Since making this video I've found more headstones for People connected to the Panacea Society, making a total of 21, and every year I lead a free guided walk in the cemetery so visitors can learn more (see fosterhillroadcemetery website for details). Apart from Jane Shaw's standard book on the Society, you might also be interested in my book, "Imagining Eden," available from the Panacea Museum in Newnham Road. All sales proceeds are given to Moggerhanger Hospice. Thank you for your kind comments.
Excellent and informative video. I visited Bedford thinking to see the Bunyan Museum, and instead discovered the Panacea Society's fascinating museum. Thanks for the potted history. I'll certainly take a stroll around the cemetery on my next visit.
Absolutely wonderful video. I have been fascinated by The Panacea Society for some time now, and thought there was nothing more to learn about them, but perhaps since the last member, Ruth Klein died, more is coming to light. There's lots of new information in this video that is extremely interesting.
They were harmless peaceful people happy in their own little world their paradise I respect them totally rip to everyone of their dear souls. Thank u for this lovely video
Lovely video - enhanced by the presenter's beautiful Bedfordshire burr. If you are able, get hold of "Octavia, Daughter of God" by Jane Shaw (Jonathan Cape, 2011). It is a most illuminating book - and it WAS stocked by Waterstone's in Bedford town centre.
Many thanks ... that sounds interesting! In non-Covid times, I carry out regular guided tours of the cemetery, and I am one of several people involved as guides round the Panacea Museum, . Perhaps you could e-mail me on adiebean@hotmail.com if you want to take this further. Adrian
