      I actually didn’t agree with his reasoning on that one. While it is true that they will slowly get back to average stats if you just start randomly breeding from your two fastest horses. If you keep breeding whatever your two fastest horses are and ONLY the fastest babies you will get the perfect horse.

      there are a definitely a lot of perks and disadvantages to breeding your horses in minecraft. you are 100% correct in the trial and error part. I have spent part of my time in a minecraft server breeding horses together to get a good horse with decent health and jump, but my main goal was speed. it took a few months, a lot of golden carrots, and a lot of horses but I didn't mind the work because I love horses in general. eventually I managed to get what I was aiming for, though

    • @HandleDisliker
      @HandleDisliker 2 года назад

      Another way to explain the video's viewpoint is thus (if it doesn't work this way please correct me):
      Let's say we're only breeding horses for one stat and we start with two horses that are an exact 5 on a 1 (worst) to 10 (best) scale.
      The first baby has a 50% of being better than its parents. Let's say it ranks a 7. Nice. We now average the 7 with a 5 to get a 6. Now the next horse has a 40% of being better than its parents. There's a declining chance to get the best horse.
      By the time we breed enough horses to get a 9.9 of 10, the next horse will have to be in the 1% to even surpass its parents. That means a ton of horses to breed among the best for just one statistic. For a horse to be good at all three stats I think you have to take the number of horses you take and multiply it to the third power. That's quite a few.
      By contrast, flying via elytra tens-of-thousands of blocks to find (potentially) hundreds of horses is probably better. You don't have to breed them and wait for them, nor do you have horses out of the wazoo that you have to "take care of," nor do you have to worry about three statistics working against you. You need only fly, test, and take your version of the perfect horse and leave the rest.
      All this said, breeding horses actually sounds fun XD

    For any bedrock players, if you want a fast horse, splash 2 horses with a speed pot and breed. The game accounts for parent speed in bedrock and the potion speed effect actually carries over. Get multiple of those, rinse and repeat to get exponentially faster horses.

    • @cea6770
      @cea6770 3 года назад +6

      You still can. What Cub said is that on average, the offspring will be more average than the parents. If the parents are slower than average, the offspring will likely be faster. Also, even if they are fast, you can still get a randomly fast offspring, just with rapidly diminishing probability. Cub's statements should be preficed with if your goal is to get the fastest horse possible.

    This makes me think that by combining a passive mob farm with the idea of Gnembon's pathfinding based Blaze Farm and a tripwire/pressure plate based timing mechanism you could probably create a mob farm that sorts horses by speed.

    I've always be fascinated by horse in general, and minecraft made them even more interesting. One thing I found out about horses in minecraft is, if you breed a family of them. And continue to have more fouls. Soon making a family tree. The horses will soon start to naturally follow you or come out already tamed (though I believe the 2nd one is a glitch)

  • @Markezasdf
    @Markezasdf 3 года назад +2

    It took me quite some time to understand why horses and the like can't ride a boat, but can ride a minecart, that's because you can drop off the horse with activating rails, while you need to actually break the boat to free your horse, which you can't because the hitbox of the horse is larger and cover the entirely boat.

    Hm. I sort of disagree with the breeding advice. It's true that breeding random horses in general will regress to the mean, and so it doesn't make sense to breed the random horses you've got in order to improve your herd -- but if you collect some great horses as starter stock and only breed your very best ones, with a lot of breeding and some luck you will eventually have a herd of excellent horses. I think the chances of collecting an entire herd of excellent horses in the wild isn't as good (and takes a lot more running around instead of just breeding the ones you already have). But I still gotta watch Ilmango's undoubtedly very sciency video to see what he has to say about that. And of course few people want herds of excellent horses; they just want one really fast jumper, and for that the chances are probably just as good to run around the world and test random horses for stick and snow numbers. ;)
    I didn't know about the scaffolding trick; neat!

    • @abbyreid991
      @abbyreid991 3 года назад +1

      I agree with you! I’ve bred excellent horses to each other and produced herds of amazing horses without having them regress to lesser wild type stats. I’ve done this is multiple worlds including realms and made a very nice business out of it. I’ve even done the same with donkeys and mules. The parents have majority over the random horse stats so in my experience at least it is rare for already good horses to produce something lesser than themselves. They usually produce a foal that is either equal to themselves or a little bit better. It’s all in how you select your breeding partners and HOW you breed them. I guess I can’t speak for everyone but I agree with you based on my experience and am curious to see if other people share the same experience :)

    Frostwalker on your boots is essential, just get off and walk your horse across the river/sea.

    Great tips! Bubbles needs to watch, for sure!
    Just a couple vocabular words:
    Spotted horses = appaloosa.
    Splotchy horses = pinto
    Also, faster horses = higher raised tails when moving.

    For breeding them, it IS beneficial to breed them if you breed 2 horses, then breed the foal with its parents, IF it is faster than them, then repeat, only ever breeding your two fastest horses. (or jump, if that's what u want)

    Fun Fact: Horses don't take fall damage in minecraft bedrock

      Is that a bug or a feature?

    • @Hamza-qs6kh
      @Hamza-qs6kh 3 года назад

      @@Levi-xb5sz I think it's a feature since if u sit on a boat and sail of a high place while sitting in the boat u take no damage in minecraft java so maybe that's why horses don't take damage so it's fair for both versions

    Horses will revert to the mean from their fast parents… if you just breed them randomly. But thatʼs why you have to kill the slower ones too. Thereʼs a chance that the foal will be faster (or jump higher, my preferred attribute) than the parents, at which point you kill the slowest parent.

  • @JamesOfEarth

    Do horses need to be naked of armor and saddles to breed? Brought home two white horses and a donkey, feed them golden carrots, hearts appear, but no babies. Also, are saddles supposed to disappear when removed via inventory ui? Had two saddles vanish doing that so far. (I know this video is old and my chance of getting reply is slim, but who knows more about horses than cub?!
