I have a brand new trailer and the factory put the axle on crooked, and the location isn’t quite right either for the tongue weight to be correct when hauling my Harley, so I planned to remove the axle, cut off the mounts, and put it all back straight, and move it forward a small amount for the balance, but this may be a better solution, or upgrade.
These are only good for lightweight use. Anything that will exceed 5k lbs use axels. These are also prone to swaying. Especially after they have been used for a while. They are good for adventure/teardrop type campers. Very easy to raise or lower them with this setup. Make sure to elongate the holes drilled for them and test before welding. You might find yourself pulling a trailer that is pulling to the side.
You can use this design by Timbren for a number of uses that exceed 5,000lbs or more. I was quoted and plan on buying their products for my Black Iron/Full Framed Tiny House on Wheels. I’m just waiting to catch up on other stuff before I redo the suspension for my trailer. I own 8 old trucks as well so they take up a bunch of my money haha.
Great product to upgrade an older trailer to even better than when it was new, even better for a new trailer and it looks like it will be a weight saver too.

Love it. Simple but affective design. My only struggle on my overland trailer with a current dexter axle is ordering the right height. I cant figure out if standard or 4” lift will be appropriate. Trailer is kind of tall with 32” tires.

The spring set up is actually better. E Trailer you should correct your techs mis information. The rubber/urethane has a progressive rate spring and you can see the tire actually come off of the road due to the slow rebound of a rubber spring vs steel spring. Also be concerned with toe and camber issue when loaded vs conventional .188 wall tube spring axle.

This is pretty much a torsion axle. The only real difference I see is the method of dampening. I don't dislike it however I would like it better if the spindle and trailing arm were designed so that the spindle bolted to the underside of the trailing arm instead of on top. In the configuration shown here the 4 mounting bolts take up the all the load whereas if the spindle was bolted to the underside of the trailing arm the trailing arm would take more of the weight and the bolts would more or less keep the spindle in place.
how does this compare to a torsion axle? i have had good luck with the torsion axles on my 10,000lb work trailer. had lots of wear and maintenance on the leaf sprung axles on my car trailer looking to change at some point.
These axle-less systems are a bit different than a traditional torsion axle. The axle-less system is nice because if you hit a bump on the one side of the trailer, the other side of the trailer does not recoil from the bump. I have provided a link to the 5200 lb kits that we carry. www.etrailer.com/dept-pg-Trailer_Leaf_Spring_Suspension-pt-Axle_Replacement_System-gw-5200_lbs.aspx
Is it okay to weld this system in place, or does Timbren recommend not welding? Also, what's the weight rating? Do they make these to handle up to 5k Lbs. each to replace a 10k axle?
You can weld this system in addition to bolting it to the trailer frame. We have many different sizes available to match what your trailer needs. www.etrailer.com/dept-pg-Trailer_Leaf_Spring_Suspension-pt-Axle_Replacement_System.aspx
Many people have used this for off road trailers. It is really nice because you don't have to worry about the axle hitting anything when you are out on a trail. www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Leaf-Spring-Suspension/Timbren/A12RS440.html
We used scare tubing with 1/4" wall thickness because we wanted it to be stout enough to handle the loads we are going to carry. www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Leaf-Spring-Suspension/Timbren/A12RS440.html
We have seen these installed on a trailer from Northern Tool. You just want to be sure you are mounting it to at least a 2x3" trailer frame. www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Axles/Timbren/A12RS440.html
The old leaf springs on this trailer were worn out to the point where they needed replacing. www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Leaf-Spring-Suspension/Timbren/A12RS440.html
Do not buy this suspension system I had and it failed a good design but poor( welding wells broke right down the middle of the weld ) the tow job cost me $2500 to get my trailer out of the desert just to the nearest town beware
This kit is going to be a lot easier for most people to get installed. It is harder to install a weld on kit. www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Leaf-Spring-Suspension/Timbren/A12RS440.html
For a tandem trailer you can use two sets of the Timbren systems however a third set for triple axle trailers is too much. The third axle will scrub too much for the Timbrens take. They'll be independent of one another. Another option for tandem trailers is the Silent Ride www.etrailer.com/dept-pg-Trailer_Leaf_Spring_Suspension-co-Tandem_Axle-pm-Timbren.aspx These replace the suspension of a tandem trailer but you still use your standard axles. -Chuck S
The rubber springs are designed to last the lifetime of the trailer as long as they are not abused and they are maintained. www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Leaf-Spring-Suspension/Timbren/A12RS440.html
The most liked feature that people like with this kit is that if you hit a bump on one side of the trailer, it will not transfer the movement to the other side. This kit is also nice because if one side of the kit gets damaged for some reason, you don't have to replace both. www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Leaf-Spring-Suspension/Timbren/A12RS440.html
It absolutely can! Many people have converted their dual axle trailers to this system and they love it! www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Leaf-Spring-Suspension/Timbren/A12RS440.html
I am interested this system for my 2023 intech luna rover with 5 bolt lugs , i contacted etrailer ( adam ) he asked me to call timbren which best fit for my trailer , timbren rep can't recommend instead send me all the specs sheets and im not experts with those specs, im interested with this parts TASR35HDS07 base on your experty can i still reuses all hubs and bearing, according to your video i can . Thanks and hope hear back from you
You'll want to check the linked product page, where we list the bearings that the unit is compatible with. You'll want to make sure it'll be compatible with your existing hubs/bearings. www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Axles/Timbren/TASR35HDS07.html
It is going to depend on the trailer that this kit is being installed on. If there is a cross member above where the new system will go then there is no need for the cross tube. But, I agree the tube should have been flush to outside of the bracket. Keep in mind the cross tube is not included in the kit. www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Leaf-Spring-Suspension/Timbren/A12RS440.html

