    Just amazing what you two have managed to accomplish so quickly. We live in North Texas with long hot summers and winters that can be very unpredictable. I’m not sure what we can actually grow quickly, it would depend on the time of year I think. We did plant eight fruit trees this spring according to the Ellen White method. We are growing potatoes in bags and tomatoes in a raised bed and a few other vegetables. We are learning as we go. My God continue to bless you as we get nearer and nearer to the end!👑

      I'm of your same faith and do embrace your ideology, it's amazing that what you're advertising is similar ideas I am embarking on to develop my country living farm, I wish more of our people can buy in to what you are promoting. May God continue to enlarge His people who are adhering to His teaching.

    This is great information for fast-tracking our food growing. We're in a humid subtropical zone, but I think a lot of these would grow well here also. Thank you both for sharing your knowledge and experience with us all.

      Awesome. Growing them under a roof eave and close to the exterior wall of a building can help them survive in moderately cold environments. Some varieties are more cold tolerant than others. Wish you all the best!

    I’m in a suburban area on Oahu, small garden (mostly raised bed and pots) and growing papaya (still in big pots, but ready to go in the ground), dwarf banana, and a lot of sweet potatos (garnet and purple Okinawan) and various greens/herbs. I will definitely plant a moringa tree and some Malabar spinach. I’m very concerned about food security in our state, and particularly this island. We had huge success with baby Bok choy in the past too.
    I also grow basil, perpetual spinach, okra and eggplant which thrive in my area. Amaranth grows as a weed in my area too. I would love to grow lilikoi but it would probably take over my tiny garden.

      Hello. Appreciate your comment. Happy to share. You’ve got quite a bit of helpful info on your channel too. A large catalog really. Fruit growing is one of the primary positives of living in the tropics. Hundreds of varieties of fruits (though most people here only know a few). In this video we focus on ones that fruit in the shortest time possible. God bless.

    been following your vlog always and really believed that self sufficiency through country living is the answer to life's hardship and healthy lifestyle these days.been dreaming to be in it longtime. where in particular in the big island are you in? and can you give me an insight on how much to own a piece of land there? thank you so much for your videos, very inspiring.

    • @AlohaCountryLiving
      @AlohaCountryLiving  2 года назад +1

      Hello Romulo. We appreciate the comment and happy you've been following our journey. Personally, we recommend the north east half of the island...though there are suitable places elsewhere. The costs can be all over the place, but currently, they are very high (starting at over a million dollars for acreage w/ a home in this region). Hopefully these prices will become more affordable in time, but you never know.

    Aloha guys!
    HELP US, our biggest concern is community and connection. It seems so big and spread out. Do you have any input on this topic?
    We have such a great Church family here on Kauai and would be sad to leave but we see changing times and values that homesteading would provide.
    Also, any other pointers about Big Island?
    My pregnant wife and I live on Kauai where I was born. We are seriously considering moving to the Big Island for the cheaper land prices and opportunities to live more sustainably. Were settled on some where between Hilo and Waimea.
    Thanks so much!

    The cassava root is not the only harvest you can get from cassava. The young leaves are perfectly edible. Taro need a little bit of care specially if you are using the stalks and leaves. It contains calcium oxalate which will make your mouth itch. Par boiling it in water leaches most of the compound. Drying the leaves works too.

    Great video! Enjoyed seeing the food that grows so fast on this island. Will they grow as fast if we are in more of the rain forest area, say near Volcano?

    • @AlohaCountryLiving
      @AlohaCountryLiving  Год назад +1

      Hi Joan. Thanks for writing. Higher elevations like volcano are a different environment. Many things will grow, but not everything. Generally, to grow the widest variety it’s recommended to buy land under 1,000 ft elevation. But plenty will grow at higher elevation, however I wouldn’t personally choose that due to a number of factors including less sunshine, increased rainfall, and some varieties of fruit not doing well there. Google Earth (desktop version) is a helpful tool to find the elevations.
