  • Morialta Falls in the Northeast of Adelaide.
Adelaide has some absolutely beautiful mostly untouched parts of bushland here in amongst the urban sprawl. We’re lucky to have such access to these unspoiled landscapes where we can appreciate the untouched beauty and the rich diversity of the native plants and animals, especially the plants - I LOVE the Yakkas and the Grass Trees, they are so unique and awe inspiring, and there are some there that could be over 1000 years old.
Fun facts - did you know that the Grass Tree scientific name is Xanthorrhoea, comes from the Greek word xanthos, which means 'yellow or golden' and rhoea which means ‘flowing or to flow’ and refers to the yellow gum or resin that flows from the stem. Not very Australian, but that doesn't matter, the plant is iconically Australian!
In certain Aboriginal languages, it is called bukkup, baggup or kawee.
Also the flower stem is laden with nectar, which can be soaked in water to produce a sweet drink.
