    Man, those portraits are impressive. Even the fluffed ones have a lot of meaning - the first one with the most messed up eyes still has a remarkably strong feeling to it. Having a version of someone, shattered, with the eyes somewhat blanked over really had a strong message, even if it's not an intended one.
    I wonder if you could make this sort of glass, laminate regular glass and an appropriate polymer coating. From what I've heard, safety glass of this style was something of an accidental invention - a chemist polymerized something, went to throw their ruined glassware away, and it didn't break when they chucked it in the bin. You'd want to be *very careful* with homemade safety class though. Be interesting if you could reapply a coating after making some art to make it stronger, though...

    Your 3 portraits are gorgeous! Although some of the outcomes may not match your original, internal vision, from out here they are compelling images. In some ways, they are more expressive and potentially meaningful than a more photo-accurate image would've been. They look particularly powerful displayed together. One or more compelling titles would go far in transforming your appreciation of them, I suspect.
    Try this exercise: Sit in front of the three, and focus on each one, one at a time. Adopt the mindset that the image in front of you is exactly the image you intended to make, to express a specific and profoundly meaningful idea or feeling, which you had encapsulated in the perfect title. But you've somehow forgotten what that idea and that title were. Sit looking quietly--both internally and externally quiet. Notice in detail all the qualities, including "inaccuracies" in each image, and appreciate their quirky beauty. Now, "recall" that this image was and is the perfect and quintessential embodiment of your original intention. "Remember" feeling a sense of mastery and accomplishment as you created it. Let yourself feel and believe these things as past, accomplished facts. Once you've fully evoked these feelings (and not before), focus intently on "remembering" the brilliant, apt title you had intended to give each work. Ask yourself, "Of what deeper idea is this image the most perfect expression?" This exercise may well require more than one sitting; but if you perform it with serious intention, and if you /let/ it work rather than trying to bludgeon it into working, it can transform your understanding and appreciation of your own art.

    Hello, do you know the artist Simon Berger? I'm studying his glass painting art. I used double-layer glass, but creating cracks in the glass requires a very strong force, but artist Simon Berger uses just enough force, not too strong, I don't know him. What type of glass to use and what work was done on the glass surface before to make it easier to hammer and create cracks? Looking forward to your help

    • @sam-beige
      @sam-beige  4 месяца назад

      I don’t know him personally, but yeah his artwork was how I got introduced to this art form! I know exactly what you’re talking about in terms of those challenges. The glass I used was also double-layered and it was 1/4in in total. I had the same issue of trying to break the glass and I there were two solutions I came up with. 1 - you can hit the glass really hard with the hammer to break it and weaken it, but you will be left with a bunch of cracks that will be unpredictable and probably a large spidering pattern where you hit it. Or 2 - I also got a tungsten drill bit to break the glass really precisely in key locations. I didn’t like the look of making it too precise (I wanted the somewhat chaotic look) but it helps you control where you want to weaken the glass to form more cracks. I hope that helps but it does take some additional experimentation and getting used to the feel of how much force to use

  • @Z-Ack
    @Z-Ack 7 месяцев назад

    You can laminate the glass yourself for cheap.. just use a clear vinyl wrap.. or clear window tint if you can find it. I found a roll on ebay once and got it for around 20$ for a 5’ x 50’.. it goes on crystal clear if you tint it right..

    • @sam-beige
      @sam-beige  4 месяца назад

      Thank you so much! That’s a great question, and I wish I knew the answer 😬 When I called a few local glass shops they told me they only had one type available which was I believe 1/4in thick. But I had no idea there were other types. If you have any specific questions I can try to answer them but sorry I know that isn’t very helpful!

    • @jithkumar0404

      @sam-beige  4 месяца назад

      Yeah, the thickness was 1/4in laminated safety glass. I haven’t tested other thicknesses, but I think the type of glass (laminated safety) and how you break it (try experimenting with something like a hammer and tungsten drill bit) is most important for getting it to not shatter or break completely. Hope that helps!
