Great audio quality, but it's really awkward to use an adapter for PC and not for an specific desk phone lol

Heyho. Nice video and thanks for showing the adapter. However, I hope you can help me since I wasn't able to find any .. really help so far ..
So, we still have deskphones. And will have them for a while (budget for a while is planned otherwise..).
But we also have sometimes Teams Meetings (or zoom etc.) for those people not using headsets, a solution was rather easy. A $25-30 Headset from Logitech etc. will do. However we also have a handful people using headsets (older Plantronic ones) that look identical to yours on the back. 8 Pins etc. so we thought it might be better to find a solution to let those people use the headsets on PC AND deskphones. Plantronic/Poly offers the mda100-qd however that one is for quick disconnect phones / has 4 pins on the front for the headset, not 8. So we can not plugin older headsets.
Are there adapters for that kind of situation? 8pin to 4? Or so?

Hi Frank, first can you confirm what you are trying to do? From what I read, you would like to use your existing headsets to connect to a desk phone (I need know brand/model) and a computer (USB-A or USB-C) for use with UC platforms like Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Cisco Webex, etc. I need to know specific Plantronics headset models. Are they corded or wireless? If corded, do they terminate in a Quick Disconnect (QD)? The MDA 100 QD Series are designed to work with these standard Poly (formerly Plantronics) QD headsets: EncorePro 700 Series (HW710, HW720), EncorePro 500 Series (HW510, HW520, HW530, HW540), SupraPlus Series (HW261, HW261N, HW251, HW251N), Entera (HW111N, HW121N). For further support, I would need to see pictures. Feel free to message me via LinkedIn www.linkedin.com/in/danny-hayasaka/

@@CallOneInc heyho, yep. Deskphone (Poly Plantronics CS540 (C054A) ) currently plugged in to a deskphone via an EHS cable. So no Quick disconnect end. The thought we had was to get a simple adapter (like the MDA100 QD) and that's it. However the CS540 has some "big" cables (8 pins I think?) while the MDA100 only has a small input, roughly half the size, for headphones. A cable of the same size is used between phone + reciever too (and it's possible to plugin the reciever from the phone into the MDA and use it then, at least for phoning. Didn't worked when the switch was set to "PC" although the PC recognized a new plugged in headset.) All the available cables are a bit confusing but I found the APD-80 but I'm not sure if that would do the job then.

@@FrankENFeld-ow6lh there’s an adapter that allows you to connect a Poly CS540 and the other CS500 series headsets to a desk phone and computer. There is the Zoomswitch USB ZMS10 & ZMS20-UC and the MDA100 www.unifiedcommunications.com/documents/pdf/ZMS20UCinstructions-final_high_quality_print.pdf
      www.poly.com/content/dam/plantronics/documents-and-guides/user-guides/mda100-qd-qsg-ug-en.pdf
The telephone interface cable included with CS500 series headsets does have a larger modular port, that connects directly to CS500 base. You can’t use EHS cable if connecting to a switch adapter like Zoomswitch or MDA.
      Hope this helps.

Will that cable work for the voyager desk base as well? I’m using the voyager focus 2 uc.

Hi @narissaa2779! Great question! A beneficial design element Poly | HP uses across all their wireless headsets is the same ports/connections. So, YES, if you have the Poly Voyager Office Base CD (Computer / Desk) you can use the available Poly EHS Cables. Check compatibility of your desk phone via Poly's online compatibility guide or contact an Authorized Poly | HP Reseller. We are a Platinum Poly | HP Partner.

Can this kind of set up be detected by employers through monitoring software? My company is moving away from a Cisco set up to a thin client VoIP system so they are sending us the USB to da85 adapter. I want to use this adapter so I can keep using my Plantronics cs540 wireless headset. I'm worried that the different adapter/headset would be detected by the computer and notify my employer that I'm not using the headset they want me to use (which sucks btw) your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Kosmos2080, this is a loaded question that requires a more in depth conversation and understanding of what monitoring and device management software is being used by your company. Do you know what they use today? For Poly (Plantronics) there is Plantronics Hub and is moving to Poly Lens. However, Cisco has their own device monitoring and management software however it's limited to only Cisco devices. Feel free to DM my LinkedIn www.linkedin.com/in/danny-hayasaka/

Does the combination auf Poly 7220 and APU-76 also work with Microsoft Teams, Webex Teams? I mean, will this also hook up automatically when i am answering a call via softphone on my PC or do i have to hook up in addition manually on the headset?

@@CallOneInc thank you for reply. Does the headset also work without the plantronics hub app? I ask because I am not be able to install foreign apps on my laptop I use for work. So I am only be able to plugin my 7220 to APU-76 via USB to my laptop and use WebEx teams. Hope this will also work.

@@CallOneInc ok. Thank you very much for that information. I also think that it depends on implementation in WebEx teams and Microsoft teams. In our readme for next release there will be an extended implementation for plantronics headsets so I hope that this feature will also be available in near future but for me the most important thing is that the solution with APU 76 works without additional software.
So if I click on the button "accept call" on windows 10 I can use the headset without using any physical buttons on my headset? On my very old plantronics headset I have got the issue that I have to establish the dect connection between headset and station via physical button because the software button "accept call" in teams is not be able to switch dect active and inactive...

@@CallOneInc ok. I think it depends on software. For example in cisco jabber the software itself was able to switch dect on or off in combination with my old plantronics headset. In WebEx teams it did not work anymore.
