Hard To Swallow Pill: You're allowed to acknowledge when CGI has aged while STILL appreciating how advanced it was for its time.
And not only that, Universal did BEAUTIFULLY with using practical action SFX to blend with the CGI.

@Jimb0 When I watch the Mummy (and The Mummy Returns to a lesser extent), it never fails to transport me back to age 7. The music, the cinematography, the actors, and the story just all come together as one unit. The movie knows when to be silly, and when to take things a little more seriously. It makes you forget that it's an action, comedy, AND horror rolled into one. When I saw the Mummy in 2017, I didn't feel like a 7 year old would want anything to do it. The film was colorless and muted, the action scenes were all lifted from THIS version, and above all, it just didn't seem like anyone was having fun! It didn't make me want to board the roller coaster and take the journey with them.

@MonkeyZorr it might be shitty by todays standards (i personally dont think so) but it was still about 10 to 15 years ahead of its time. And they did use some practical effects mixed with cgi.

but thousands of years later, after actually being revived, she immediatly just finds herself in the same situation again. and this time, she cant escape her fate. the judgement and punishment of the paharos guards finally catches up to her.

Wouldn't be worth making unless they have a script so good they can get Rachel Weisz back. The third one sucked because it was in China not Egypt and had no Rachel.
Amy future instalment will need Rachel to be in it. Rachel and brendan made these movies.
They'd wanna hurry up though as there's a 5 or 6 year window left before they they look too old to play action hero's and a fun fit couple. We need them to look young enough and both are still looking good but will be well aged by late 50s id say.
We need one last film set in 1950s Egypt to end their story

Now? We're in a brainless, talentless feminist era of trash movies in which women are geniuses with a great sense of humor and stronger than any man or creature. One problem - the writers are dumb and humorless, and nobody fcking believes a 40 pound woman can toss a man around.
Ironically, in the previous eras we had actual strong and believable female characters like Ripley. Nowadays women have to be glorified and men stupified without any logical reason besides feminists being butthurt.

This is just my opinion, mind you, but I really don't understand why the Tom Cruise "The Mummy" gets so much hate. It isn't a remake or reboot; it is its own movie with its own and new characters, story line, etc. This version, as awesome as it is, isn't even an original in its own right. In fact, this one is a remake of the original 1932 "The Mummy" starring Boris Karloff.
That being said, here's a little fun fact: Tom Cruise's "The Mummy" was originally going to be a continuation of the Brendan Fraser franchise, with the O'Connell's in Latin America battling an Aztec mummy (whom was going to be portrayed by Antonio Banderas).

That's true, in fact he wasn't very evil at all. Ancksunamun stabbed the pharaoh, and then Imhotep had to pay the price, everything he did subsequently was just to get back the woman he loved, and the fact that she was just using him the whole time is awful. I really wish that Rick and Evie has saved him the the pit to hell after Ancksunamun abandoned him, and then he would become a hero and join them using his mummy powers to save the world instead

@@susanbarberyoga1664 Well, he lost his powers 'cuz Anubis wanted him to fight against Scorpion King as mortal, so he wouldn't be a hero then. He left himself go when Ancksunamun betrayed him, he lost his will to live. Ok, he wasn't very evil at all at the beginning, but after he became an undead and was about to sacrifice Evie he said he was gonna rule the world so...
Makes me wonder why he got a curse that would make him a demi-god if resurrected tho :3

What I love about this Mummy is it wasn’t exactly trying to be a “remake” of the Boris Karloff movie. It knew it wants to be: a fun light hearted adventure movie.
This movie and Independence Day to me are the definition of fun 90s popcorn entertainment.

It payed homage constantly to the art direction and style of the original film whilst at the same time retelling the exact same story in a new, modern and interesting manner.

The first two mummy movies in the Brendan Fraser trilogy were good. Part 3 was bad

    • @Lightsaber-
      @Lightsaber- 5 лет назад +15

It only seems bad because Rachel Weisz didn't come back. But at the time, she was having a baby, and even then she turned it down for refusing to portray a character whom has a 21 year old son. And the woman that replaced her (Maria Bello) was more than willing to step into the role

The third one was correct as a standalone but not as a sequel. While the 2017 is quite shitty, the only good part was the mummy that i wanted to win for once.

@@Lightsaber- That and Freddie Boath wasn't there either (not that Luke Ford was terrible playing Alex but it would have been interesting to see Freddie reprised his character). The only good thing to come out of 3 was Brendan Fraser and John Hannah reprising their roles. And Jet Li making an appearance of course
