One of Guy’s best and one that gets overlooked in his catalogue of amazing work. I miss Guy.
This hits home. Man, Guy was great. We won't let him die, either.
Beautiful song, just him on the guitar together with that blessed violin player.
I get tears in my eyes as i listen and think about my grand parents and mother who came to this country in 1919. I can only imagine the emotions, but told so well by Guy
What a songwriter!
Relate to this song so deeply. When I saw my grandparents names in the wall on Ellis Island was so deeply moving. Trying to imagine their struggles coming to a new county with only what they had on their backs.
Thank you, Guy Clark. "Give us your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free".
If you can get through this gorgeous song without tears, you are dead inside.
Great - just discovered him
The Irish band, Girsa, do a lovely cover of this song. So glad it is being covered by young people.
Someone posted willie Nelson singing this song on FB. I googled it and read Guy Clark wrote it, who I never heard of, so here I am! I like this man’s voice and think he sings Immediately grant Eyes way better than Willie.
I see you didn't immediately grant your comment spell checking
Willie does an incredible job of this song❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Immigrant Eyes!
This was a more recent recording by Willie and probably not the best example of his voice, but he does it "his way" and makes it his own, which is what iconic performers like Willie tend to do. Beautiful and touching song and Guy Clark certainly owns it "his way".
@@TheFlintriemen LOL
All those people that want a wall need to listen to this song
Dead right mate.
This is a great song. I still want a wall.
Most likely his grandfather came here legally, There’s a difference! My great grandfather came here through Ellis island he didn’t jump over the border or over stay a visa! Don’t take a great heartfelt song and turn it into a political theme for illegal immigration, Guy Clark didn’t write this song for that purpose!
Immigrant eyes, not illegal immigrant eyes.
@@hogsandsooners 'the wall' is, and has always been a con ('finish the wall'? no new wall has been started!). also, there's no such thing as an 'illegal immigrant'.
God wrote a song.
Maybe a dumb question... is that Mark O'Connor on violin?
Stuart Duncan
Like a scene from a costume ball
Somebody should send a song to president trump
Every one on Ellis Island was immigrating legally.
Dead right Lonnie.
@@sealevelbear until they starting limiting entry to non white euro countries.
The song is about LEGAL IMMIGRANTS THRU ELLIS ISLAND NOT BY CLIMBING OVER A WALL OR UNDER IT ILLEGALLY, YOU DERANGED UNHINGED DEMS DUDS NEED TO OPEN YOUR EYES.
Agreed
Pay tribute to the man who wrote this song and it WAS NOT YOU
They came here legally.
Yeah and it was a hell of a lot more possible in those days to immigrate legally. Familiarize yourself with the actual politics and pragmatics of immigration before you spew shit like this.
Dana Anastasia > If you want the best opportunities for your family you do what you got to do. Unless you’re Native American your ancestors might have come here in an illegal way to, and not nearly as civil.
@@elbisnopserton9052 no - all my family was in North America when the country was founded. BTW the native Americans were immigrants too.
@@fire.tender Thank you for saying this. I couldn't have said it as well.
