I remember reading a letter in one of the leading car magazines, in the mid '70s. The writer had a Porsche 911, and decided after many years of satisfaction, to buy a new one. He went to the dealer and placed his order, and found a buyer for his old Porsche. While waiting for the new one to be delivered, he bought a 'cheapo' interim car, the then new AlfaSud ti 1200. It was so much fun to drive that he cancelled the new Porsche. I bet it dissolved, though.....
Amazing car! I had one and I miss it very much. I remember when I had it that I had to make every weekend a journey from Braga to Porto - about 50 Km ride - and, many times, I would leave Braga with the low fuel light on, that meant the car was already spending fuel from the reserve, and I would arrive at Porto with the light still on and still enough fuel to cross the city to where I lived. A very economic and reliable car. Miss you, AX!!

@@marcamant7258 The 4 speed 1.1 injection with 3 doors only weighed 687 KG. Goes like hell and about 105 mph
@@RensOtteweyn I agree my AX TRS had 1.4 l about 85 hp 5 speed AND 3 doors. And may be lighter as you noticed. The chassis was quite impressive. My brother in law had for his job an AX diesel. In this time i wasn't a fast driver.. But by now . Take care all of you because of the covid.
I remember the AX winning the 1.4l class of the 24h race several times. Just like the Clio or the Peugeot 205 with the small engine: light, good balance, fun to drive!
Engine usage: 100%. Chassis usage: 100%. Track usage: 200%. Lol, looks a lotta fun!
Go big or go home...that's how you should do it. nothing to lose, flat out AX 1.0 L doing crazy speeds of 78kmh.
impressive.
Look at those beautifully smooth, controllable slides!
Some may laugh but, he's clearly having fun! Perhaps more fun then the people in the much faster modern cars which put you on a knife edge the moment you approach the limit.
He can use 100% of the car's power, grip and handling almost all the time, and still be at relatively sane speeds. He is probably smiling while the Porsche driver is sweating like mad
It doesn't matter which car are you driving. What matters is having fun and this dude does!
An empty ax , the top for the nurb !
Wow!
Who knew you could use pizza cutters for tires?!
Wheels size 145-70 R 13, or 155-70 R 13
About half of europe before 1990...
And thats why he can do amazing, controllable slides and safe speeds, even with just 45bhp on tap! :-D
Skinny tyres will teach a driver much more about the limits of grip than modern low profiles.
Living on the edge!
That guy is a f...ing LEGEND!!!
Excellent - maintains almost constant momentum, minimum braking and very little scrub off. It’s a great way to have fun!
the Power is just right so that you can be flat out in 3rd gear in the whole track, corners included
Sin duda con ese coche te diviertes mas que muchos deportivos, grande Citroen AX.
This really made me smile, didn't expect to see this. I have owned an AX about 25-30 years ago. Fun little car.
He’s got a far better grasp of his car’s performance envelope than most drivers of fancier cars who show up on these Nürburgring weekends.
He’s well known and is an absolute legend. I always enjoy seeing him lap - his attitude is the epitome of slow cars driven fast being better than fast cars driven slow👌👍.
I owned an AX 11TRE in the 90's...great little car! It was by far the lightest in its category, very fun to drive. And with lowered spring and sporty shock adsorbers it also had excellent handling...
It was also my first car, a red one! Pure fun!
Bravo to the tyre manufacturer, those razor blades have better traction then most of the BMW's
Kind of painful to watch it get trashed but the guy knows his car, that's for sure. Also a car with some proper body roll is so much more entertaining to watch :)
Looks like fun. Every corner a ten tenths four wheel drift, scraping the door handles, with no concerns about what it will cost to fix it if you get it wrong. On public roads no concerns about speeding tickets either.
makes me proud of driving daily in a citroen ax 10
What I love in the AX is that the full body flexes and is “part” of the suspension. Just a coincidence in the engineering
I wonder how many fatigue cycles it could take...
@@simsnqta I had driven an AX GT almost brand new. It felt like it had a chassis built by gel :-) . I also was a passenger in an AX after 100.000 Kms in 25 years driven nicely. It felt like a puzzle of plastic and metal , really “soft”. But, the AX converted for tarmac races are just spectacular
Damn, he's still going ? Posted a sub 10 BTG video some years ago.
I think he even drives from Bordeaux... commitment.
Seems unfazed by the weather, or whether it's on or off the track, for that matter. Seemingly immune to driver mistakes, and indifferent to driver input. The perfect Nurburgring chariot for a beginner.
Guy knows how to drive!
The tires look like the thin ones they used on early 20th century cars!
He is really good driver and manages so well in the turns, especially the drift ones, absolutely professional. Well done 👍🚗🤩
"Lift? Where I come from we don't lift!" Just proves money doesn't buy fun!
Absolutely fantastic, long suspension travel and a bit of body roll is no bad thing. A legend, if I were in that car I would be laughing my nuts off.
And in the end of the video, you can see that he overtook the red Suzuki Swift back again, which occurred earlier the other way around. It must be due to his driving exceptional abillities on the wet, that he went first again. The Citroën AX driver.
The AX chasing a Mustang... #Legend 😂😂😂😂
On a damp track, too! Legendary 👏👏👏 In my native language we have a saying - "Wala sa pana yan, nasa Indian" Translation: It's not in the arrow, it's in the Indian (substituted for 'archer'). So much fun to watch!
kerbs: exist
this guy: it's free real estate!
She ´s clean af
Let's see some fancy rear wheel drive sports cars follow him there during some heavy rain...
I don’t think he’s even bothering to brake 😂 just flat in and out lift off or on driving on the throttle and shifting weight 😊
That AX must be super light no interior and having some body panels made of abs
I can’t get over how slim those tires are 😱
Excellent !!!!
I want to see the whole lap from the dashcam! The whole 49 minutes of it :)
So yeah', take that spanking Porsche!!
That's how I view American cars in a nutshell, in reference to the Mustang, and same goes for that Porsche, nice cars and all, but it's more fun to drive a "slow" car fast, than a fast car slow.
That's not a diesel, the 10E is a 954cc TU9 gasoline engine. You can also spot it by the fact that it has 3 lug nuts instead of 4.
Somebody must've been blasting eurobeat remixes...
Someone having a great time ... And using his mirrors too👍🏼
Amazing car!
Great way to learn the track, doesn't break the bank, one tank runs for couple of months(maybe not) and you can go flat out all the time. That period tin can also gives you sooooo much more feel, unlike modern over engineered cars. BIG Thumb up!!
Footage of a real man
Us: You need tyres with more grip mate!!!!
Him: These tyres are too grippy
I bet he had more fun than if he was driving any kind of electric or automatic car
I passed my driving test back in 1990 in a AX GT. That was a nice car!
I had one of these also. It was actually pretty quick too due to it’s low mass.
One of the lightest cars that ever "raced" the ring... What if, one day, it gets a R1 engine swap 😉
The funniest thing is the tow hitch on the back! What are you going to tow with an AX?
