- If you have access to an air rivet gun or an automotive style riveter, you can repack your HMF ATV, Dirtbike, and Motorcycle exhaust. Simply follow the directions on the video to repack your system.
This is an ignorant business model and policy. People who own machines like these often do their own maintenance, and the last thing they want to do is take it off, box it up, and mail it off, hope it arrives and without damages, then wait their turn for it to be serviced, and finally mailed back again without getting lost or damages. Not too mention the expense of mailing an item like this every 40/50hrs. Even if your turn around time is a day, a person is still out a couple weeks of ride time waiting on it. Did I mention the cost of shipping these days? So stupid. Just sell the damn repack kits....there's no differences in a hand rivets or air rivets for this application. Im an 25yr design and manufacturing engineer.
I agree...and also, why not just have allen bolts or something to take it apart like the end cap? For this reason I will not be buying a HMF exhaust in the future.
@@e5m956Same. I'm done with HMF.
Do I buy the repacking off of HMF's website?
@leafsrule16 haha I see, I just didnt know if it was hard on anything, but I heard from a lot of people it gets 2x louder! Haha which I love!
@leafsrule16 Yeah, I suppose. I drive a utiltiy atv though so you best repack at least every year
I was wondering if the heavy duty hand riveter will work. I dont see why it wouldn't. Also, what size rivets, 3/16???
Do you need to put Silicon around the inlet cap side? I see other videos showing this, but I do not see it on this one? I have an HMF Performance Blackout series exhaust.
No. Silicon sealer is not used anywhere on our exhausts, and we do not recommend using sealants
@@HMFExhausts thank you
I would put silicone on it. Even with a tightly fitting silencer plug water gets in mine and leaks out the bottom where its riveted one first start after washing so it absolutely needs to be sealed.
We use red hot rivets & a dolly in the UK.
I have different packing? Its more of a stringy packing..Is this okay?
Is there any way to get a replacement core for an HMF pipe? I have the sport series for a LT-Z, and the core broke.
Is there an exhaust out there that doesn't need repacking!!!!
Do I have to remove the Rivets on both sides for it to come off
Yes you need to completely remove every rivet to repack. We recommend using our services.
@leafsrule16 Do you have to repack it after about a year or just an option?
donde puedo conseguir esa fibra aca en bogota colombia thanks
@HMFengineering yes
you guys should make a hmf for a can am 400 id buy it =)
Is there a repacking kit available or does anyone know what alternatives there are? I thought I’d be able to get one easy but this is proving to be a chore. The muffler is p/n 534263607488i believe. It’s approx 4” DIA. x 15” LG. It appears to have a string or ‘loose’ packing around 1/2 of the core, a layer of steel wool, then a tighter packed layer maybe 1/2- 3/4” think around the whole thing.
We do not sell Repack Kits with our exhaust systems. Since our mufflers are air-rivoted, we offer repack and repair services that will get you your exhaust in near-new condition. You can submit for a repack here:

I have everything except new rivets. How do you know what size to get?
They are 3/16" Long Reach Stainless Steel Rivets, requiring a pneumatic (air powered) rivet gun.
Okay!! Thanks!!
Do you have to repack it after about a year or just an option?
Yes, you'll need to completely take the can apart. We do not recommend repacking yourself. We offer services for that

@HMFengineering you dont have to have a silencer. right?
What did you use to repack it?
All of the tools and materials used in this video were parts from our exhaust systems. We don't sell repack kits, but we do offer repacking services of your exhaust. www.hmfracing.com/support/repairs
Where do I get the packing?
HMF doesn't sell repacking or repack kits. Since our exhaust systems are rivoted, we offer a repack service in which we repack and repair the entire exhaust. You can learn all about it here: www.hmfracing.com/support/repairs
You dont need no air rivet gun....total BS. I did mine with an old fashion hand rivet tool. You dont need no stinken air rivet gun. The guys at HMF must have hand problems.
What packing did you buy? Going to do ours too.
Not to mention, why even use rivets to begin with? Why not allen bolts or something easily removable with more common tools? Back in the 90s when I raced 250 2 stroke my FMF silencers came apart with 8mm bolts.
what's wrong with the hillbilly way just wrap it with steel wool
I don't think steel wool absorbs sound very good.
i dont think they have packing
size of the rivet nail ?
