Best DIY mask video! Simple, affordable, and so important that it can be made without having to go out to buy supplies in order to make it. Thank you for taking the time to share your great idea, and clear instructions!
A busy mom takes the time to share a way to help you stay safe when you have no sewing skills and limited resources and you’re critiquing her presentation!? There are no words. I am extremely grateful for this woman’s generosity, kind words, and gentle instructions. Thank you! I have what I need to give this a go and will do so. May you and your family stay healthy and safe.
Who was critiquing her? Well regardless, I agree-this is the best video I’ve seen to facilitate the making of your own face masks! I’ve looked on Amazon to order more (after ordering some for family members) and they no longer have them in stock. Thank you Sarah this is amazing! Best Wishes from California ❤️🙏🏼
I really think she is the type of person to let the negative words she reads go right out of her head. I really don't think we are critical of her work it's brilliant but others have suggestions as well. It takes a village, no need for scolding all ideas were great everyone. Thank you for watching.
This is such a great idea! It took about 10 minutes to make. I love it. This is such a great pattern for the requests of really comfortable masks. I tried it with elastic for the ears and it works but the ties from the t-shirt are softer and more comfortable. Just slide the knot to the edges of the bottom of the mask. I have requests for knitted and or t-shirt fabric but I was sewing them on the machine. This is so much faster and looks great. I put the holes closer to the edge and made more holes closer together. And for smaller faces, I reduced the fabric size to eight and a half inches across the face and 7 inches down the sides, as well as cutting the strips half an inch wide so they curl into thin comfortable straps around the ears. Thank you for this wonderful pattern that can be fitted to all different sizes of faces, you're a star!
I love you ! I’ve been sewing by hand . . . Need to get that sewing machine. I was putting it off until this summer. 266 dislikes? Are you guys kidding? This is an AWESOME idea! She’s just trying to help us out. EVERYBODY needs these because “ I am wearing it to protect you, and you’re wearing it to protect me.! “That’s not my quote, but it resonates for me. Great video! Thank you. 🤩
oi812NM oh thank you so much for your kindness!! Yes, no one wants to wear a mask, but just like you said, I wear mine to protect you and you wear yours to protect me. Thank you!! 🙏💕
I just made my first mask thanks to your video . It is by no means perfect but I love what you said “ protection not perfection “ ! You are such a sweet inspiration to me and my hubby. Being folks of a certain age and with underlying conditions we are blessed with children that help us to be able to stay home. I am going to keep making masks and will even try sewing one now and be able to donate . Stay safe and God Bless❤️
Oh, your kindness just made my day! Thank you! If you have the materials and ability, the sewn masks are a relatively easy project. Please let me know if I can help. Stay safe 💕
This overwhelmed mask-maker says THANK YOU! I've had orders for several dozen masks from my community (maybe because I'm not charging for them - just trying to use up old quilting fabric - or maybe because so many people don't know how to sew and/or don't have machines; one friend had been making masks until her machine gave out, so she ordered from me). Regardless of why they're relying on me, I have felt burdened because I simply can't keep up with the demand and end every day exhausted. I'm going to share this with the people who've been waiting for me to get their masks done. Even their kids can help make these. To repeat: THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!
@@QueenMomMe, once I had to start buying supplies (ribbon and ready-made bias tape because making my own bias tape takes way too long), I started charging $1 per mask. But I still can't keep up! Thanks for the kind words. Right back atcha, friend. We ARE all in this together. :)
Suzy Taylor Oakley my replies were erased when I moved to a new account. But I really wanted to reply to you again. Thank you so much for sewing masks. It is tiring and boring cutting and sewing the same thing over and over. And it never seems as though I have made enough. Be gentle with yourself, please. You are doing an amazing thing that not everyone can do. You deserve praise and rest. I made this video for exactly the reason you are sharing it. So many friends and acquaintances in need of masks and just so little time. I thought maybe I could share this video with my local moms Facebook group and help a few people... 😊 Thank you for your commitment to our greater community. Still sending love and hope. ❤️
@@QueenMomMe A couple of people have told me they sewed until their sewing machines wore out or broke, and one mom said her hand-sewn mask was a "nope - never again," LOL. So I told her I'd make her a few, and I also sent her this video. She replied with, "Hey, that's a couple of masks you don't need to make!" She has plenty of T-shirts for her son to have handmade masks. So THANKS! You saved me again!

