      A TV show might've been better, but it's also just the writing that is kind of horrible. Just feels like they had a bunch of "hey, this is kind of cool"-ideas and no idea how to set any of them up properly or even connect them in a meaningful way at all. Almost none of the characters feel like they have a connection to each other by the end of the movie, which is pretty much only used to bring these characters together. None of the "impactful" scenes work, because they are never set up. Only changing the structure of how this was told really wouldn't change all of that.

      It's the other way around, the reference point is usually the oldest or the first who brought the story to life. I don't think Bugs life has been made before 1954's Seven Samurai. The craziest about the original movie is that despite being 3 hours long, in black and white it still holds up to this day. @@jinxie712

    The budget was 160 for both parts as far as I’m aware… with 83mil tagged for the first movie. The second was filmed back to back and is out in April 24. Before that we will see the extended cut… I’m hoping that will fill some of the holes as the film was lacking somewhat… as we all are aware.
    I too was filled with hope and wanted to like this movie and I too liked the first act but was disappointed that it dropped into set piece after set piece and also failed to surprise me and find connection with the characters.
    Sigh… let’s see what part two gives us. Personally I preferred “The Creator” as the surprising sci fi film of the year… it too has its flaws but the effects, world building, efforts in story building and philosophy felt very cinematic and intrigued me far more then this damp squib

    • @nbucwa6621
      @nbucwa6621 8 месяцев назад +1

      As far as I've heard, we probably won't get a director's cut until after Part 2 comes out because they are worried it will cut into profits if people really like the director's cut so much that they decide only to watch the director cut versions and not the PG13 versions. They are going to wring as much viewership out of the PG13 versions as possible before showing the director's cuts. And as each movie has it's own director cut, it makes sense from a business perspective to hold off as much as possible on showing it.

    • @DailyDamage
      @DailyDamage 8 месяцев назад

      @@nbucwa6621 I can understand that. If they bring out a 13 version then follow up with what we actually want to see… maybe this could be something that studios take into consideration and plan accordingly, instead of chopping the actual film down to such an extent that it feels like half of the film was missing

    I'm a big fan of zack snyder and here is advice for Jaby. Zack said that it was Netflix's idea to have both cuts of rebel moon. The original script was rated R, and he thought Netflix was gonna have him shorten it to a suitable PG-13 movie. But he was surprised when they told him "give us both". This PG-13 version is like an unfinished version. You will get more in R Rated Cut coming soon. They just released PG-13 to get more views. You know the audience will watch R Rated cut more 😂

    It's a Sci-fi fantasy version of the timeless Seven Samurai. I liked it because I love Seven Samurai and the sci-fi fantasy adds a new flavour to the original story. It's entertaining but let's face it in terms of directing Zack Snyder doesn't come close to Akira Kurosawa. Just a reminder for those whon haven't seen 7 samurai: a bunch of rice farmers struggle to hire 7 samurai to defend them against bandits who are after their harvest. They nothing but little rice to spare and hire the fighters . You clearly haven't seen seven samurai made by Akira Kurosawa in 1954 (so 69 years ago). A masterpiece that keeps inspiring to this day and Rebel moon is a proof of that fact. I prefer the original version in terms of filmmaking because it is more than 3 hours long of seemless pure cinema. I never get bored watching it and I have many times. When you feel a 2 hours movie drags along and sometimes feels a bit boring, it means the filmmaking could have been better. Especially if you take a cult masterpiece such as 7 samurai as a reference. Armed with a talented cast and occasionally okay visuals, Rebel Moon doesn't transcend any of its influences, making for a flagrant and pedestrian imitation of better material. This is just a tedious stroll through anything and everything we have seen done better in another sci-fi movie, with no emotional hook or reason to care. Snyder wastes time on stock characters, slow-motion battle sequences, and a lot of plot devices, and not in the good way.
    Even the good actors in this cast are giving bad direction and writing; the most they can do is wooded expressions and bad dialogue. I didn't care about any of the characters; none of them had any development or anything.
    This film obviously hints this was an R-rated film since there’s also an obvious lack of blood from action scenes; something has been held back for a Snyder Cut, an expected element to please the man’s fanboy cult.
    Decent action scenes make Rebel Moon an okay-looking film (the effects were bad), with a paper-thin plot and underdeveloped characters that ultimately cause this film to fall disappointingly flat.
    Snyder needs to stick into directing, he can’t write for shit. This is not good at all. It has plot holes, rushed characters, no emotions, the story is not good, bad acting, bad pacing, pointless slow motion, etc. It’s more of the same with Snyder, a few pretty visuals, horrible writing, and a lot of use of slow motion. Nothing new.

