Hanuman ji is marut gana ( Vedic god ) companian of Indra in Vedas marut help Indra to conquer over vritra and vala ( bad danavas )
This is why Hanuman dhwaja was put in chariot of Arjuna ( Indra's son )
While marut are worshiper of visnu in vedas ( worshipper of ram in Ramayan)
In vedas indra and marut came with conflict
Because Maruts gana as half danavas ( they in Vedas known as danu maruts ) ,and I don't remember they Vedic story once indra attack Marut with vajra ( Hanuman mean one who's jaw is broken by vajra )

Valmiki tried to make Hanuman human form of marut not monkey but tulsidas failed to understand character of marut/ Hanuman

Vanar ka ek aur arth ho sakta hai…jiska arth hoga “athawa nar” matlab ki Hanuman ji jungle me rehne wali tribe se to the par wo almost normal nar jaise hi hain.
The Begining -
The long story short version behind this is …
One day, King Ravana the greatest devotee of Shiva , gets a thought “ My mahadev, my lord should forever stay with me in Lanka. So, I will go and request Shiva and for sure , He will come with me. Anyways , Shiva can never say No to me, I'm his greatest ever devotee “.
Having this thought , King Ravana goes to Kailash.
At the entrance of Kailash , Ravana encounters Nandi.
Ravana tells Nandi, his wish of taking Shiva to Lanka.
Then Nandi says “ oh great Ravana , how can you be so selfish ? Why you want to take Our God Shiva to Lanka forever ?? How can we all and Goddess Parvathi survive in Shiva's absence ?”
To this Ravana fumes at Nandi and says “ how dare you give me suggestions ?? You are just an animal,bull and no less than a monkey . ”
Nandi replies , “ yes Ravana , I'm a mere animal. But don't forget that, this is kailash. Everyone is treated equally here by our God Shiva. ”
Ravana says “ I'm surprised , why Shiva has appointed an animal and a monkey like you , as his mount and head of ganas !”
Nandi loses his temper and says “ Hey Ravana, you have become very arrogant. And you are referring me as Monkey. You think monkeys / Vanaras are so low ?? I hereby curse you , because of a monkey, you and your kingdom will decline and pave the way for your demise !”
And Nandi’s curse works, with Lord Hanuman being born as a Vanar, and he paved a way to Ravana and his Kingdom's decline.
Please note .... Nandi is also a rudra avatar of Shiv ji.
Lord Rama with the help of Hanuman and the army of monkeys kills Ravana.
Coming back to the Podcast discussion ... Good discussion, but Hanuman Ji is a Kapi ... a vanar ... monkey ... and there was a reason ... a leela for this as Ravan could have been killed only by a Nar or a Vanar ... he was so confident that a human (Nar) or a monkey a vanar can never kill him so after penance (Tapasya) Ravan asked for a boon that he could never be defeated of killed by anyone except a Nar or vanar.
So please read more books, Vanar ka matlab aadivasi is an educated guess madam. Tulsidas ji had darshan of Sakshat Hanuman ji and Shri Ram at the place in Varanasi. Even today there is Hanumanjis temple at this same place called 'Sankat Mochan' temple.
Hanumans mother was an Apsara from Swarg who was cursed by Rishi Durwasa ji to become a vanari and was sent to earth. She gets married to Vanar Raj Kesari father of Hanumanji.
Name of Hanuman Jis mother was Anjani and as Apsara she was known as Punjikasthala.
So when Shiv ji decided to take a rudra avatar as Hanuman ji as a vanar/ape, mata Parvati too wanted to accompany Shivji in his Vanar avatar. So, Hanuman ji's tail represents Pravati or Shakti. Hence, when Ravan tries to burn Hanuman Ji's tail. it was a dumb task like burning the maha agni with tuccha agni. Which in turn burn down the entire Lanka.
This event of burning Lanka to ashes also has a context, as the above story mentions that Ravan tricks lord Shiva to get the Golden Lanka as Dakshina. Mata Parvati was very displeased by this and had wowed to burn this golden Lanka to ashes some day. Hence, the burning of Lanka was a leela and Lanka was burned by Hanuman Ji's tail. As mentioned above, mata parvati accopanied Lord Shiva in the form of Hanuman Ji's tail. Always remember, Shiv-Shakti is one, Mahadev is Ardhnareshwar, so they can not be separated. Hence, they always remain together.
Its not that simple, everything is interconnected and there is a reason for everything. Need to read and understand stuff clearly.
Hanumanji is a chiranjeev for a reason. He will assist bhagwan Vishnu in his Kalki avatar in future.
Similarly, all other vanars or monkeys were Dev purtas.
Bali, Sugriva, Nal, Neel etc etc
Even Bali was very jealous of Hanuman ji since childhood and use to call Hanuman ji as Markat which means vanar / monkey.
And, just because Tulsidas ji was born during the Moughal era doesn't means people at that time were dumb. It was a era of Maha RanaPratap too. So historic perpective ka tagada fark hai yahan. Tulsidas was revered by Maha Rana Pratap family and Akbar tried top harm him in which he fails miserably.
Moughals where never the power center, they kept struggling for the same. But where always challanged by Hindu Kindoms under Maha RanaPratap teh Sisodia Clan, Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and many other kindoms who supported these kings.
In this Kaliyug too there are many Siddha Saints like Adi Sharkaracharya, Tulsidas Ji, Surdas Ji, Sant Kabir, Sant Gyaneshwar, Sant Namdeo, Guru Govind Singh Ji, Ram Krishna Paramhans ji, Swami Vivekanand and many who have seen Lord Ram, Hanuman Ji. Isii kalyug main Gorakhnath ji jaise sant bhi hue. So please aisa perceptions na failain. Tulsidas ji ki rachana Ram Charit Manas unhone Shri Rma ji aur Hanuman Ji ke darshan hone ke baad hi likhi hai.
Ye sare pramaan siddh hai, inko na to koi nakar nahi sakta hai aur na hi koi jhuthla sakta hai. Aur to aur even during the Ayodhya verdict in the Supreme Court, the 7 Judge bench took notice of the details and evidences quoted from Ram Charitmanas and other granths by Param Pujya Guru Shri Ram Bhadra Charya Ji. He is blind since his birth but he has the knowledge of all granths, puranas and veds. Event the SC judges where astonished by Ram Bhadracharya Ji's knowledge and evidences and references he provided. All the details were bang accurate to exact tithi, star positions and details of the location of Ayodhya. These details where cross verified by the modern day Astronomers and they too had to agree that the place where the Ram Temple is built is the same place mentioned in the various ancient scriptures.

Ravan is still ravan ji … respect must be given to his dedication and power in all aspects. Great devotee of shiva and master in shastras … his only downfall was his ego .. and that is what you have to learn from .. even ram paid his respect to him at the end.