Thank you. Just so you’ll know. The side strings after they are cut stretch them out and they will curl into a small tube. Easier to weave into mask and loop the ear or tie around the head. You really did an very nice and easy mask. Again thank you. Stay safe
This is the frist one i have seen that alot of families can afford to do an would most likely have the tees to do ind t with! I know so many families whom just can't afford all of the other stuff to even make mask! This was the perfect ideal for so many of them! So thank you for sharing this ideal! LivenLifeforGod West exactly!! Thank you! I sew a lot, so I have the fancy sewing ruler and mat and scissors and a nice (though very old) machine. But I know most people don’t have that. I tried really hard to just use things most people might have. 🙏 Peace to you!
Thank you so much for making this tutorial. I just made 5 masks for my family. My (almost) 66 year old mother is going to be handing out computers to school students tomorrow and she needs as much protection as she can get. I’m anxious that she needs to do this but I’m glad I was able to help give her some protection.
God Bless Your Heart And Soul And Those In Your Life And Everyone Everywhere. ...This is by far the best easiest mask to be made. As a guy with countless old t-shirts still in good shape, but yet not, I can take a few and make this mask. T-shirt, paper, scissors. Yea. We all have that stuff. ...Thank you for giving us the means to create the answers to our needs.
As a essential personnel and on the front lines we are being told to reuse our masks for a whole 24 hr shift and I guess thats fine but when off shift I still want to be protected without wearing the type of mask that I’ve been wearing for the last 24hrs. This is absolutely the best video I’ve seen in regards to masks. I have tons of old concert tshirts (that I may have or have not grown out of....they must’ve been sized wrong). Thank you so much and please keep your family and yourself safe and healthy.
You did an excellent job teaching us how to make these masks using only household items! Thank you for this! I have made enough for my family and close friends.
Just discovered this tutorial and made a face mask for when I return to work. I had a tee shirt I got in Cozumel years ago with a beautiful underwater scene on the front. It made an awesome mask. Thank you so much for doing this video.
I really like the sleeve masks the best... they're automatically two layers... you don't have to cut the fabric to slide the strings into the sides and you can slip in a filter in between the layers and it stays put.
I have a wide face and I've tried to make DIY masks with socks, with no success, and I've brutalized one old T-shirt, however, after following your instructions, I now have a protective mask that's not perfect, but it fits great. The 8.5 sheet of paper did the trick. Thank you so much for your help!
I wasn’t looking at your finger nails until you said something lol. They look fine to me. I have been watching videos after videos and yours is the best for me to understand! I have to make 6 of these for my family! Thank you! I appreciate you!
Sarah!! This by far is the absolute best no sew mask I've seen. As a nurse we just don't have enough and this is perfect Thank you so much. You are a super mom!!!
Honestly I have a sewing machine and everything else but I will still make these for myself. Of all the tutorials this is the easiest. On a separate note, your son was so cute and made me laugh when I heard him in the middle of your video. That would have totally happened to me if I had kids of my own. 😆
Yours is the first video I have seen like this! Thank you! I don't have a sewing machine, and can't sew very well even if I can do a backstitch. Love this idea!
Yes! The research showed that the most effective household filtering material was a vacuum bag, but no one could breathe through it. So then down the list a bit a poly-cotton blend, but also hard to breathe through. Evidently the best crossroads between filter and breathing is 100% cotton pillowcases and t-shirts. smartairfilters.com/en/blog/best-materials-make-diy-face-mask-virus/
Thank you so much for this video. I do not sow and I am (out of the country) without needle and thread. I was looking for a way to make a no-sew mask and this is it! I am going to make some for me and my daughter. Thank you so much. Great idea!
Thank you so much for this video. I tried wearing the N95 mask and found out I'm allergic to them. I got itchy and very red. I will go try this right now. You really helped me out with the no sew fact. I am a terrible sewer. Stay safe and God bless.
I just made me one. It looks awesome, the only different thing I did was to use one of those twist tie looking things(maybe it is a twist-tie) from one of those throw away mask, so my nose can be better protected. Thanks for sharing this. I used a red t-shirt also, with a decoration on it, similar to yours.
I am so happy seeing this video!!! I ordered some just yesterday (same cloth masks not even cotton) and here goes simple and non expensive DIY mask (no sewing). Thank you and will definitely make it. Best out of all DIY masks seen...😁
Thank you! Yes, you can definitely do this. There’s a follow-up video that includes some ideas from commenters and help if it doesn’t fit exactly right: ruclips.net/video/dx-6D2qIiMw/видео.html
Wow. That is do-able. Thank you for the clear directions. I was wondering about my antique t-shirt collection, because it is pretty clear I won't be making a quilt with them. But masks. Yes.
Thank you! OH my GOSH I just made 3 of these in under 20 minutes. Thank you so much, Sarah. Here's my two cents of your 1,000,000,098 😃😜 1- I found the perfect "size" tshirt; men's 2XLT 50-52 will make 3 masks from the bottom hem alone. (Using your handy dandy 8x11.5" paper guide) 2- I struggled to get that "point" of the cut you make the slits with... and then I realized, if I fold the short edge of the doubled over tshirt, cut a sliver. As long as I just make sure not to cut as far as the fold and voila! These were the first time I have tried to make any of the DIY masks. I was fortunate (never thought I'd dare say this) that I had a box and a half of the surgical isolation masks leftover from when my Mama passed almost 10 years ago. I am, my son is [he also has a bottomless pit snack stomach🙃🙄😂], my father is, my sisters are (and only my daughter "isn't") immunocompromised. I cannot thank you enough. In fact, I think it's taken me longer to write this comment than it took to make 1 mask. Stay safe, wash (y)OUR hands and Namaste🙏
