Plenty of animals seen being wonderful has led to the extensive alpine & montaine vegetation and soil damage tahr have caused in the last 20 years Access into the wilderness etc ballot blocks was for the express purpose of enabling recreational khunters control those numbers as they asserted they could and would, and so comply with the tahr control plan population objectives. They couldn't, and wouldn't (which was predicted by a few with experience with tahr and hunters), so we now have the problem so much misinformation and poor decisions have produced. Some lateral thinking is needed to prevent the poison option being needed (and it's probably only partially effective). The scale of the problem is probably way beyond the capability of rec hunters. This will be evident either way by whether the management unit they have been tasked with proving their useful contribution has the tahr population lowered to below the tahr plan's max level. The actual best information population, not the estimate from helicopter addicts who also seem to have lost sight of tahr behaviour. Recerational and SAD DoC hunting have failed. A different tactic is needed. The best bulls can be left for bone collectors
Really enjoyed watching the playful bulls dropping down toward the scrub on fading light. Great bull there Jason, well done mate. The strategy to drop into the monkey scrub paid off big time. Kudos fellas, thanks for sharing jarod
