Almost $80K in 2018... my son just picked up a well maintained 2020 S90 T8 R Design with 54K miles for $32K. 3 years and 46K still left on the Hybrid system factory warranty. Thing is a very well-built ROCKET for Earth travel. He's 6'-5" tall and wanted a car that comfortably seats people even behind HIM as the driver. Even HE is comfortable behind himself, and he's all legs! My wife and I love this car. I drive a Lexus GS 350 F-Sport, and this Volvo is now the nicest car in our family by a longshot! Smooth, silent, FAST, comfortable and efficient. Love it!
I would only lease this vehicle because of its complexity and the likelihood of it becoming a money pit off warranty. However, I must say that Volvo is killing it design wise.

I considered this as well. Super charged + turbo charged + air suspension = money pit. Ended up going with a Panamera in the end anyway.

I would definitely compare new V90 to Audi a6 and bmw 5 series in the 2 liter models. The quality build is really good and the entertainment area in volvo is just as good but cheaper and in my Experience more reliable. I drive bmw my self though never owned a volvo but Im swedish so I have been able to drive a lot of them. :)
Never in your life compare a Audi and a BMW with a Volvo. Volvo is way beyond both those shitty car companies.
SimonM wait a minute. German cars are probably the best, we can't say shit over them. Volvo now is really a new brand, at the same level with germans, but probably they are again the reference for everyone. I speak you as a volvo lover.
But BMW is a really awesome car company. Does a lot for the technology advancement.
Motoman, weird about the infotainment. I test drove a few V90s and didn't see that slow boot time.
Why are people saying this car should be priced lesser than what it retails for when its competition offers far less standard features? Cabin is right up there with the best in class and the design is elegant. Some people just want something different, now I may not be one of those people because a bigger engine just sounds better but I can see why (and the Swedes are not too big on noise anyway, even though Volvo 5 potters sound great. Volvo saved my life, my sister's life and my dad's in an accident. The 3 guys that crashed into us are all lying in a grave being consumed by worms in their coffins (sorry for being graphic). its only in the 90s that Volvo made really fast cars so in essence they have gone back to their roots. These are not slow or underpowered cars even now mind you. I'm a car nerd and have bought Autotrader since I was 10 ( no idea why, just loved looking at them hence dealers don't f%$k me over in prices). My point is, Volvo has never lied about their identity ( even under Ford) and are not now. The reality of the automotive industry is that buyers buy what's in now and this cool person has that car so I want it too. If this car was 70K, I bet my last penny Volvo would still not sell more units because of a badge snobbery mentality. Volvo has brought much more to this industry than just safety, seat design and comfort has been on point since forever. Loud speaker stereo system with an optional upgrade was in Volvos even before S-Class Mercs gave you that option. Pop up navigation screens, etc. They feel they need to go this direction because the other players are far bigger and to a certain extent are also heading in the same direction. (No more V10 in an M5, no more V8 in an M3, those days are over)As car fans we should be thankful that we can still hear the sound of something burning underneath the hood because one day it will all go wheeeeeeeeeeeeeew. And then there will be silence never heard before. Damn EVs. *forgive the long comment , just saying....

It's not because your "fancy dancy" Bosch charger is able to boost up to 23 miles of range instead of 21 miles of range as the manufacturer claims. It's 23 miles just because the way you drive. Next time, try to floor the acceleration pedal in the freeway and see if that "fancy dancy" Bosch can make it 23 miles again.

no matter what hybrid car, the electric components have been very reliable. There's actually less maintenance on an electric/hybrid car. People get so wrapped up in a potential battery replacement, but that is actually very rare.
In connection to the infotainment system, there have been updates which has now cured the start up issues. My s90 r design is playing my Bluetooth sounds within seconds of starting the car .... I hope this helps keeping your review up to date