You need to make sure that the hubs use the same bearings and grease seal as the spindle. You can either find the part numbers for these on the bearings and grease seal directly or you can use a digital caliper and measure the locations on the spindle that those parts ride to the nearest thousandths. Below is a link to our selection of hubs and drums as well as a link to an FAQ on bearings and seals. The Timbren Axle-Less Suspension can handle highway speeds so you really just need to check the speed rating for your tires and be sure not to exceed that.
You can most definitely use this system to replace you boat trailer axle. You will want to make sure that you get the appropriate size to replace your factory axle. www.etrailer.com/dept-pg-Trailer_Leaf_Spring_Suspension-pt-Axle_Replacement_System.aspx

These are really cool. You won't have to worry about bottoming out because there's no axle. www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Leaf-Spring-Suspension/Timbren/A12RS440.html
The Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System will work well on a boat trailer. It has a heavy-duty steel construction which doesn't make it the best option for a salt water application, but it does have a black powder coat finish that helps to resist wear and corrosion and will hold up better than a standard painted axle in a saltwater environment. The Timbren Axle-Less system will have normal wear and tear as long as it is taken care of. The spindles use the EZ Lube feature which allows you to grease the zerk fitting without having to take the whole hub off. This is a great time saver option that some people don't even know about. That is really the only maintenance that you will have to take care of.
This system would do just fine in light offroad conditions. Check out the following link for more information on this kit. www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Leaf-Spring-Suspension/Timbren/A12RS440.html

Can’t say I’d agree with not needing any lube just because it uses urethane bushings. Urethane squeaks sooo bad if you don’t regularly grease it.

The plate takes the load, not the bolts.
how does this compare to a torsion axle? i have had good luck with the torsion axles on my 10,000lb work trailer. had lots of wear and maintenance on the leaf sprung axles on my car trailer looking to change at some point.
How well does this set up work off-road? I’m starting a trailer conversion and if this set up can handle light off-road I may have to grab a couple
Many people have used this for off road trailers. It is really nice because you don't have to worry about the axle hitting anything when you are out on a trail.

Use Cone bits to step up size.
What wall thickness of square tubing should you use for the crossbar ?
We used scare tubing with 1/4" wall thickness because we wanted it to be stout enough to handle the loads we are going to carry.
www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Leaf-Spring-Suspension/Timbren/A12RS440.html
this isnt a review of the product but more of an advertisement for it
Ya it seems a lot of companies on youtube don't know the difference between an overview and a review.
Will this work on a aluminum trailer from northern tool 40"x48"
We have seen these installed on a trailer from Northern Tool. You just want to be sure you are mounting it to at least a 2x3" trailer frame.
www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Axles/Timbren/A12RS440.html
was that trailer over loaded or y was the axle on leafspring setup touching the frame?
The old leaf springs on this trailer were worn out to the point where they needed replacing.
www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Leaf-Spring-Suspension/Timbren/A12RS440.html
So this suspension works basically like an independent suspension with no axle tube to get beaten and bent ?
You are correct. It helps to give you more ground clearance.
www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Leaf-Spring-Suspension/Timbren/A12RS440.html
Basically like the 2win double deck trailers you see here in Europe lol
Do not buy this suspension system I had and it failed a good design but poor( welding wells broke right down the middle of the weld ) the tow job cost me $2500 to get my trailer out of the desert just to the nearest town beware
Yikes, which model did you have and how heavy was your trailer?
@@RossFeighery I have the 2500 pound axle the material did not break it’s just a poor welding I would not buy another one
@@nielmadsen9806 I've never heard of this, maybe you got the axle's built on a Friday afternoon?
I see that you bolted everything to the trailer, would you not recommend a weld on application?
This kit is going to be a lot easier for most people to get installed. It is harder to install a weld on kit.