Thank you so much for your thoughts! Love all of your ideas! Yes, I’m so lucky my household right now isn’t immunocompromised, but we stay home, wear our masks, vaccinate, and wash our hands to try to protect those who are!! Stay safe. Have a great day.
It has been debunked about using vacuum cleaner bags as Hoover said they are made ONLY for their purpose because of fiberglass! No vaccum bag is safe! So, if, you want to get lung cancer with shards of fine fiberglass, go ahead, but using vacuum bags is NOT THE WAY TO GO!
Mercury Thunder please don't say things you are uninformed about. Hoover is the one of the few that still uses fiberglass in their HEPA bags, most use a poly fiber. Check with the manufacturer first. But don't tell people none are safe.
It's well over a month ago that I saw your video and yes, I was able to make myself a mask using an old T shirt, and it's been great. So great, that I made more and got better at it each time. Thanks so much.
I want to thank everyone for all of their kind words, suggestions, and blessings. You make a big world seem like one community. We really are all in this together. Thank you 🙏 I also want to say that the comments sections of my videos is not the place for conspiracy theories, name calling, hoaxes, or dangerous rants. You’ll notice, if you scroll through, I do not remove comments, good or bad. But fair warning: those kinds of comments will be removed. We’re all just awesomely normal people here, trying to make the best of a bad situation together. Thanks again! Stay home when you can. Wear you masks when you can’t. Stay safe ❤️
Sis,I'm not looking at and don't care about your fingernails! I'm too busy appreciating your creativity and generosity in sharing!! Thank you and God bless!!💙💕
Boom!!! I am super happy I ran across your video!! I have tried the mask with the bandana and the bands on each end, but I don't like it gapping and coming a loose. It works, I find myself pinning too many spots. I was wrecking my brain today on these cotton dish towels....so thank you, yours is perfect
Thank you for uploading this. I'm making several for family members. I love your statement, "protection not perfection." Looks perfect to me. I'll be tying it behind my head 'cause of my glasses. Keeps me from constantly pushing them up. We're in week three also of our stay home orders. All the best to you and your family. PS, I love how you responded to your daughter. Reminded me of my mom, when you said "honey." Now, I'm a caree to her. She just gave me a nice compliment. I felt like a little girl again. 😁 "A mother's love is like no other, They bring us into this world protecting and shielding us from many pains; Then one day we may have to become their eyes."
Thank you for contributing during these trying times. I got a little more precise and did 9 inches by 7 inches and did holes down each side about every inch until I had 7 holes on each side. Did the strands at half inch like another comment recommended and it came out super legit. Thanks for your wonderful idea.
Carol Benavidez look for another tutorial with 🧦 socks it’s more easy and stretchy and cute....I just did mine and stretch really confortable.in my opinion it’s easy and cute.
There are a lot of these videos and yours looked easy. I gave it a shot with a tie-dye shirt. Works great and I put some extra filter between the two layers. Thank you :)
THANK YOU for this! I have shared this vid with all my friends. I can’t sew and didn’t know how I was going to make a mask - you saved the day for me! So grateful here in New Jersey!
@@QueenMomMe a tip would be to keep some kind of meal routine. I continue to prep snacks like my kids are still going to school. The same applies to homework time. I have been keeping a reward system that somewhat works so far to motivate my kids to do homework. #staysafe&healthy
QueenMomMe Thank you for responding! You did a great job! It looks good. Also I’m happy to see how you made it smaller! Thank you again. Stay Safe!!👍🏼💙
This is the best one I have found so far, am going to make a couple tomorrow. Hopefully they come out as nice, as the one you made. Thank you for making this video.
Thank you. This method with a white 100% cotton undershirt ( Costco's Kirkland brand our very thick) allows me to get 2 mask from the shirt since I don't have to cut around a design. I used to convert my old under shirts into cleaning rags, now they are masks.
Thank you! I assume a lot of people don’t have hair bands. I have two daughters too. I know I buy them, we use them, but then they just sort of disappear... like socks 😄❤️
That looks so cool and real easy... My daughter and I are definitely going to try it... A nice arts and craft project... And I love the "Protection Not Perfection" quote 😍
This is an amazing idea for us that can’t sew 🧵 I’m blind from basically one eye and about 75% of the other and you can just imagine me with a needle is a no no .. I’m tired of the surgical masks 🎭 I have to wear at my dyalisis treatments it will be good to have cute and comfortable ones for once thank you for sharing 🙏🏻❤️💚🧡💙💜💛🖤♥️
I watched this, made one with a little alteration such as, I sewed the raw edges together to clean them up and then turned it inside out. And I think it looks better. Also I left a small opening to put a paper towel inside for extra added protection. Then when I threaded the ties through the holes, I used a safety pin to pull them through and that made it so easy. This is a quick and easy method.
Someone said it would have been nice if we could see you try the mask on. Now that I have finished watching the video, I agree. I will say that is certainly a nice easy way to make a mask. I have loads of cotton T shirts. I will get busy tomorrow for sure. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you! I agree! I made a follow-up video to answer questions and include suggestions from commenters, including showing how it fits: ruclips.net/video/dx-6D2qIiMw/видео.html
Thank you! I've been trying to find a way to make a mask (no sew) but still be able to breath because I'm asthmatic. Just made one. Requirement for work starting this week.
You are such a nice person to make this video. It will be a challenge for me despite your good instructions. My state is requiring masks in stores. Online order of masks will take too long to arrive.
This was awesome and very easy to follow! I had been looking for a true no-sewing video all day and this was it. My only critique would be to specify how long the strips of the shirt should be for the ties. Mine came out great. It is protective (not perfect) and will put me at ease when I have to leave my home for necessities. I wish news stations would promote this video! Thank you! Wishing you and your family a very safe and sane quarantine! :)

