What an Amazing F 9-R !! you all ROCK ! Great colors choice ! Congratulations on the weight of 1800 kg ! The spirit of IF lives !
Thank you! You are obviously an "insider" in these boats ;-)
I’m a builder, a carpenter a woodworker who owns my own remodeling business and does custom woodworking projects in my spare time, and this is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING what you guys have accomplished!!!! Bravo!!!!!
Many, many thanks! Please like and share ;-)
Lovely boat and lovely job building it. As someone currently building a 6.5m Scarab 650 in pvc/epoxy sandwich I can fully appreciate how much work that was - main hull on the trailer, now onto beams and floats. Splash next summer downunder for me. Can’t wait!
Hope you are in the water now Robin! Multihulls rule...
@@sailingtrimaranlightness just fitting the second float. Standing rigging and deck fittings going on. Should be launching in 4-6 weeks. She’s looking very nice. I’ll be doing a few YT videos of the build when she’s afloat. Subscribe to my channel if you’re interested. I have a couple of videos on that of a previous small boat I built. I’m so looking forward to sailing a tri. The only multihulls I’ve ever sailed are hobi’s as a teenager. Cheers
I have the plans for the 32 footer from the same designer
Just gotta sell my mono and I will start. My second build from Kendrick Design..Good luck mate.
A work of art that floats and sails like the wind. Kudos to the hard work and vision. Ian Farrier would have been smiling .Cheers
Thank you very much for the compliments Ed! I appreciate it a lot :-)
Great job guys. I bought the plans to build the F9A. But i never got around to doing it. Now that i am older and have rebuilt several houses from top to bottom...i no longer have that need to do a project as big as what you have done so achingly beautiful. Wow a labor of love. I bet you are just in the puppy heaven.
Thank you Alan for your compliments! Indeed we are very happy and attract a lot of attention. Maybe it is one of the most beuatiful Farriers around ;-)
Alan any chance you would be willing to part with those plans?
@@tonydugan8655 I have unused plans for a Farrier F32AX if you’re still interested.
Top notch work. Absolutely beautiful.
Thank you Mathew! I appreciate your compliments! Check out the brand new video of our 1st offshore race!
All the work paid off, you ended up with a beautiful boat.
Thanks for the music credits
Thank you very much for your appreciation!
Dear Friends. From Paraguay I want to send you my sincere congratulations on the construction of your trimaran.
In the images I could see the attentive dedication and enthusiasm that you have put into every detail of the work.
For some time I have been preparing to embark on the construction of a trimaran sailboat very similar to yours, and I hope to achieve a result as admirable as yours.!!
I have no choice but to send you a hug from afar, and with the hope that soon I can also enjoy the fruit of my work.
Greetings
Dear Martin Gutierrez! Thank you very, very much for your appreciated words about our trimaran. Indeed - beside hard work and sweat - we put a lot of passion into our project. It is nice to hear that you can see this in our picture show.
I wish you all th ebest for your project and would be glad to get some pictures of your trimaran.
Sailing this piece of art is worth every hour of work.
Best regards from Austria
Oh wow. Brilliant.😱👍👏
Thank you for sharing your adventures 😊
Thank you Ray. I hope to send a lot more but I am not confident in video cutting yet and I do not have a drone ;-)
Absolutely amazing. What a sweet looking boat.
Thank you! It is not only sweet but also really nice to sail!!! Some other vids will follow as I have more footage now which waits for being cut....
Very nice job, enjoy the future with this nice trimaran
Thank you Max! At the moment we are preparing for the races in the Adriatic Sea: La Duecento, La Cinquecento an the Thousand Islands Race 👍
Complimenti !!!! Siete stati bravissimi !!!
Mille Grazie Allessandro! At the moment we are preparing for the La Duecento and the La Cinquecento in Caorle 😉 www.cnsm.org

Great great great job !!! 👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you very, very much !
greetings from Indonesia, the Aru Islands, Maluku province on the Indonesian border with Australia
What a nice boat you have build.
Looks so good and i think its pretty fast in light winds
Sailing starts at 3 kts - sometimes we do one and a half of the windspeed ;-) Grinning all over the face!
Well done indeed. She's beautiful. Lovely lines. Enjoy her!!!
Thank you! We are happy that others also like our LIGHTNESS!
Congratulations to you and your family. Now enjoy 😊
Thank you Antoine! :-)
What a nice design of this boat i really like the trimaran for sailing in the ocean.
Thank you Celesdoc!
That's a lot of work, well done.
Thank you ZEUS O.! You obviously know what such a project means... ;-)
Incredible. Very, very nice work!
Thank you for the compliment!
Congrats and kudos on building your own boat. I wouldn't know how to begin building a boat.
Thank You David Ho!

Danke Ralph und bis zum nächsten Mal
Very good job, nice boat I like it so much. Enjoy!
Thabk you Max for your nice comment. I hope to upload new videos soon...
Absolut fantastisch! Ihr lebt mein Traum. 🙂
Eric, auch ich war von diesem Traum inspiriert und er durfte wahr werden. Unseren Blog findest Du unter: www.einfachmeer.segelnblogs.de und er heißt: Building a dream 😊
Highly impressed by your work.. how long did it take you to build this trimaran
Hi Ben, we worked about three and a half years on it. And thank you for the compliment! 😉
Brilliant!
Thank you Clive! 👍☺
Nice boat! Nice dog!
Thanks! I also love both of them ;-)
Super!

