Great video with the entire process, too bad you didn't mention the colors indicated on the crankshaft concerning the bearings.
And thank you for this moment which relieved me 35:45
@@hashtagplaisir6104 Glad you enjoyed the video! If I recall correctly, this engine had “R” throughout all 6 cylinders. As for 35:45 i completely forgot we left that part in 🤣 -Mike
Check your cam ledges and if no nail catcher scratches update the seals with the updated one.
Quality work as always bro
Appreciate it!!
dope video same thing happed to me
@@ProductivityMotorWerks sucks that happened. Glad you liked the video!
Hi! i have the same issue on my 535xi N54, i will be taking the motor off the car (i just removed the subframe and oil pan to see the damaged) actually it was the rod bearing on cylinder 5 that was completely damaged all the other ones was really on good shape, the crankshaft had a little scratches on it on cylinder 5 so im thinking about rebuild the engine because even without rod bearings, i couldnt move the crankshaft from the crankshaft pulley, i just got the car with this issue in a very low price and good condition so i think that it will worth to rebuild the engine, does the motor that you worked on after the machine work run good again?
i really loved the quality on this video!! regards from mexico!
Glad you liked the video! When rebuilding the motor have it cleaned completely. Replace the oil pump, pickup tube, and all the lifters after a rod bearing failure. Be sure to check out the bearing ledges for hook ring damage as well while you’re in there. Along with that It sounds like your main bearings are seized too. You can polish or grind the crankshaft and line hone the block as well. You’ll just need to install larger bearings to fill the gap from machining -Mike
Would you recommend rebuilding it instead of replacing? Id imagine its the same price
Replacing is usually far less expensive. -Mike
@@bavhaustv9795 in labor or parts? I plan to do the build myself
@@gsgcarreviews depends how you want to go about it. A stock rebuild after a rod bearing failure normally should consist of, a new head gasket, cylinder head and block cleaning. Ultrasonic cleaning of every part, replace the oil pump, pickup tube, and lifters, and polishing/grinding of the crank and new main/rod bearings. It adds up fast. -Mike
Done
is a rod knock salvageable with a new crankshaft and rod bearings?
In some cases you can but it’s recommended to tear down, clean, and inspect every component. I’d say replace all the lifters at the very least as they have small passages that can be clogged with debris. -Mike
@@bavhaustv9795 thanks brother

@bavhaustv9795 thanks for the answer, been surfing the internet and finally caught a wave lmao
why would it have a starvation?
There’s plenty of factors that could have caused this but usually it’s infrequent oil changes and/or collapsed and/or incorrect filters
@@bavhaustv9795 for Young guys you have great skills and knowledge
Any suggestions as to what brand rod bearings are best for a N55 going into an E70 daily driver? I’m torn between OEM, King, and ACL. I might put a modest stg 1 tune on the car at a later date, but I’m just after what will offer me the best longevity.
They’re all fine kings are just the best bang for your buck. You don’t need coated bearings if your not racing hard enough to be taking the engine apart frequently imo -Mike
Is it the same engine that you made the rod bearing job earlier?
No this is a different engine entirely! -Mike