The life of a mom is providing snacks 24/7. Haha that was cute. Thank you for showing us how to make these.
Have seen many tutorials for mask making , no sew and I can say this one is the easiest ever, thanks.
thank you!
This is brilliant. I made masks out of the sleeves and now I can use the rest of the shirt for these. So easy and still effective. Thanks for sharing😁
I really like the sleeve masks the best... they're automatically two layers... you don't have to cut the fabric to slide the strings into the sides and you can slip in a filter in between the layers and it stays put.
stringhacker5 I love this! Glad it worked!
That's great! Glad it's helpful!
I love your saying, "Remember-protection not perfection !!!" Great video, stay safe.
faithfully yours Thank you so much! 🙏
Great idea! I used a safety pin on the end of the ties to quickly weave it through the holes before knotting.
Paula Petrey great idea!
I have a wide face and I've tried to make DIY masks with socks, with no success, and I've brutalized one old T-shirt, however, after following your instructions, I now have a protective mask that's not perfect, but it fits great. The 8.5 sheet of paper did the trick. Thank you so much for your help!
Melissa S I’m so glad this worked for you, too! Thank you so much
I wasn’t looking at your finger nails until you said something lol. They look fine to me.
I have been watching videos after videos and yours is the best for me to understand! I have to make 6 of these for my family! Thank you! I appreciate you!
Sarah Suemnig this is helpful thank you! I had so much fun making this with my 8 year old!
@@QueenMomMe kv5ggfgg bb
Anastasia K Thank you so much! I’m so glad it was helpful. That’s all I wanted it to be 💕
Sarah!! This by far is the absolute best no sew mask I've seen. As a nurse we just don't have enough and this is perfect
Thank you so much. You are a super mom!!!
🤗
I just want to add that slipping a filter between the layers is easy and stays in place.
What kind of filter?
Terde! Whatever filter you choose to use. A lot of people don’t use filters but for those that do, it slips between the layers.
@@terde9651 apparently a paper towel is surprisingly good at trapping the virus droplets
You can use coffee filters too
@@terde9651 An oil filter works best.
Best mask video I have seen....looks easy many thanks. Remember people stay 6 feet away from others, wash your hands and masks. Stay safe.
Yes, thank you!
Thank you for sharing. This is the most do-able mask I’ve seen for us non-sewing non-crafty people 😊
Thank you so much! I really hope it worked for you!
Wow this is the best one I have seen so far. Thank you.
Thank you!
Honestly I have a sewing machine and everything else but I will still make these for myself. Of all the tutorials this is the easiest.
On a separate note, your son was so cute and made me laugh when I heard him in the middle of your video. That would have totally happened to me if I had kids of my own. 😆
You are so kind! Thank you!
Would it even be a true quarantine video without the kiddo asking for a snack in the background? Lol mine ask all day.
I love it's so real.
lol
Kaysha904 right?! Do they eat this often at school? 😂
Yours is the first video I have seen like this! Thank you! I don't have a sewing machine, and can't sew very well even if I can do a backstitch. Love this idea!
Tamara Mink Thank you so much! ❤️
Thank you! This is the best no-sew mask I've seen!
Thank you!
Great tutorial. Just read that a poly-cotton blend is actually more effective when it comes to filtering safely than all cotton. Thanks for sharing!
Yes! The research showed that the most effective household filtering material was a vacuum bag, but no one could breathe through it. So then down the list a bit a poly-cotton blend, but also hard to breathe through. Evidently the best crossroads between filter and breathing is 100% cotton pillowcases and t-shirts.

