The Annointment Re-Roller was MASSIVE. Farming the perfect gear PLUS the right Annointment was horrible. Definitely saved late game players from so much hassle.
Adding Mayhem scaling to action skill and shield effect damage was incredibly good for BL3. It unlocked a lot of build diversity by making action skill builds viable alternatives to gun builds, and by allowing us to use shields offensively (e.g. Frozen Heart, Faulty Star, The Stinger, Nova Berner, but still not the Rectifier). EDIT: and melee damage too! Everyone except Zane has a cool build that doesn't work without that melee scaling.
The game was supposed to be about guns though, and making mayhem accessible to every tom dick and harry causes huge stagnation with the oversaturation of loot. i wanted to like the game but mayne it takes a year to forget all the bs.
@@SToNeOwNzI feel like you just don’t want to like it because I’m borderlands 1, 2, & pre sequel it was the opposite case borderlands 2 especially because going from casual gamer to endgame OP 8 veteran was like going from middle school straight to Sophomore year in college for majority of people excluding Salvador players
@@SToNeOwNz nobody's forcing you to play those builds...there are plenty of gun-central options that work well but require plenty of farming. it's probably not a bad thing to make endgame content accessible to the majority of the player base and not require hours and hours of grinding just to START having fun. and call me crazy, but games that put this much emphasis on class/character abilities should let you actually get some mileage out of those abilities. Iron Bear and Phasegrasp might be a little overpowered, but if they just tickled enemies instead then there'd be so much less difference between Moze and Amara (who tend to use guns similarly thanks to a shared emphasis on splash and elemental damage) which means there's less to explore in the game, and you run into that BL2 situation where everyone uses BeeHawk because action skills fall off at endgame.
I think Zane's purple tree and Eraser was missed. That completely changed how Zane could be played, opened up so many more build options, and the whole tree increases his damage.
Eraser + conference call = Zer0 B0re skill. I find it ironic that Gearbox hated people farming bnk3r with CC and b0re yet ended up recreating it in bl3 with Zane and graveward.
I think the best thing Gearbox ever did was making co-operation mode where your loot is instanced to you and adding the lost loot machine so your co-op partner couldn't screw you out of legendaries. Everything else compared to that were quality of life improvements.
I still think the DNA is my personal favorite buff they’ve done. Made that gun go from a joke item that was Mayhem-locked and useless to a gun that could solo the hardest content in the game.
Another honorable mention 👀 Remember when they were going to remove all the fantastic new annointments they added with the Joey Ultraviolet content? But then the community came together and persuaded Gearbox to keep them all 😄 It wasnt an update or buff, per se, but THAT truly saved Borderlands 3 for me, personally.
I mained zane when the game came out and what stuck with me the most is when I ran the bubble shield action skill and constantly getting shot through it because of bug or something of the sort, it certainly was a miserable experience on top of everything else that zane struggled with so early in the games life span.
It was so tough maining zane the first playthrough. Everyone else talking about how awesome Fl4k and amara were and i'm here struggling with zane. The only thing that kept me on zane was his dialogue. It was the best out of all the characters.
Biggest buff is the remake of Borderlands 1. EVERY named boss drops at least 1 purple item. This made the early game when fighting sledge much easier since in the original game if you did all the quests you would still be 1-2 levels lower so having the extra firepower made the entire game more balanced and not as grindy
great reminder of all the great times we had looking through patch notes and being so excited to test the new dmg on guns. also, i believe the re-roll machine could have been a honorable mention too
when i disagree with a ranking on your list, it makes me think. thank you. your attitude, respect, and logic never make me question you. that’s what makes a great list.
my favorite buff has gotta be the butcher buff from bl3, it used to be kind of a decent weapon up until mayhem levels at the start of bl3's lifecycle but then it turned into an absolute monster by the end, easily landing a spot as one of the best shotguns in the game other than the hellwalker
entirely circumstantial, but i liked how the Claptastic Voyage DLC for The Pre-Sequel added the Loop Glitch Bug and let you spam dual wield Luck Cannons on Nisha. very funny, thank you gbx
Crit+ hail absolutely carried me into hail, its not even just mayhem 10/11 carrying the rest of the levels, but any mayhem level crit would happily holds up multiple levels and mayhem level. When nothing good wants to drop, knowing a crit is right there was so good
always loved using the lady fist. Pairing it with the fibber was such a fun build with sal, especially when playing with friends that were lower-leveled and you didn't want to just use your regular items
Not one buff in particular, but I loved all the daily hotfixes that happened during the $100,000 Loot Hunt in Borderlands 2. It was cool to hunt for a particular weapon that day, and now that weapon is even better than before
I'm surprised the reroll machine wasn't at least an honorable mention. Sure the eridium farming isn't great, but once you know about the spot in Voracious Canopy it's not terrible at all. Even with the anointments that got cut, farming the item you wanted, with the right element and the right modifiers was tough enough only to finally get one but it had a vh specific anointment for a character you weren't even using. Rerolling made farming much more pleasant in my opinion.
I wish gearbox would make a patch/hotfix where switching mayhem levels counts as “save and quit”. Would be especially useful on old gen consoles. I would farm a boss and just toggle between mayhem 10 and 11 with only one loading screen between each kill rather than two
Fire in the broken den. on my iron god Moze which is my Dhal allegiance while farming Evil Lilith I got a 405 million damage hit and I was using mind sweeper class mod which is doing nothing for the Soulrender so I could have had way more with Green monster or Blast master.
Playing Zane pre-buff was only for people who were tough. When everyone else was maining FL4K and Amara, us tough guys were struggling with Zane. Well tough or dumb, I like to think we were tougher than everyone else.
The busted buff to iron bear as a minion was wild when it dropped. Iron cub would just one shot every thing in site. Another crazy buff was The Lob and Krakatoa

Ah Number 1. I still remember the combo of the deathless + Bloodletter, entering/exiting Iron Bear to trigger anointments, the spamming of grenades to heal the shield. Moze deserves the life on god mode.
Been into BL3 again lately after a 3 year hiatus and wow to Moze. I have a Hive that gives 200% extra damage to the machine guns on the Iron bear while equipped and that paired with the skill to make 2 of the same gun do extra damage, I went into the Ruiner (first time experiencing this DLC) and wrecked him in like 10 seconds on Mayhem 11, lvl72. Iron bear is the most broken thing I think I've ever seen in a Borderlands game
