Best solution out there, I so badly didn’t want to have to return this powerful vacuum. Used a few rubber bands and it now glides perfectly. Thank you for sharing!
Great solution!! We just got the Dyson Animal 2 from Costco to replace our old DC 41 and was very disappointed to find that it was almost unmovable on thick carpet. Your simple solution saved the day! We ended up using zip-ties (only because I had them on hand). So far, they are working perfectly. Thanks so much for this - back to you Mike. 😂
Well, THAT couldn't have been easier. One o-ring on each of the two front tabs wasn't enough, but two on each of the front tabs and the small rings in back did the trick. I was ready to throw this Dyson-recommended machine into the trash. Simple 90-second fix. You're my latest hero!
Absolutely fantastic! My vacuum doesn’t keep stopping now as it has done since we bought it 6 months ago. All Dyson could suggest to fix the problem was to trade this in and spend another $800 on a stick vacuum! I had the rubber washers in my garage so no cost to fix the problem. That’s $800 saved. Thanks!
I am THRILLED to report that your "Carpet Fix" WORKED FABULOUSLY!!!! Thank you. Kind of hard to believe that the Animal 2 actually has TOO much suction for most carpets, but am grateful you found, and made available, a simple yet effective solution (took more time to unwind the cord to test it than it did to actually fix it!). Much better than the PVC pipe alternative I saw or the suggestion to put HOLES in the gasket!!
Thanks. Just got the vacuum and couldn’t believe that it had this issue out of the box after spending $500!!! We too were getting ready to return the vacuum until I saw this video and decided to give it a go. I didn’t have o-rings handy so I just used zip ties and it works perfectly. We have the Animal 2, BTW. There were ridiculous solutions like drilling holes in the vacuum (seriously!!!??) or having to get, cut and install a 1/2” PVC pipe. Not necessary!! I found this solution was the cheapest and quickest while NOT destroying the vacuum. Thanks again for posting.
Great solution. The real reason is hard to move is because some carpets have plastic backing that is sealed and does not allow air through. So obviously when you out a vacuum the air doesn’t move and instead it just sucks the carpet. If you have natural carpets ( wool with cotton backing ) then you will never have this issue.
I tried this solution Michael, however it did not worked on my new Dyson Origin. Instead I removed the black sealing gasket installed on the top part of the cleaner head and now the vacuum cleaner works like a charm. Removing the gasket creates a small gap between the top and the bottom parts of the cleaner head, sufficient to allow some air to pass through and to prevent the cleaner head to get stuck on the carpet. This also allows a free movement of the bottom part of the cleaner head so it will operate without restrictions, as originally intended. This seems to be an over-engineering error from Dyson that created a perfect vacuum chamber on the cleaner head, instead of a working vacuum cleaner.
I sourced the o-rings locally for 72 cents, but it didn't work. However, removing the black seal as you suggested did work. I believe why this solution works for some, and not others has to do with the carpet and padding they have installed. In my case, original you could push the vacuum effortlessly, then we got new carpet and padding. The new carpet was of a much higher quality with extra thick/plush padding. The vacuum creates so much suction it would barely move on the new carpet/padding. I did take the vacuum apart and realized I had originally installed the removable piece incorrectly (it's easy to do). The three tabs on the front of the removable piece must be inserted into the body of the vacuum. With the old carpet it didn't matter, but with the new new even when installed correctly it still created too much suction. So for others. 1. Make sure the removable piece is installed correctly. 2. Try the o-rings (they cost me 72 cents at a local hardware store) 3. Remove the thin black seal.
First time buying a dyson and first thing i noticed how strong it was but also quite annoying how the suction was so strong it would not move! I recall older better built vacuums use to have the levels for different carpet. Great solution. I can’t believe dyson doesn’t have a solution to this. Their help department was clueless.
Bought mine Animal 2 at costco 2 days ago---suction was too strong and dyson rep just told me today to return it, since the suction was too strong...solved with your gaskets~~
i purchased your products maybe 2 years ago after we had new thicker carpet installed and the vacuum became very difficult to push. Your product worked very well for maybe a 18 months then it did not work. I ordered a set of 4 maybe again, 4 to 6 months ago thinking the others wore out. Still does not work. Still hard to push. If you ever come up with a newer product for this problem please let me know. Mine is a dyson but I think it my be the cheaper model. It is called the Dyson Light Ball
Thanks a bunch for your review. I coupled your fix with the comment below to wrap a rubber band multiple times over each front peg and it fixed the high powered DC 41 that woldn't even move on carpet to now nice glide and clearly doing it's job. Now we have to decide which one we're keeping the DC25 or the DC41. Great reviw TY.
Thank you,, I watched so many videos knowing I'd find the right one, I was trying to hold the self adjuster apart to let the brush turn and it got worse. I was backwards. Thanks again
Hi Andy, here are the models that I researched: Carpet fix dyson model compatibility Dyson Ball Multifloor 2 Dyson Ball Animal 2 Total Clean Dyson Ball Animal 2 Dyson Ball Animal 2 Origin UP13 DC65 DC66 Dyson Light Ball Dyson Light Ball Animal Dyson Light Ball Origin Dyson Slim Ball Animal Dyson Slim Ball Multi Floor UP22 Dyson Cinetic Big Ball Dyson Cinetic Big Ball Animal Allergy The best way to determine if this will work for your vacuum is to check if your cleaner head is similar to mine in my video. As a comparison, the new Animal 3 has a different cleaner head, that doesn’t have the removable soleplate. Let me know if you have a question.
I tried your fix with the two O-rings and that did the job for high density carpet can't believe how much suction the vacuum has it's like I never vacuumed in years had a Kirby Deluxe that I thought was doing a really good job four times the amount of this one that I bought Dyson animal 2 origin thanks for the tip I knew it was something simple just a little bit over engineered but you wanted to suck that's bottom line right there it it does
Hi Jim, My solution may work for the original Multiple Floor model. I researched on the Dyson website for the Dyson Ball vacuum at www.dyson.com/spare-parts/vacuum-cleaners/uprights/ball. They can be but, I don’t remove them on hard floors. I like to think having them on reduces the “snow plow effect” because the front of the soleplate is lifted.