Thank you so much for this video. I do not sow and I am (out of the country) without needle and thread. I was looking for a way to make a no-sew mask and this is it! I am going to make some for me and my daughter. Thank you so much. Great idea!
Thank you! I hope it worked well for you!
Thank you so much for this video. I tried wearing the N95 mask and found out I'm allergic to them. I got itchy and very red. I will go try this right now. You really helped me out with the no sew fact. I am a terrible sewer. Stay safe and God bless.
Oh no! I'm so glad this is working better for you. 🙏
Thank you for the great DIY video! It was very, very helpful and your instructions were very clear.😄👍🏼👏🏻👌🏻
Thank you so much!
Nice work! I love the twist tie modification!
It would be nice to see a picture of you wearing the mask to see how it fits.
Yes!! I wanted to see how it fits on please!
Yeah at least try it on
Barb Link. I just wanted to see her.
Yes, I should have done that! I’m new 😊 I made a follow-up: ruclips.net/video/dx-6D2qIiMw/видео.html
Wow. That is do-able. Thank you for the clear directions. I was wondering about my antique t-shirt collection, because it is pretty clear I won't be making a quilt with them. But masks. Yes.
May I suggest to attach a safety pin at the end of the ties to make it easier to insert into the holes.
💪🏾💪🏾very helpful tip
Yes! I made a follow-up and included your idea! Thank you! ruclips.net/video/dx-6D2qIiMw/видео.html
you read my mind !!
Thank you! OH my GOSH I just made 3 of these in under 20 minutes. Thank you so much, Sarah. Here's my two cents of your 1,000,000,098 😃😜
1- I found the perfect "size" tshirt; men's 2XLT 50-52 will make 3 masks from the bottom hem alone. (Using your handy dandy 8x11.5" paper guide)
2- I struggled to get that "point" of the cut you make the slits with... and then I realized, if I fold the short edge of the doubled over tshirt, cut a sliver.
Followed this and slipped a rectangular piece of vacuum cleaner bag in between the fabric. Thank you so much for your inspiration and fashion sense.
Wonderful idea, thanks!
🤔🤔🤔fantastic idea!! Thanks!!!
Yes and you can also slip even a coffee filter behind the fabric too :)
Jim Asaph great to hear!! Thanks!
I want to thank everyone for all of their kind words, suggestions, and blessings. You make a big world seem like one community. We really are all in this together. Thank you 🙏
I also want to say that the comments sections of my videos is not the place for conspiracy theories, name calling, hoaxes, or dangerous rants.