I'm assuming this car has the same 15.9-gallon gas tank that the V90 has now, which is unfortunate -- meaning many more visits to gas stations. The 21- or 23-mile all-electric range is also disappointing. If I were considering $80k for this car, I think I'd pay the $20k more and go for the Panamera 4 E-Hybrid, with 21-gallon tank, 31-mile all-electric range, a much better computer screen, AWD, and much better handling.
Wha? 15.9 gallons seems like more than enough for something that gets MPGs in the upper 20's. I mean, you're getting at least 413 miles of range, and that's with the city rating, not including all-electric mode time. So it's probably going to be an even higher number in practice.
Also, the Porsche is probably going to start at $99,600, and that's a BASE model! FWIW I'd take the Porsche if money was no object... But it is.
The base Panamera 4 has a lot more in it than this loaded S90. If you do any long-distance driving, it will mean a lot more frequent gas-station stops for the S90. So again, if you can afford $80k for the S90 as tested, you ought to be able to afford the Pan 4 E-Hybrid...

A RWD S90? :s I mean I know Volvo has AWD in almost every model, by option or by standart but they have. But a RWD car? Did u mean the electric engine powers the rear wheels and the gasoline one powers the front wheels? So when u switch to the ev mode vehicle suddenly becaomes a rwd car right?

1-2 minutes to fully load the Infotainment system? That’s ridiculous. My 2019 Audi A6 takes 6-10 seconds to load the map sometimes and I thought that was long. Lol.

Was the Volvo T8 a 40 kWy battery and is now upgraded to a 65 kWh battery? I'm not so sure, I thought it was rather a 9,2 kWh that was upgraded to a 10.4 kWh battery

I think this was the L version they build for the Chinese market.
They (S90) will all be the longer car going forward I believe. Yes, designed for China market demand. (People who buy expensive cars in China want to sit in back and be driven.)

When a car is worth half ur estate, it isn't worth it
That smaller gas tank that you mention (only 12 gallons) is a real deal breaker. No car of this size has any excuse for such a small gas tank, meaning many more visits to gas stations. Volvo, wake up! Get it back up to 21 gallons! My other big dislike of this car is that the interior is too feminine; get rid of that silly crystal gear changer, make the on/off switch less corny, and put that absurd, finiky drive-mode roller dial as a switch directly on the steering wheel. The design of the vents is also too feminine. Volvo will lose a lot of male business with this design, including this three-decades-long Volvo driver.
The problem is, everyone knows that a hybrid with only 23 miles elecric range is just a stop-gap measure and that much longer range cars (as you indicated) are just around the corner. So what? Well who wants to be the chump who bought a 23 mile car when year later a >60 mile car comes along for the same price.
the electric range game is not really important on PHEVs. Sure everyone wants more range, but it really doesn't matter in the long run. I have a 2012 volt with a range between 38-44 best case scenario. I won't get a new volt even though thats higher around 50-60. Its not worth the trade in. Get what works for you and carry on.

The Polestar series and the Mission E series will blow Tesla out of the water.
Tesla is very poorly made compared to any vehicle. Don't trust me. Don't argue with me. Sit in new or 1 year old Tesla. Compare quality of material, how things are put together.
Volvo and German's three (BMS, MB and AUDI) will leave Tesla in dust in few years.

All electric is only practical if you stay close to home and drive locally. And in Sweden, you lose a lot of battery capacity in cold weather for all-electric vehicles. The real problem here is that it's a joke for any plug-in hybrid to only have 10-20 miles of electric-only range. To be realistic, one needs 50 miles of all-electric range to start with. In very cold weather, this S90 T8 sedan has more like 5-10 miles maximum of all-electric range only.

Cyril Matthew ok, so give some money to volvo for new projects. This is only the rebuilding of the brand, so new cars, new design ........ and they didn't have enough money to build a lot of engines. This 2.0 4 cyl is an engine that is good for all the cars, from v40 to xc90. Then in 2020, when they will cut off diesel engines, with the money from tha sales in the world, starting from 2014, they will develop and build new petrol engines, as v6 or v8 for polestar, 60 and 90 series and elettric engines for 40 and 60 series, and 60/90 series to make hybrid versions !
It is the “same shit” but this motor cranks. You should drive one. It’s not a sound befitting a 60k+ vehicle but it moves one as well as a V6 of the past would.
sad to say, but that's the direction the industry is going. Can't stop it. v6's becoming v4's, v8's becoming v6's, v10's becoming v8's.

You should understand technology/cars at least a little bit to be a reviewer, IMO.