Magnifico proyecto! Saludos
Grazias!!!
Nice! Good job, thanks for sharing.
Not as big as Fram but it quite big enough for our workspace and energy ;-)
Impressive build.
thank you!
Awesome. Where are specifications and details? How can I find draws of this project?
Hello Rafa! This is a Farrier F-9R from the New Zeeland Designer Ian Farrier. You'll find the specifications at www.f-boat.com . A lot of intersting information from this genius which sadly passed away to early.
Thank you 👍👍👍
well done.
Thank you Rick!
1:27 Czy to czarne to włókno węglowe? Czy postępowałeś z nim tak samo jak z włóknem szklanym?
Yes, that black stuff is pure unidirectional carbon fiber which is also saturated with epoxy resin. The correct direction of the fibers is very important.
Wow. That's a sexy sailboat. Awesome.
Thank You! That's really true. I've a lot of fun sailing this vessel.... ;-)
@@sailingtrimaranlightness what are the full specifications of this? Is the build process documented somewhere? I'm trying to formulate my own plans for a future trimaran build. Also was this hand layup or vacuum bagged or vacuum infused technique?
@@allmomomosthomebus3895 you can find a documentary at www.einfachmeer.segelnblogs.de
Thanks!
those thin amas can sink and the flat upper shape can keep them sunk for lateral capsize or forward or reverse pitchpole
i suppose todays amas with plenty of freeboard make less likely lateral capsize by acting as a buoyant wall
The floats are neither thin, nor is their surface flat ;-)
But you're right, if you overdo it, you can knock over a multihull. Perhaps you could research how many capsizes with a Farrier design have been documented so far. There are not many. All the best!
Hi,it can be done without plywood?only fiberglass? in the beams there is also wood ore inside are empty? Greetings from Italy
Hi Marco, the boat is built in positive with a DuraKore core and glassed with fiber and epoxy. This is for the main hull and the floats. The beams are made of PVC foam and a lot of carbon ;-) DuraKore is an amazing wood compound for a one off composite build - light and amazingly stiff. You can find a lot of information in the web. Greetings to Italy. Hope to race there this year ;-)
42. Nice design ....wonderfull 👍👍
Thank you for the compliments!
Quanto tempo ci avete impiegato ?
Hi Alessandro even if I don't understand Italian I suppose you want to know, how fast we did go so far. It has been 18.5 kts yet but the boat can do more. I am still learning and a little bit careful 😉
Beauty trimarane!
Thank you Serhiy!
@@sailingtrimaranlightness What's your speed record so far?
@@Serhiy34 18.5 kts but I am still really carefull. If you push hard 25+ kts is possible for sure ;-)
@@sailingtrimaranlightness Rocket!
How much is the cost
The investment has been around 100k $ .... and 4 very demanding years ;-)

Thank you very much for your comment!
What I see in the fit and finish of your functional piece of art is a large quantity of used up sand paper !!!! Lmao !
Grind on people .....
You are right Walter! Lots of sanding and failring. But as you mentioned: a piece of art ;-)
Looks like the fridge is working.
❤
Thank You!
Is that Kimi Raikkonen @01:13 ?
No, it's me 😄
Fabulous boat and video. Dying for some information, though. Is that a Farrier design? Where did y'all learn such lovely fiberglass skills? Where and when did you learn to sail? What inspired you to do this? And so on...
Hello Terry! Sorry for the late response but I had been sailing ;-) A lot of new vids which now wait for being cutted. Yes, it is a Farrier design - a F-9A which is equipped with the R-rig so it is a F-9AR. You can find me on facebook Sailing Trimaran Lightness and on the web page www.einfachmeer.segelnblogs.de. If you are interested we can meet us in messenger or via email. Looking forward to this contact. Best regards
Where did you get the plans, I’d like to do one in aluminum
This is a Farrier Design -> www.f-boat.com But as far as I know they stopped selling plans :-(
Awesome boat, you must have hella confidence in that resin being a 0erfect batch along with the plywood..
Personally the laminated plywood method.of construction does not give me much confidence...maybe for protected bays and rivers....or for a dinghy
Awesome construction anyway
Hello JCBs At the Helm! Thank you for your comment! Most of the boat is not plywood. The core is from Duracore - a balsa teak combination of 13 mm. The stressed parts are the beams and the hull section between the beams. Beams are made from foam with a lot of carbon fiber ;-) But you are right, the inner parts, where the the beams meet is made from ply also. Ian Farrier had been a genius. Never saw construction in this perfection before. In no situation had any doubt of the construction an stress loads yet. 2.600 miles sailed - sometimes in rough conditions but there are no vids :-I
I owned a WEST System Seaclipper 28 trimaran for years. We did multi day, open ocean trips and encountered 50 to 60kt winds at times. It was no more hair raising then most other vessels. Better than some. While my boat was a bit more stout than this one, I'd wager that if you were to inspect Lightness and sail it in brisk conditions, you may have a different opinion!
In my point of view the construction in combination with the material gives a quite sturdy boat. I do not know of any Farrier breaking - beside the one which was outfitted with massive foils without beeing reinforced at the right spot...
Wonderful, 😍👍🙏
Thank You!
I am indonesia
She's so perdy!
Yesss, she is ;-)
The clip said "sailing trimaran" pity the title lied, didn't see any sailing
You should have watched further. Sailing starts at 7:53 when the building is complete ;-) And the other videoes of sailing trimaran LIGHTNESS are all about sailing... enjoy!