Boom!!! I am super happy I ran across your video!! I have tried the mask with the bandana and the bands on each end, but I don't like it gapping and coming a loose. It works, I find myself pinning too many spots. I was wrecking my brain today on these cotton dish towels....so thank you, yours is perfect
Thank you so much! Same. I couldn't find one that worked well for me, so I made my own 😄
Thank you for uploading this. 😁

Thank you for contributing during these trying times. I got a little more precise and did 9 inches by 7 inches and did holes down each side about every inch until I had 7 holes on each side. Did the strands at half inch like another comment recommended and it came out super legit. Thanks for your wonderful idea.
yes! Perfect variation! Love it!
I'm not a seamstress so trying to sew those pleated little masks has been frustrating and exhausting. Thanks so much for this cool idea!
Ditto.👍🏾
Carol Benavidez look for another tutorial with 🧦 socks it’s more easy and stretchy and cute....I just did mine and stretch really confortable.in my opinion it’s easy and cute.
Carol Benavidez RIght? Sewing pleats is not as easy as it looks 🤗

THANKS for sharing a simple way to make a mask. I will have to give it a try! Stay safe, and bless you for what you do!
@@QueenMomMe just made 2 yesterday while watching a movie. Thanks for sharing a simple effective way to make face masks. 😷🤗

Oh thank you so much! You're so kind!
Perfect for those who don't have a sewing machine. Thanks for this. Great idea.
Thank you so much!

:)) Love the "Mom, can you make me a snack" interlude! There are just some things a mask can't protect us from...like constantly hungry kids!
:D
That would be me with my kids while on an important phone call due to quarantine 🤙😷
@@QueenMomMe a tip would be to keep some kind of meal routine. I continue to prep snacks like my kids are still going to school. The same applies to homework time. I have been keeping a reward system that somewhat works so far to motivate my kids to do homework. #staysafe&healthy

thanks! You can do this!!
wow your method is so very cute, i like how it gathered. i did not think you were going to get that material thru those little snips tho. Bravo
Magic 😉 Thanks so much!
Thank you. This method with a white 100% cotton undershirt ( Costco's Kirkland brand our very thick) allows me to get 2 mask from the shirt since I don't have to cut around a design. I used to convert my old under shirts into cleaning rags, now they are masks.
Exactly. Thank you.
Thanks... i tried this...**also fabric glued bottom and inserted a filter for extra protection🤗🤗thanks again

Best mask video I’ve seen. Thanks!
Wow, thank you!
Dont throw your sleeves away. Double them up and can be used for a mask. Also can use them one at a time for hair scarf!!!
I did just that, doubled 2 sleeves from old blouse I made skirt out of, added ties. I had a thick mask for going shopping in.
YES! Tshirt sleeves make great hair scarves - then your mask matches your hair! :-)

Debbie Tanton absolutely! I’ve got plans for the whole shirt!
This was the best and easy way to make masks, thank you! You can even put a filter in between the 2 layers. Thanks!

Thank you for sharing your easy to follow instructions. I love it!
thank you!
Great ideas!

Thank you so much! Checking in... how are you doing through all of this?
