Hi aaron and claire. I tried your recipe and my chinese friend said that it tasted better than the one she ate in an expensive chinese restaurant. It was deliciously authentic even if i did not use chili oil and sichuan pepper. Thanks so much for sharing your recipe and cooking tips. More power to you.
I did the same thing and my Chinese friend said it was the best thing ever in the whole history of the universe. I used chili oil and sichuan pepper. I also added taco bell sauce and some leftover tacos, I blended them into a sauce and added that. Really delicious!
I love how Claire is more vocal and expressive re dishes than she was in the early videos. She really gives honest opinions re taste, appearance, feel, what’s perfect & what could be improved by another ingredient, etc. And with such intelligence & fun. Aaron is such a talented & knowledgeable chef. I’ve learned SO much from him. but I really love that Claire’s tastebuds & non-chef thoughts now add so much to the recipes. You are a perfect recipe pair - great couple chemistry & sense of humour... :)
@@tasty8186 ikr!? 😂 I really love their culture! It amazes me! I'm From South Carolina and grew up on Southern cooking. It gets old over time. I'd love to venture out and try new things.
This is what I like about this channel, Aaron giving us options & alternatives when it comes to ingredients since most of us don’t have access to some Asian ingredients
@@AaronandClaire 방금 요리했습니다. 너무 맛있어요. I substituted that fancy spice with 고주가루 and chilli oil with scotch bonnet pepper + oil, minced meat with minced soya(Vegetarian problems🤣) and was still like 대박! 😂 맛있는 너무 감사합니다!!!!!
I look forward to your videos every week. As someone who is Chinese and never made mapo tofu thank you for the video :) I will try it for lunch one day when my kids are at school.
Just made this recipe for the first time. It’s the best mapo tofu I’ve ever eaten however it was not 10 mins. It took my son and I cooking quickly together about 45 minutes with all the prep work including crushing my own Sichuan peppercorns. And holy moly so many ingredients! But in the end it was all worth it. So amazing!!! My boys loved it. Thank you for this amazing recipe.
Lol Don't worry about it! I'm not responsible! It's gonna be good! 😂🤣 I love it!! I always have to giggle when I watch Aaron cooking and Clare is really enjoying what ever Aaron cooks ❤️ that's so nice 🤗
Since watching your videos, I have bought more green onion, soy sauce, sesame oil, and oyster sauce than ever before! Am I the only one? And how cute is Clare? She has goosebumps because it is so delicious! Lol:-)
Usually I am afraid to use soft tofu because I usually end up braking it. But I think I can be a bit more confident using soft tofu now that Aaron has given me these helpful tips!
So here I am. After I got all of the ingredience, I did manage to make this beautifull dish. The family was happy. Thanks for the recipe. I will be sure to make more.
Aaron, i bought for the first time tofu..i tasted...it's not something usual to me...then i come to you master and made your recipe. It's just amazing !!!! Omg the explosion of flavors , it's just sooooo good!! Aaron, you are simply the best^^ I love you !!!
@Aaron and Claire! You guys have much better recipes than Mangchi and Seonkyoung Longest. I've tried a bunch of your recipes and compared to other ones on RUclips they always taste the best. Thanks for all the great recipes!
I am here for your encouragement and „don’t worry about it” ❤️ I won’t recreate this recipe because I don’t eat meat and can’t do spicy food (I literally almost cried in a restaurant in Korea) but I’m here for your vibe.
My husband and I absolutely love you guys!!! We wish we could watch you all the time! We’ve tried so many recipes, and we love them all! Thank you for your great videos, and your entertaining personalities! ❤️
This is one of those things I've always wanted to try along with spicy noodles, but never found an accessible recipe. Thank you so much. I can't wait to give it a shot. The tip to help with the silken tofu is another huge thing I didn't know I needed to be able to set my fear of working with it aside.
You are very welcome! Hope you like it! 😁🙏 For your information, silken tofu(순두부) is more breakable than soft tofu(연두부), so if you can get one, try it with soft tofu! 😊
That was fantastic to watch, can't wait to make it, and Claire you are gorgeous! You should be a professional food critic! You're a natural at it! 🥰🌺🍛🥢💖🌸🙏🙏🙏
I've always been afraid to work with tofu because I did not know how to cook it you made it look so simple I will definitely do it you guys are awesome love your channel keep up the good work
I truly appreciate all Aaron's little tips to make impressive cooking/dishes that are simple for the cook, but really impressive for the "taste-testers" (aka, my husband XD)
FYI if you don't have Mirin or Chinese wine, Sherry wine is a decent substitute. It is relatively inexpensive in the US and will keep a long time ( a year) in a cabinet. I will be trying your great recipe soon!
I wish I had a restaurant that served food like this within a hundred miles of me lol..I live in the middle of nowhere and this good food always leaves me starving haha. Another great video!

I have not tried this recipe yet and I already know this recipe is good. I have been making mapo tofu for years and I learned a bunch of great tips from this video. Thank you Aaron!
Tried this today and it was so good! Only mistake I made was adding too much starch bc I wasn’t patient enough when waiting for the sauce to thicken 😅 flavors were still amazing!
I made this last night and it was SO good, even though I didn't have all the ingredients! The green onions really help lol! Thank you Aaron and Claire! Love from Canada :)
I can’t wait to try this 😃😃 it looks delicious 🥰 I’ve noticed a few comments about tshirts 😃😃 I would get them, especially ‘more green onion, more delicious’ 😃😃👍👍
Very nicely done Aaron! Chinese takeout places don’t do this dish any justice, but your version looks packed with flavor...the expression on Claire’s face says it all! 👏🏼
I had a lot of pressure making this recipe as we are big fans of Mapo tofu from a delicious restaurant here in Montréal Canada. My teenager is sooooooo picky with food, I was afraid of his reaction! Everyone loved it even better than the one we love at the restaurant!! I didn’t have the spicy oil or the pepper flakes but like you said, I didn’t worry about it and it was absolutely delicious 😋 Merci beaucoup 🤩
