  • The Bible describes a God concerned with justice. It also describes a God of mercy. In this clip from our course, Ethnicity, Justice, and the People of God, Prof. Esau McCaulley, defines biblical justice using a plethora of scriptural texts. Prof. McCaulley also highlights the tension between God's justice and mercy; a tension which is ultimately resolved on the Cross.

His ways are higher than our ways!!!! Thank God. A legalistic minded person will always define justice as payback or reaping as you sow for your sins. Showing, they have never had a spiritual rebirth and don't really know The Truth, the God of Grace, Jesus. They are blinded by their old covenant mentality and the veil of the law was never removed from blinding them to The Truth......

Without justice there is no mercy. Without justice there is no healing. But God's love precedes all justice. It is because of His love for those who suffer that He demands redress. If you love someone you want them to be treated right and to see them misused and abused causes you distress. In Exodus, the cries and groans of the Israelites were not directed specifically to God but He still heard them. And He acted. Love and justice are two sides of the same coin.

Thanks for your reflections about the relationship between love and justice. Perhaps, one way God demonstrates his loves is by justly judging.
Love can hold one accountable without always exacting what is rightly deserved.
