Which is why it is recommended to use a hyphen between compounded nouns where it would alleviate ambiguity (e.g. "Alpen-Ostrand", "Ur-Instinkt"). This makes even more sense when your compounds contain foreign loan words (e.g. "Altbau-Charme", "Software-Installation") which often lead to suddenly bordering vowels being misconstrued as false diphthongs.

They just take everything too seriously. We don't. THEY think that so long as they play by THEIR strict rules everything will work out in their favour. WW2 proved them wrong. What I really like about German males is that they are so soft and considerate. I'm in a German boyfriend's flat in Frankfurt; he's trying to get a job. You would not believe the obsequiousness. 'Jah! Woll!'. Could hardly believe my ears.

you´re supposed to think about what a zwegel-stern, alt-bauch-arme or hochen-taster could mean. But it makes sense that this only works as a native speaker because our understanding of words is focused on the last word when we create compound nouns. Because the last word is the most important. All other words in compound nouns are to descrice the last one.