Hello, I own a travel trailer camper with a 9,500lbs GVWR. Will this work with my camper as well?
I too have a travel trailer I'm interested in doing this too, did you ever do this to yours or did you decide not to. Thanks
What about tandem applications? Is there a way to equalize the pairs or would it be independent?
For a tandem trailer you can use two sets of the Timbren systems however a third set for triple axle trailers is too much. The third axle will scrub too much for the Timbrens take. They'll be independent of one another.
Another option for tandem trailers is the Silent Ride www.etrailer.com/dept-pg-Trailer_Leaf_Spring_Suspension-co-Tandem_Axle-pm-Timbren.aspx These replace the suspension of a tandem trailer but you still use your standard axles.

How long does the rubber last and is it replaceable?
The rubber springs are designed to last the lifetime of the trailer as long as they are not abused and they are maintained.
www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Leaf-Spring-Suspension/Timbren/A12RS440.html
Question. Why would you use this over a torsion axe?
The most liked feature that people like with this kit is that if you hit a bump on one side of the trailer, it will not transfer the movement to the other side. This kit is also nice because if one side of the kit gets damaged for some reason, you don't have to replace both.

Can a dual axle trailer be converted to this?
It absolutely can! Many people have converted their dual axle trailers to this system and they love it!

What torque wrench is that?
Randy's no longer with the company, but I believe it was a Craftsman # CMMT99436.

The cross tube should extend at least flush to the outside of the side plates to transfer load properly, leaving just inside is just stupid
It is going to depend on the trailer that this kit is being installed on. If there is a cross member above where the new system will go then there is no need for the cross tube. But, I agree the tube should have been flush to outside of the bracket. Keep in mind the cross tube is not included in the kit.

etrailer.com looks like a great product guys , will have a look on your site. Sorry to be picky curse of being a structural engineer.
We are happy to help! You know what you're talking about and there's no shame in that. Let us know if there's anything else we can do to help.
They tried rubber ride years ago the rubber wears out real fast then they vibrate a old idea that sucked

How do you know what hubs to buy to fit the axel? I don't want to buy the wrong hubs
If you still need some assistance you can reach out to us directly here www.etrailer.com/customer-service.aspx

How much speed can this axle less things handle?
Is there a maximum speed it can handle up to
The Timbren Axle-Less Suspension can handle highway speeds so you really just need to check the speed rating for your tires and be sure not to exceed that.
Do these systems work on trailers that are imersed in salt water like boat trailers?
You can most definitely use this system to replace you boat trailer axle. You will want to make sure that you get the appropriate size to replace your factory axle.

@@etrailer cool, thanks.
Ok for dual axles?
We have an axle-less system designed for tandem axles. Check it out in the following link.

Comprar ???
So great! I've needed this info for a while.
These are really cool. You won't have to worry about bottoming out because there's no axle.
www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Leaf-Spring-Suspension/Timbren/A12RS440.html
Are these adequate for boat trailers?
Would these hold up well for slight off-road use and rougher rides if I were to use them on a small tear drop trailer build
This system would do just fine in light offroad conditions. Check out the following link for more information on this kit.
www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Leaf-Spring-Suspension/Timbren/A12RS440.html
That is what they were designed for.
Tandem axles?
You can use this in a tandem axle set up.
www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Leaf-Spring-Suspension/Timbren/A12RS440.html
These would be worth considering if they weren't so expensive. I could buy a complete trailer for less than the asking price of these.
it looks like that system only has 2.5 inches of travel (which is terrible)
It's not crazy expensive either
What's the price?
Holes? You have to be kidding!!! Ya' mean you don't have a welder?
What does a welder have to do with creating holes?
rod builder not everybody has a welder. This guy is showing it can be done by anyone with simple tools. Bolts are better for anyone that's not a professional welder. I have a welder but I'd still bolt it.
Could you just weld it on?
You could definitely weld this kit on if you had the means to do so but more people are going to be able to bolt it on with the tools they have in their garage.

why do you need brakez

This set up will require an anti sway bar
We have many people that pull trailers with this system on it everyday and they do not have issues with sway.

What's the benefit of the square cross beam?
It is going to add extra support if there is not a cross member on the trailer in line with the Timbren Axle-Less System. The cross beam will not be included, you will have to supply it.
www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Leaf-Spring-Suspension/Timbren/A12RS440.html
It’s cost as much as a used trailer. Lol
You look like a more smarter, less dorkier version of Ashton Kutcher.
@Rowdy Haahaahaa....great description. This guy could definitely have been a stunt double for Ashton from the movie "Guess Who".
Who says there aren't clones walking around?
Or just buy a torsion axle.
You could also go with a torsion axle. People like how that suspension feels on the Timbren Axle-Less system.