His solution works like a charm. Why didn't Dyson do it right in the first place?

Same thing happened to me! I’ll try the zip ties - I have those! Thanks for the idea!

What a great solution! You should make Dyson pay you royalties and have them sell it for you.

You should send this video to Dyson world HQ in the UK.
July 2024 Your fix was hard to find but your solution was brilliant. Dyson needs to have this as part of their advice.
This guy is a genius and saved me so much money! Thank you! 🙏

Simple and works perfectly! I was ready to send my new Dyson back until I tried your fix. Thank you very much!!!!
Thank you! This worked. I too was about to send the Dyson back because it was too hard to push.
Please tell me how to fix my dyson animal3 ball upright to recline
Why on earth should you have to rig a brand new $500 vaccum
What size O rings did you use for this fix?? Thank you!
Thank you,, I watched so many videos knowing I'd find the right one, I was trying to hold the self adjuster apart to let the brush turn and it got worse. I was backwards. Thanks again
Thanks! Worked like a charm! We were getting ready to return it to Costco!
Genius! Fixed the problem. Thank you!!
Your fix worked for me. I have the same vacuum as you. Thanks.

Works great finally had a use for the box of assorted o rings that were on the shelf in the garage
I had same problem and managed with hairbands and works perfectly fine. Thank you the the solution.
Great solution for our Dyson. Local shipping had it in 1 day and super simple installation! 😊
what size are these o rings?
our carpet is way to thick for this solution to work. i feel cutting the rubber gasket would be best

You are a genius - thank you SO much for sharing this!!!..was at my wits end & the zip ties work perfectly
We paid a premium for a Dyson and had the same problem. Our solution was returning it to Costco.
Saved my new vacuum!
Do you remove the orings when you want to vacuum hard flooring?
They can be but, I don’t remove them on hard floors. I like to think having them on reduces the “snow plow effect” because the front of the soleplate is lifted.
Thank you. Great solution. Simple and cheap fix.
Ours is a dyson light ball only will your o-rings worked on this?
Hi Ed, I’m not sure, but we can check the cleanerhead. contact at email info@michaelhartdesigns.com

As expensive this product is itself, the Dyson should have fixed this issue. Like really disappointing.
👍👍
Also check that the circular filter in the ball is correctly aligned. - made a huge difference on mine ruclips.net/video/g3a8Y6MsHAw/видео.html