      @@cl4-tpgamingIt's kinda contradictory, but I get it and I agree. The movie has a good story. It's not an original story. It's "The Seven samurai" ...in space, but it's interesting enough. I don't know if Snyder did it intentionally but the structure of the story also felt japonese to me, which: fair play. I liked it. The movie also looked good. The disappointment, for me, comes from the dull fire fights scenes that looked cheep with close-ups of the person firing than close-ups of the other people getting shot instead of wide shots of the shootouts. The tactical positioning of the "trained soldiers" looked bad as well with people forgetting to use cover and ignoring enemies that were right next to them sometimes. Better planning of those scenes would have been nice. Also, the empire army wearing uniforms so closely resembling those worn by the German army in ww2... Not great. Cool story, good characters, great acting from most of the cast, but it looked weirdly cheap, in an expensive way...

    • @cl4-tpgaming

      @@sorinalexandroiu “there’s only seven or eight stories really, we just find new ways of telling them” I don’t know who said that, but it’s true. Plenty of stories have parallels to real world and other stories. The thing is… some are well done, other are this, in my opinion, this was an unenjoyable experience. And I don’t think a directors cut will make it necessarily better, it may flesh things out, but ultimately this movie can be summed up as movies similar to others in Snyders filmography. Disappointedly boring and hollow, but pretty to look at plus you can see the cool ideas and interesting themes; but none of it is backed up, it’s a misshapen bunch of puzzle pieces.

    Jaby's helpful notes to any other filmmaker who might be interested in creating a movie about rebellion or war:
    Note #1. Skip the recruitment scenes. Totally unnecessary and clearly a rip off of ( checks research... ) Lord Of The Rings.
    Note #2. Stay away from different worlds, space or places with sand. Also clearly a rip off of.... Ah yes, Star Wars and Dune ( one of the worst movies/remakes ever made but also too good to be ripped off, I guess )
    Note #3. Dont have important characters die and dont make part one of 2 parts 95% set up for part 2. Thats ridiculous.
    Note #4. Social conformity dictates that all the hate possible must be thrown at Zack Snyder no matter what. For he is the only one who has ever dared to make films inspired by others in his own fashion and must be judged on those crimes.
    Final Note: if you're going to expect someone like Jaby to be unbiased and level headed when reviewing a movie, make sure its not a Zack Snyder movie. Because then you woukd be expecting too much from a shill like Jaby.

      We didn't get any character development for anyone except Kora and that too was not much.

      @XXXINC 9 месяцев назад +1

      @@author.mishra ah yes, it's clearly laid out in simple terms that each of these characters that were recruited had their own personal reasons for wanting to fight the motherworld. • @author.mishra
      @author.mishra 9 месяцев назад +2

      @@XXXINC Again, I'm not saying it's not laid out I'm saying the screenplay and pacing was too fast. It's almost like they wanted this to be just plot beats. But there's barely anything in between those sequences. You get the basic idea of where these people are coming from and why they're there but it's all told to you through some dialogue. The extended cut will probably have same scenes shot and written a bit differently.
      Again, it's not a bad movie. It is just not complete yet.
