- Ed Kashi has spent 40 years on the edge of life, in some of the most deadly and polluted places in the world.
Committed to social justice and the power of images to transform opinions, he shares with us some of his most powerful photographs from Nigeria, Iraq and Nicaragua. He is a member of the prestigious Vii Photographic Agency.

In this series, VICE interviews photographers whose photos have become synonymous with important world events. The photographers relive the story behind the photos, telling their tales from the front line of battlefields and hospitals, and reflecting on their journey to becoming a photographer. We hear how they sought out to document the truth, even risking their lives, to provide proof of events that stay long after the memories fade.

There's so much pain in world. It makes my heart glad that there are people dedicated to telling these people's stories.
There's far more stories that are untold.
@@BobSacamano666 But that's life. Every individual story won't be told to a large audience.
We have forgotten to follow Jesus, thats why everything is collapsing
@@Norway6382 uh huh... is that why ethiopians (christians by the way) are fighting in the tigray war? and is that why the Russia-Ukraine war is still going on? most of them are christians mind you.
Religion and what people follow isn't related to real world events, grow up and acknowledge the fact that the world is changing, and your beliefs are becoming increasingly irrelevant.
it's astonishing how brainwashed morons like you still manage to have a presence in modern society, when scientific evidences disprove your god more and more.
what a useless statement
This is so touching and emotional. Thank you for bringing light on these human conditions. We need a bit more kindness in the world.
Amen
That picture of the girl with the umbrella is so touching, and the fact the umbrella has a Shell logo and they’re the main cause of all the destruction around her.
All parties are guilty of crimes, whether they are multinational oil companies or lowly oil pirates
It’s the local population that are suffering
The photo of the young girl in Nigeria walking over the oil pipelines? Wow 👏🏼👏🏼
While carrying a Shell umbrella.
The irony...
With a shell umbrella as well... Epic .. it seems almost staged but I tell you it's not that's the reality of these people , my people , they get trinkets from these multinationals who pretty much vandalize their ancestral land with the implicit permission of the Government....
@@ChiTownGuerrilla
Ooh I didn’t notice it was Shell!
I'd love to buy a print of that
Crazy how a picture can say so much more than any words
Harrowing and at the same time beautiful photos. I don't know why, but this combination is magnetic. Thank you for your work and thanks Vice for this while series.
Thank you so much for sharing these stories with the world! It’s reassuring to know that there are still journalists out there who have and show respect towards the people they’re photographing and reporting on! 😊
I already was already impressed by the honest investigative reporting done domestically by Vice but I really appreciate their international reporting as well. Thank you for your hard work Vice team.
the domestic side of Vice is so abhorrently bad that it is the main reason Vice is bankrupt and most likely shutting down. its astonishing that their domestic reporting and international reporting come from the same source, its a shame to all the excellent international work that the domestic side tarnished their brand to the point of dissolution because the type of work we see in this video is truly one of a kind in the modern era.
This had nothing to do with Vice! This guy is not from Vice. Vice is slightly altered US stereotype media unlike international foreign media with real journalist
Man…. First video I watched as I woke up. You realize how many blessings you have in this life. You also realize how many people are suffering. It’s touching in many ways. Left me wanting to do better & be a better person.
I’ve always enjoyed taking pictures and I finally got a proper camera last week and stated taking pictures I’m really happy with, so much better than my iPhone. All of these pictures are so beautiful and I admire his skill in photography.
Amazing. The title is not representative of the entire video but just wow. Fantastic, stellar, superb. Thanks so much for this, Mr Kashi. From Iraq to Nigeria, Nicaragua and around the world may the Heavens bless us all and protect us from suffering 💕🩵⭐💜🤲💎🥂
Appreciated your statement related to having respect for those you photograph.
Kudos to you and all fellow journalist that mentor others in this way. It is so imperative we have respect for others and humbly show compassion with fellow humanity. Not only avoid being a robot, taking pictures, but not to hide behind the camera like it’s a shield. See this far too often recently, when bystanders are trying to capture shootings, etc. on cell phones.
It’s admirable you stand up and step in taking action respectfully to assist and not just capture the shot. Those are some intense times shared in this video! Wow
Do you know history?
These Developing News stories are my favourite videos on RUclips. I am such a fan, they are so beautiful.
Greed has destroyed this planet! This country and event the human race!
The ppl on top are soo greedy with perversion. The true sickos.
I mean who truly owns the land? The country probably. In what country would you get profit of a private company and a government making a deal?
The real issue is why the goverment cant provide for these people
@@TheCameltotem I don’t think we should look to them for anything but higher taxes, me and you aren’t priority!
capitalism is pure evil
