A link to Data Jar and the Shortcuts I mentioned are in the description below.
Christopher Lawley Hey Chris thanks a lot but I have a problem with the clipboard when I copy from Apple Notes it doesn’t work with data jar. Do you have a solution ? Otherwise everything else works perfectly.
From a Corsican fan so sorry for my English
Would love to see more on how Data Jar can be used. Looks amazing, I am downloading it now.
Excellent video as always, thank you 😊
Great introduction, thank you! I loved your Productivity Tools video which gave me loads of ideas for my own. Currently looking for inspiration of how i can use Data Jar to improve my workflow, so would love to see another video of how you’ve implemented it.
Yes please, more of this app! I need to go play with it now lol
I have been using shortcuts for my own custom time-tracking with apple numbers app as the logging database. Very clunky. This Jar app seems to be a perfect replacement for it ❤️ thanks for the video man.
I’d love to learn more about Datajar, dictionaries, lists etc..... please make more great content 👏🏻
Super helpful video. Thanks!
Loving these super frequent uploads - so informative! Keep it up!!
This is amazing!! I would love to see a follow up to this
More more more videos please. Great channel. Thanks
More Data Jar videos? Yes please!
Great one Christopher! If you can make other videos with all the ideas you have for this app, like the one posted by Mr Nbla for time tracking it would be awesome.
Hi Christopher - thanks for the videos, do you possibly know if Apple Notes created by a shortcut can add headers, subheads and text in the shortcut to create a readable apple note?
I was shocked to find the Data Jar app was free when I went to download it. I was ready to part with my dollars to get such a useful app. Secondly I would really like to see more content relating to Data Jar and how to get the most out of it.
How do you do this using the dictionary function? This is super useful, but I’d like to keep it as native as possible
@chris I’ve been a long time follower, but ketchup on a hot dog! NFW mustard only! I growed (correct grammar) up in Chicago 🤣
More please!
My device is not compatible for Data Jar. Can I run the app in iOS 12?
Hey Chris, I get many ‘false’ items added to Data Jar whenever I use your clipboard manager shortcut. Any idea why this might be happening?
Just looking at this to try and further get into data jar, can you use the clipboard manager to copy certain multiple actions from a shortcut and put them in the clipboard manager for pasting afterwards? I’m managing to copy text but it would be so useful to copy shortcuts actions and put them in clipboard manager!
Also for the meal planning one, say for example I’ve put 7 meals in for each day of the week. Let’s say some have the same ingredients, is there a way for it to recognise this and instead of putting the item twice in different places to just do cheese x 2? Even better would there be a way to put a number value into it aswell? So for example one recipe needs 200 grams of cheese and the other one needs 100 grams, could it know how much cheese in total you need to buy for those 2 recipes?
How do you clear the clipboard manager?
Hello! Please help me set Boolean value to the key. Shortcut app just shows me file list.
I absolutely love this app but now I also need a simple interface creator tool. I can have some tallies in data jar, but if I don't have a great interface for it, and only have basic menus in Shortcuts for working with them, then I'm stuck making clunky things to interface with it. I DO absolutely want the ability to have Shortcuts manipulate the data though, since sometimes it's useful if I know the exact thing I'm wanting to do and don't want to open up the full blown interface.
So - any ideas on how I can make an interface for my data jars? The app's built in interface is great to initially create the format of the data and to sometimes browse it, but it's not a good one for working with tallies. I'd like something that I can basically make forms with or utilize existing iOS and MacOS field types, and make buttons, steppers, etc and have these things interface directly with data jar in real time. Maybe this app is yet to be built ... maybe I'll have to make it. I don't know. I just feel like this is an important next step in the evolution of automation and working with data for people who don't want to go all the way into full development mode.
I think data jar's file storage is simple JSON so any app that might interface with the data should be able to read and write to it in an easy enough fashion. It's just making the interface that's in question here. Too bad apple's own Freeform app doesn't have the capability to interface with external data like from a JSON file or from Numbers sheets. Airtable is a fantastic tool for working with structured data, but the service in its free form runs into limitations... plus it's all online...but they have great tools to make useful interfaces and new views. If only some tool similar to that existed for working with your own local data sources.
Great video! Have you thought about a shortcut that takes these meals from data jar and creates a text file (in drafts or other note app) with your meals for the week?
I did, but I wanted to keep it simple for the video. Maybe I’ll do a more complex one later.
@@ChrisLawley awesome!! You have taught me most of what I know with shortcuts and always appreciate seeing screenshots or videos of what you have built so I can copy or modify.
Thanks for your work, Christopher! Is there any shortcut to connect a Magic Mouse and a Magic Keyboard to an iPad? It would be super helpful! :)
No there isn’t, those can only be paired with one device.
Ouch! Thanks a million, Christopher. And congrats again for the channel :)
Please make a follow up video
I've wanted to do the reverse of this, I wanted the recipes to be a date and inside store some text inside those dates. I'm sure it's possible but shortcuts can be infuriating compared to just giving me a programming language
Edit: Forgot to say thanks for the video, this was cool AF to learn.
What about the onions with the hotdogs?
Hey Christopher, I have Kind of a complicated question: I invest in bitcoin and I like to keep track of it in a spreadsheet. Like when I invested how much at which course. Do you think its possible that every Time I bought bitcoin, I could run a shortcut that *automatically* pulls the details and then creates a new entry in my spreadsheet? So that I dont have to enter the specifics (amount of money I spent / date / course) everytime I run the shortcut? My bitcoin wallet is secured with FaceID, maybe the app doesn’t let dataJar / Siri shortcuts get the information? Would love to hear your thoughts on this, you are truly an inspiration, I would be so happy if I could only use my iPad a FRACTION as powerful as you use it. Please make another video about DataJar, it is an amazing tool!
feel like u didn’t share with us your real use-cases for the app or ur under-utilizing it
"I store my ssh key in it", that's not something I'd trust to store my ssh key in.
Thank god pineapple wasn't a 5th ingredient on your pizza list.

So basically a complicated way to demonstrate what a powerfull script app can do, but for the first one we have Yoink or Pasted, and the second one with a task manager of your choose.
Sounds very much like Python
6:29 you're leaking your Airtable API key
I changed it after I made this video. It was easier to do that so could show how this all worked.
