, by using their weapons, you become a wholly owned subsidiary.
Isn't India trying to step up their arms manufacturing? Or is that for internal consumption only?

Do Haitian gangs have high tech bros on that project?
Mexican drug gangs were early adopters of using drones to attack each other.
What are they going to use them on? The Iranian drones aren't smart enough to target individuals. They'd be targeting infrastructure, and I'm not sure what they could target cost effectively.
I guess drones could help them find rival gangs, but those wouldn't be Iranian.

could laser air defense be an economic means against cheap drones?
No the price for a military laser system is way to high you'd be better off trying to jam them exleast if we're talking about any nation that doesn't spend billions on military spending
Yes and no, the time on target to aim them is a little hard to maintain. But it's about 13ish dollars of electricity per shot. The equipment to fire it is still fairly expensive but it is dropping as it hits scale production.

Shahid(شَهید): martyr
The drone’s name is Shahed(شاهد) meaning Witness. I believe it is from Shahed verse in Quran. The Shias believe the Shahed is Imam Ali who was the right hand of the prophet Mohammed.
