Here’s my story. I went on a binge of Criminal Minds, as I had just started the show on Netflix. I have some habits of falling asleep while in my recliner and watching something. At the time, I was located in my living room, which has a big flat screen and surround sound system. The volume was fairly loud, and I was sound asleep with numerous episodes of Criminal Minds playing in the background. This episode had just started, (because Netflix continuously loads episodes), and this chilling tune was playing. The bass line was emphasized because of the surround sounds, and the voice started to flood my home. I woke up in a mini panic because the tune was so chilling to me. Then I saw it. The fire in the house on the screen, and I just sat in awe, my heart tearing from seeing this random family being burned alive in their own home. I couldn’t help but be captivated by this song as chills traveled down my spine. I was always remember this scene, and think of it any time I hear this song.

This is one of my favorite episodes because it's very dramatic in the sense that you're seeing a family trying to escape a fire and then all their pictures burning and the song chosen is just haunting. This is my favorite opening scene for a Criminal Minds, and its mainly due to the music. It just fits perfectly. Haunting, foreboding, ominous. And the entire scene is done without anyone saying a word, yet you know what everyone is thinking. It's sampling, plenty of Hip Hop/R&B/Pop songs sample different sound elements from past artists all the time. Lauryn Hill herself even has been sampled before. Plus I think the Fugees had the sampled cleared if I'm not mistaking.

One of the best opening scenes I ever seen. Sad but it touched me in a way I never imagined. I will forever link this song to this scene. I was in a deep sleep and this rerun came on and the music woke me from my sleep. That’s how much it touched me.

This is an amazing video. The song adds to the sadness of it and the video was made for the music

I fall in love with this music, and then the scene it covers, good lord. Criminal minds is (as I experience) so undervalued and underviewed...Even with its remake and whatnot. Only a show like this would use music like this. Hawaii 5 0 is another of my favorites and don't get me wrong they pull heart strings all over the place. But this is another animal. I hate myself for praising CBS at this level haha

this show has taken my attitude towards trusting others and warped it; and I couldn't be happier.

For those who keep asking: "WHY DIDN'T THEY GO THROUGH THE WINDOW ?", here's a tip:
Ask a friend to set your house on fire while you're asleep, wake up (if you can), think (if you can anymore) and act (that becomes a little bit harder, huh ?!)...
Now, tell me how much of you passed through the window ?...
    OTHER DUMB QUESTIONS ??...

wow really good. I have heard the song before, but from everyone's descriptions the show captured the meaning of it perfectly. In fact they did such a good job I actually wish I could watch the episode now

Thanks for helping figure out what the song was. I've been looking for it ever since I first saw that Criminal Minds episode.
