Boy, this was nostalgic and nobody deserves the spotlight more than the spotlight maker himself and my agent, Rachard Johnson! He puts everyone on the map and deserves to be highlighted - so this video was long overdue!!! Thank you for making this, Butch!!! I loved seeing his old sections and after reading the comments about trick names and trying to see where I stand in all of it. I think I’m gonna be sick if I read anymore about it!!! Sure, it’s fascinating but anything can get confusing if you put too much thought into it! I say Nike - Just Do It!!!
Rachard has been hammering out OTAD videos and before that he was hammering out sections and hammering out hammers so he’s been busy at work for decades.. It’s a blessing to have him as part of our industry and sport and to be able to call him my dear friend!!!

If a true top soul isn't alley oop, then it cant be a true top soyale. It must be a true top torque soul. Rollerblading nomenclature needs an overhaul lol

Not to appeal to authority, but I have a degree in English including extensive studies of grammar and linguistics. I think most of the inconsistencies in terminology are a product of trick names and definitions initially being introduced prior to a holistic syntactical framework being determined. I would argue that most of this has resolved itself over time. For example, a soyale evolving to be a torqued variation of a soul, much like a misfit being a torqued variation of a kindgrind. It's a misfit regardless of the spin (alleyoop or truespin), just as a soyale should be. That's because the syntax for trick names eventually stabilized with the base trick being independent of it's modifiers. In fact, the order of the modifiers is also pretty universal now: approach --> spin --> trick --> landing. For example: "Disaster inspin topsoul to fakie. Any of the modifiers can be omitted when redundant or irrelevant. I might make a video on this topic, I find it fascinating.

@@RollMinnesota I was being semi-facetious, it wasn't supposed to come off as correcting you... I was skating during the time all these things developed so I know why it is the way it is. Nevertheless I think your misfit example proves my point - if it's misfit regardless of spin, then it should be torque soul regardless of spin. It's inconsistent. It's only a soyale when it's alley oop. It's not like you can do a front soyale, do you know what I mean? Or if you look at it the other way - If it's a true soyale because you're traveling backwards then that means a true spin soul should actually be a true spin alley oop soul. True spins really put a spanner in the works haha. We need to decide if alley oop is the spin or if it means a backwards grind, it irks me that its kind of both but only sometimes.

@@RollMinnesotaI hope you do make a video on it as I also find the subject fascinating.

@@toasty862 Guessing Soyale is meant to be like Royale but a Soul. So anything truespin or alleyoop. Torque Soul is going forward like a Torque. I never say Soyale or Misfit honestly. I find it dumb to re-name just one variation of another trick. But I do say Sweatstance and Kind only because everyone else does. Whoever came up with the naming really made everything more confusing for everyone.
