Frank Ocean had no support for his first couple of projects, which gave him the freedom to experiment and explore. Once his label realized how talented he was, they tried capitalizing off of him, which resulted in him scamming his label and breaking free from his contract. That’s why he has so much freedom to take his time crafting music.
Labels and corporations consistently mess with their artists work and discourage them from exploring. A more recent example would be Lil Yachty’s album “Let’s Start Here.” and the backstory behind the album cover being executives laughing at him for saying he wants to try and alternative sound.
Read between the lines and understand the subtext.
