Cussing isn’t really the same in Japanese and English though. While there are words to convey the same tone as swearing in English, those words are different to the ones we have. Plus, words that are similar in meaning to English obscenities might not have that effect in Japanese. In the end it’s really up to the translator to determine what an appropriate localisation of a character’s style of speaking should be, and whether or not it would makes sense for a character to swear in any given instance.
