Armenian Choreg with Margaret

    My name is Margaret and this is my choreg recipe.
    Here are the ingredients I used:
    8 whole eggs
    2 1/2 cups of sugar
    2 cups of milk
    1 tsp mastic gum
    1 tbsp mahelp
    pinch of salt
    2 sticks of butter (landa lakes)
    2 packages of yeast
    12-14 cups of flour (heckers flour)
    Recipe:
    1. Crack eggs into a large pot and then add sugar, milk, mahlep, mastic gum and mix until dissolved.
    2. Add flour (we used 14 cups), and mix until a doughy like consistency is achieved.
    3. Add 2 cups of yeast and melted butter.
    4. Allow dough to rise in a warm environment, this could take 6-8 hours.
    For the yeast:
    Add yeast to a 1/2 cup warm water with a 1/2 tsp of sugar.
    Once the dough has risen...
    5. Braid your choreg's and let them sit for an hour or two so they can rise one more time before baking.
    6. Place in preheated oven at 350F for 20-25 minutes.
