I've got news for you. People will be playing and rediscovering Van Halen and enjoying and practicing the music long after all members of Van Halen, and you and I are gone from this planet.
This is a really impressive instructional video. The teacher is very clear, slow, and patient in his teaching, and somehow makes what some consider to be one of the best solos in rock history, sound like an intermediate level lesson. And after checking the website, I see that the entire 8 part lesson is only $5.99, which is an incredibly good deal. I'm sold.
William, I purchased your excellent "Eruption" Lesson over the weekend and am very pleased. The level of detail, your approach to instruction and your passion for the music is just right. These qualities translate into excellent instruction and a first rate experience for me as a guitar player interested in learning Eddie Van Halen's technique and music THANK YOU!
***** I've found in the first 50 seconds of the video (first 10 seconds of the song) 2 major mistakes, and a thing/question that I don't know if it's a "mistake" or not. Here goes the question: In the hammer-on-pull-off riff, you say you got to play 5th to 8th to 5th to OPEN in the B string, then 8th in the G, and again 5th to 8th... But I've always played this riff this way: Open E string, the 8th to 5th to 0 in the B string, then 8th in the G string, go back to open E, and so on. So, what do you think? I like it more if I play OPEN E string instead of 5th fret in the B string. Let me know what do you think. Anyways, I like the lesson, you explain it pretty well.
Bummer that I'm just seeing this post 5 years later. I know what you're talking about and I agree with you. I play it the same way. It's a lick he uses here, plus also I'm The One and Somebody Get Me Doctor but just up 2 frets in those songs. Also, an open string has a noticeable sound difference so to me that E is the open string. I am going to re-listen about hammering that blue note on the G string though....I've always picked it.
I really think you are a GREAT Van Halen guitar instructor, I would love to see more lessons on this style.. I just thought you should know how GREAT your playing is, Thanks for your time and dedication to this guitar hero...!! GREAT GUITAR by the way... You are the Man..!!
There’s a few guys on RUclips with how to videos for this , safe bet to assume the guy who took the time to make a replica, took the the time to learn to play it right
Great! You are very, very good and explain the way things are done correctly, in my opinion anyway. You have dialed Eddies sound in very well also. What kind of amp and effect are you using? Do use any reverb at all? Keep up the good work/video's...................Cheers!
I've been following you for years. I have purchased all your videos and you posted my review of your lessons on your webpage a while ago. I tried emailing you. we need you back!
SWEET LESSON MAN!!! If I could change one thing tho it would be not paying for your lesson cuz personally I have no money but I want to learn the whole song so that’s all I would change
This is great instruction, but what cracks me up is thinking about the person out there who's learning eruption and how to do pinch harmonics in the same day.
Excelent William5150... you are a real gold Master, Thanks very very much....one question please.....I am folower of EVH all my life and i need to know what effect you are using to get the EVH sound....it's the same that's fantastic...
Thanks very much William, before of your answer i discovered in youtube MXR Phase 90 EVH, is true that give an special VH sound, but what distortion you recommend to me?
Christian Mortenson How about a cranked Marshall JVM 410HJS? It works for me. If you are interested in a excellent Van Halen in a box check out the Wampler Pedals Pinnacle or Pinnacle Deluxe(you play it in front of your amp through the clean channel and it is magic.) Great pedals for the Brown sound. Don't forget the MXR EVH117 Flanger.
SaintFredrocks Thanks for your help, now i am looking Wampler Pedals Pinnacle or Pinnacle Deluxe, and i hear an very quality distorsion sound...greats!!!! that distorsion pedal really is magic....i like the Rocktron pedals too.
I noticed a different looking nut on the headstock of your guitar i dont know what its called but i heard it keeps the guitars in tune when using the whammy bar i can i get them for my fender strat or should i buy one of those guitars that have them?
They are called Floyd Roses. It depends on what you want to do; I'd recommend having someone set it up for you on your strat. There's no need in buying a whole new guitar. Just google the name, and tons of videos will pop-up to help you.
padawan007 You are right about the wood part but Kahler bars are not as stable as good Floyd Rose bridges, they get out of tune with this kind of playing .
+justbrandonll Get a guitar that was made with the floyd rose at the factory. It's the only way to get one properly set up. They do a million of them and throw out the parts that split or don't fit right, your hired luthier doesn't have that luxury. Strats and Les Pauls and even the korean PRS now come with floyd rose from the factory. If someone had installed a floyd rose other than the factory I wouldn't buy it.
where did you get the guitar??????? its a kramer 5150 and do you have a frankenstein?? im now 11 years old and for me this lesson is super cool!! thanks man now i can play eruption XD
It's incredible like this solo is alive after 40 years and so much covers.
I've got news for you. People will be playing and rediscovering Van Halen and enjoying and practicing the music long after all members of Van Halen, and you and I are gone from this planet.
@@ralphadamo1857 Lol
This band was ORIGINAL no clone of Zeppelin or Sabbath .
Rest In Peace.

🚬 🎸 😉
Rock In Peace EvH! 🕯
Geez. I talk about an uphill climb. This would take me forever to learn.
Wow, this is a really good lesson friend, you are a very good teacher. I could see this lesson being helpful for guitarists at multiple levels.
I already knew the solo, but you are a good teacher. Very Clear Explanation, and I picked up a few nuances I was playing wrong, so Thanks!

Yes you are correct. Pick open E hammer on the B string at 8, pull off to 5 and pick the G at 8 - and repeat
Wow best lesson ever on this song, will buy this later
ヘビメタギタリスト登場!🍒Good video!🤠🤠🤠

sick guitar, sick everything. thumbs up!
Excellent teaching!
One of the truest renditions and what a great teacher
Thank you for your time in showing this. Thumbs up!
I always thought the TAB showing the hammering on the B and G string and hitting the Open E (Cross String picking) was wrong. Yours sounds correct.
This guy is amazing!

Where is part 1 to all these lessons?
what amp are you using to get that very hard crunchy sound. It's nice and clean
This is great instruction, but what cracks me up is thinking about the person out there who's learning eruption and how to do pinch harmonics in the same day.
4:30, e on the b, then open e, then your pull offs
awesome!!!
Does anyone know how to go about getting this tone as far as amp settings?
Yeah, but can you play Back in Black?
Excelent William5150... you are a real gold Master, Thanks very very much....one question please.....I am folower of EVH all my life and i need to know what effect you are using to get the EVH sound....it's the same that's fantastic...

+Christian Mortenson Halen has been known to use a boss overdrive- os2
Overdrirve??? but the distorsion of EVH is heavy.
How did Van Halen go from this to OU812? OU812 is not bad, just very different from the Roth era
Amp changes, experimenting with pedals and different guitar, different singer, studio, engineer, producer etc...
Great!
Thanks
omg!! wht yu playing out of Bro!!!!
where is the part two?
What e should be tuned e high or e low
There’s no part 2 :(

what gear are you using for the amp and effects ???
Big deal...I can play "Mary had a little lamb"..like a beast, 🤣...fr you're awesome
what effects I will use to play this song?
Is that Ferris Beuler?
Whats Your Guitar ???
You spoke really fast at the beginning...what was your Garageband set up again?

Is it still on stock at EVH?
I noticed a different looking nut on the headstock of your guitar i dont know what its called but i heard it keeps the guitars in tune when using the whammy bar i can i get them for my fender strat or should i buy one of those guitars that have them?

Brandon Reyes or if you dont want to waste a huge piece of wood from the body, try Kahler bars.
padawan007 You are right about the wood part but Kahler bars are not as stable as good Floyd Rose bridges, they get out of tune with this kind of playing .
Yes this is also true!