@@TheCameltotem if you're talking about Nigeria then the answer is both the govt and people are lazy and corrupted.
Thank you for you amazing work and for the help you give to those people !
Really love the photo journalism you got going on, Vice News.
Shut up margaret.
Heartbreaking. Why am I able to live comfortably when such suffering is occurring everywhere?
Go join them.
@@dietyadjacent3200 joining them won’t change anything, just like finding comfort and stability won’t change anything.
Because you're not willing to change your lifestyle and quit consuming at an unessarry rate and find alternives that don't come at great cost to others?
im in canada and i am suffering....it is everywhere sadly
Fargo season 1 got a good take on this when Officer Gus Grimly ask the Jewish fellow I think he's a Rabbi what can he do to help it's a really great story
Thank you sir for all your difficult dangerous work, blessings in all you do 💛
All of us take our things for granted, the fact that we can even sit here and watch this video shows how much privileged we are, sure everyone are facing their own problems and issues, but some other's problems and issues are far worse.
As a Nigerian, the major issues we are facing is most of our govt officials are just wicked.
...and they're just a true reflection of your wicked society.
@@pietrojenkins6901 this also is true, an average Nigerian is wicked
Unfortunately if you look around the entire world, corrupt government is the cause of almost every issue globally, that and religion.
@@pietrojenkins6901speaking of wicked societies, here in the US we don’t help our veterans and let them commit suicide, become addicts, and let them be homeless.
Wagner would the end conflict, The US will just prolong the conflict, because for US it's not about winning but prolonging, the flow of weapons and orders 4 it's military industrial complex. Once US leaves , things will improve.
My nigerian brothers..keep on❤👊
Awesome story...I feel like I 'm there...Heart wrenching...such a telling story... I'm in awe
Thank you for bringing light to Nicaragua the poverty and political corruption is rarely reported on
Fav series❤ incredible people
These videos are like annotations on humanity. Thanx.
Namir Noor-Eldeen was an Iraqi war photographer for Reuters. He and his assistant, Saeed Chmagh, weren't as lucky when helicopter gunships saw them.
The amies want you to forget about this.
@@edrickhuge4637 A lot of younger people have never seen the Collateral Murder video and don't know the risk he is talking about at 07:00 . The U.S. covered up the murder of Noor-Eldeen and nobody knows how many journalist killings like that are covered up.
Wow Vice News always seems to amaze me ever since I first started watching in 2015 I bid vice news longevity and if you haven't yet contributed to this media outlet I assure you they are the real deal and deserve it the most hands down. My respects is conveyed in its highest fashion with paramount love for your stories and true efforts in keeping the wise up to date thank you for this video and many more! May god bless!
Same. Love yalls unbiased investigative reporting.
Vice to me you guys are number one I can't think of a channel like you guys keep it up
Beautiful work 👏
So sad my people are going through this everyday
This is so heartbreaking 💔
this is the VICE we know and love ...REAL AND UNCUT
Now you know why Nigerians are leaving their country for greener pastures, their government is 😢😢😢😢
Then why do they act as if their homeland isn’t a shithole. They have ZERO humility.
What’s going on here is why “Pirates” are pirates… they’re looking for their fair share of what’s coming from their land.
Gracias por compartir esta historia, siempre es interesante y te cambia la vida cuando te enteras de cosas diferentes que ocurren en otras partes del mundo.
Nigeria has everything
Sorry to hear Vice to be discontinued. Wasn't an avid watcher/subscriber but seen a fair few. Always gave them a thumbs-up.
I really appreciated watching this candid and touching piece the humanity in your voice had me contemplating things I never imagined.
With the shell umbrella dam thats messed up
Greed is making sure nobody gets out alive
The fact that media shows how this people are creating obstacles for others (cash gaints/rich people mining minerals) but in reality they're just protecting their own land
What a great journalist and interview!
Thank you for your work sir!! Very nice pictures
The moment you feel like your life isn't really going on well....vice developing news brings us what's really on the other side where people of your age die on every fking day. so painful.
Bravo to the conflict Journalist.
Powerful photos
We need more journalists like this
Love his work 😍😍
The things Ed (the guy in the video) is explaining and the story he is telling is insane to think about. It's a shame that some people have to live like that because of the greed of companies and people have for oil. Is there a VICE episode of what this guy is explaining? Or was he a independent journalist at the time when he went to these places? I'm sure theres got to be more photos and videos from the time Ed was over there.
Real question is how long these conditions will remain unchanged, how long will it take for people to wake up and start addressing the root of the problem?
So long as people get money in their pockets never
Honestly if earth it's self manifested and demanded them to green or die
They would still demand how they will profit from this
This guy had pictures from 06 if it didn’t change by now it’s not
Good for them it’s awful that they have to do it but more people should ❤❤ stay strong Nigeria ❤❤
Absolutely beautiful pictures
What has the world and people come to....
It is so incredibly sad and just WRONG that for the sake of our candy, cakes and coffee people are dying.

