Mazda 2 G75 has 75 HP at 3600 rpm - and then constantly from 3600 up to 6000. The power curve is "trimmed". So - it is easy possible to "tune" it up to original 90 HP. This engine is not similar to other 75 HP engines. It has great torque and "trimmed power curve" ;)
It is same like Mazda 3 engine G120 - it has 120 HP - but from 4000 rpm !!! (I have Mazda 3 G120 and it is GREAT and enough powerful car)

According to Dynos, Mazda 3 G-120 has 140 hp. Mazda has underrated the car.

This Mazda is an absolute disaster! A 37-year-old Opel Kadett 1.3 LS with the same power (75 PS) but much less torque (101 Nm vs 135 Nm) and less valves (8V vs 16V) can achieve 176 km/h (real speed measured by precise instrument) which would be around 180 - 185 km/h on the speedo!
This Mazda could only manage 175 km/h (based on the Speedo) which is around 170 km/h GPS.

      Do you know "aerodynamics"?
Power and top speed are very closely related, of course with similar aerodynamics and transmission losses, you'll get similar top speed.
This particular engine is actually quite well suited for road use, because it is no different* from its high power variant until almost 4k rpm, which is more than what you'll use about 99.99% of the time. The old 5MT gearbox could have shorter ratios, though, but then, the 6MT is 100% fine... on road, still (on track, 20% shorter differential ratio would be better**, for the 113BHP to align with the ~200kph top speed, but it's not its purpose anyway and then you should look at road legal speed limit, declivity and maximum power at the corresponding revs : taking all this into account, this 6MT is perfect)
      * Or barely different, I remember reading something about a simpler exhaust collector on the 75BHP version.
** Or even less, depending on the track, because you may never or exceptionnally reach top speed anyway with such an insane horsepower.

@@jmc8583 Shorter final drive ratio doesn't mean higher top speed, it means higher elasticity in gears (better in-gear acceleration). To increase top speed, gears should be a little taller not shorter. However, there is a limit to this and every car reaches its maximum speed in a particular setup.
If this car has been developed with economy in mind, that's the same story with the old Kadett as well. I compared an ancient economy car with a modern one to show the differences.
I doubt Mazda has aerodynamic problems. Even if it has, it is not justifiable for a much newer car.
By the way, take Mazda output numbers with a grain of salt. As you know, Mazda 3 also has different variations:
      Skyactiv-G 120
      Skyactiv-G 165
      Skyactiv-X 180
According to Mazda, the base 2.0L model only has 120 PS but dyno results done by a Spanish magazine (Autopista) revealed that Skyactiv-G 120 actually develops something around 140 PS!!
I think this also applies to Mazda 2 and that 75 PS number could be more like 80 - 85 PS.
