But Tom I think perhaps we're missing something in the discussion here...that something being is there a potential coming up soon, if MCL upgrades show themselves to be for real this weekend, and FER upgrades launch them straight up there too...that we might actually have to start considering Verstappen w/ MCL and FER constructors as the new template build? Because of the top 3 teams RB, MCL, & FER...checo is arguably the worst driver...and it wouldn't even be arguably if Piastri learned to stop shaving his tyres bald at every given opportunity...so if those 3 teams were to potentially show signs of convergence this weekend...it could be signs of something...dot dot dots for dramatic effect...
That team structure has potential but dropping RED as a constructor will require MCL and FER to be truly immense! RED pit stops are worth an easy 10-15 pts a race at the moment and Max's consistency and dominance over the past couple of years will have to be seriously challenged (remember Max is also getting upgrade this weekend). I like your thinking ahead but I personally need to see more evidence first. Of course, that build is slightly better for budget too as we can drop tier A RED and possibly gain a lucky budget rise with MCL or FER

So let's say MCL is clearly #2 and Ferrari close behind going forward and close enough to RBR to consistently beat Perez but always be behind Max. Is have a constructor that finishes races in positions 2&3 (MCL) + 4&5 (FER) in fantasy points theory better than having 1 & 6 (RBR) and FER (4&5). Like how much does first a place Max make up for sixth or 5th place Perez. Because also having MCL + FER with the budget potential might open you to have Max + another less budget driver like Alonso or something versus Max + 4 budget drivers with the current build...and that's where things can get interesting. So I'm not saying for right now in this moment per se...but it might something in the future?
In terms of format, only comment is as the season goes on the viewers' budgets will start diverging more so perhaps worth discussing viable teams for those with low / med and high budgets.
Argh, caught those NOR and MCL DNFs in my limitless team! Both of these first two sprints have been shockers for me, oh well. 10.8k global rank, got some work to do. My team is PER - TSU - RIC - MAG - HUL - RBR - FER with 109.5M total team value and 2 free transfers going into Imola. My plan is PER to LEC and roll the other transfer, those Ferrari upgrades sound very strong! Otherwise, I'll probably drop MAG to ZHO (or RIC to GAS if Haas look really quick) to upgrade PER to NOR. I could also wildcard to get VER - HUL - ZHO - BOT - SAR - RBR - FER, but not too keen on that going into a few non-sprint weekends.
Thanks for sharing your views! I like the potential switch to LEC if FER look strong. I'm still holding out hope that NOR lights things up as I can then hold him rather than making a transfer! I think Imola will be good for MCL...

I’m waiting for practice sessions to make my decision but gotta say I ran VER build at Miami with SER on my team and -10 for extra transfer and it was still worth it in terms of points so if Max tops every session I may not be making any transfers at all this weekend

Thanks for the video Tom! Really like the new segment on looking at specific drivers / assets in detail. Hadn't realised that SAR has so many positions gained, NOR worst for overtakes, very helpful! My thinking for Imola is the same as yours, if RED, VER look the best in the FPs I'll move to VER build. I'm worried I'll get priced out of that build, so if it seems right, I'll move to that. If unclear then a tough decision, prob RED, FER, LEC/NOR base. If that team then I'm def moving away from STR. He's only got 10 points all season, which is dreadful for being in the 4th/5th fastest car!! STR for budget building hasn't actually been better than other drivers, think better to play the budget driver lottery on better, cheaper drivers.
Yeah, STR is unbelievably frustrating! He will have the odd good race where he will gain 1m but I'm not sure it's worth it for the DNF risk and general bad driving. Who would you choose between Magnussen and Gasly? The rest of the team I’m looking at is VER / HUL / ZHO / SAR / RED / FER. As I can afford some better budget drivers, I don’t think it makes sense to build a team without Verstappen
I have have both Magnussen and Gasly in my team and, surprisingly, Gasly has been the better investment. I chose him reluctantly as he was one of my worst choices last season.
Right now, GAS. Mag driving a bit hot headed (though he's gotta calm down soon, right!). He's also close to a race ban with a couple more penalty points. GAS has impressed in fantasy the last couple of races and right now, I trust him more. That said, Haas upgrades could swing it back in KMags favour!

This is a concern I have with SAR given that would then require a transfer to move to his replacement or another driver. But think it's a while off, tbc if Antonelli gets a super licence and think that can only happen later in the year (after August?) More likely changes needed sooner for MAG if/when he gets a race ban. Two changes needed in that case to take MAG out, put back in again. Could of course just leave "ghost" MAG in teams for that one race
In a similar spot here. My current team is Sainzx2, stroll, yuki, kmag, and hulk, Ferrari/RED and had been going for budget the first chunk of the season, im at 110.4. Thinking of taking a -10 to get to Verstappen, bottas, sargeant, and keeping kmag/hulk. Also got to see my first live race in miami which was a blast, and as probably the biggest Sargeant supporter in the States I love his fantasy upside rn

Super episode Tom and i love the new segment; please consider keeping it. You might have convinced me that our aversion to Logan is colored more by last year than this year. So this whole "waiting for Max" thing started with us going limitless in China when we both could have afforded him then. Obviously we both took a punt on Lando and I would like some violins as 5 minutes before the deadline I played the WC so I could get a team riddled by DNFs. ( I lost 86 points I believe from the team i should have kept. Anyway...yeah the budget building has ben so random that some gys are at 13 million by pure luck ...or higher. Unless FER looks insane then i'll take a -10 just to get Max and the 4 cheapest drivers. it's literally all I can afford now. Quite frustrating. Onwards and Upward!