Pirates good guys, government bad guys... cool story bro
I've talked a lot of trash on creepy photographers that exploit people's willingness to trust them in taking their pictures as well as those that genuinely just disregard humanity and feign somekind of care as though they actually did something by profiting from the photography, sharing a story, and moving on.
I appreciate having actually done something beyond that, and actually taking pictures with real meaning behind them. Actual value to what those pictures contain. Not just monetary value in what you can pull from western hearts. 🥂 Bravo.
I'm Nigerian pls pray for us a lots going on guys!!!

Amazing work
Being a "bullet magnet" in Baghdad must be some type of divine rank as well. Surreal journalism.
Can someone tell me what camera he uses, presumably the one by his left hand.
Respect
The Shell umbrella is a nice touch
Misleading title. All interesting but where’s the actual story?
There were like 6 stories
More articles like this probably would've kept Vice out of bankruptcy.
Your balls have to he huge to be riding around on the HIGHWAY OF DEATH in Iraq in a non-armoured civilian small car during WAR time. Kudos to Ed for being a beast and staying alive out there during a full scale war. I couldnt imagine getting shot at and jumping out of the car too run into a ditch and lay down looking straight up to see a Cobra Attack Helicopter above you unleashing its firepower not to far from you. Kudos to these reporters, without them a lot of these amazing photos and videos would not be out there for us to watch and understand how bad war is.
Thanks Morgan Freemans Brother for this intense footage!
This is the only reason I follow vice.
Is the story Ed is telling a specific episode of VICE? Would love to watch the video of him being over in Nigeria. VICE needs to do more episodes like this where it shows things that the world needs to see rather then making videos about gender identity issues and all the other bullshit they have been doing these past couple years. I haven't watched VICE in a long time but if they make more episodes like Ed is talking about here, I will definitely be watching.
Still so much pain in this World !!
If anyone wants more info, an excellent roundtable was done by In the Know With Clifford Banes.

wowo 3:39 is amazing
2:24 how does a guy have a American M240 machine gun in the middle of nowhere?
Does anyone know what disease he is talking about in nicaragua?
That boy rubbimg his dads feet hit hard i was that boy rubbing my mums feet she died of cancar when i was about his age
What camera does he use?
I really liked it but about half of it does not mention Nigeria or involve the pirates and the info about them was not too detailed or in depth
Vice please don't give up on us
Such journalism is very rsre this days unfortunately in the pundit age we live in
Blame China
You have no idea how lucky you are.
If we viewers who really like raw and real jornalism we need to keep vice alive and legit as it always been. We all know theres no journalism comparable with what vice brought to us and their reporters are real super humans who travel overseas to the most dangerous places. Its sad to know vice is about to go bankcrupcy. There should be a way to contribute monthly
If they dropped their absolutely despicable domestic reporting they probably could find an investor to keep the brand alive but unfortunately, their name has been tarnished from years of shameless garbage that brings down the international journalism with it.

The last to stop the Slaving Day, now Nigeria’s got to pay
It's sad enough that they destroy the environment, but the locals getting none of the profits, on top of that, is really disgusting.
And then the starvation and disease and death. This has got to really take its toll on you.
This is easily one of the dumbest comments I’ve ever read. I mean the lack of naïveté on your part is unbelievable. Why the hell with the locals get the profits? Has the world EVER worked that way? Human beings are not far off from the rest of the animal, kingdom, with groups, conquering, vanquishing, and robbing from each other. Cut a virtue signaling nonsense because it’s not a good luck. Just shows how bereft of common sense you are.
Amazing stories. I'm crying in my safe home..
