100% Agreed - There needs to be a full time crew of NCAA (not conference employed) Officiating crews. They need to be training in the off season, and getting paid well to do things right. Hell pay them better than NFL crews - then fine the CRAP out of them if they make significant mistakes. I'm not a college football rules expert, but I am a TRAINING expert, and I'd love to be a part of the solution. Call NCAA. If not me, then someone more qualified - which wouldn't be hard to find.
Not fines necessarily, but game-by-game performance evaluations. You get demerits or something, and if your evaluations are poor, you get more training, and if they stay poor, you get sh*t-canned. I think there's plenty of money for ~$160k salaries. Make it a desirable job, generous time off, livable salary -- so that it's highly competitive, and you can demand excellence.
AP underrated Boise St, imo. It's not just that their only loss is to Oregon, but Ashton Jeanty is probably the best running back in the nation with around 1500 yards already this season and averaging almost 10 ypc. Boise St should be knocking on the door of the top 10.
On a neutral site, GA absolutely decimates Texas💯 The officiating was BLATANTLY biased, every time a texas player took a hard, legal hit, the refs were tossing our players as fast as they could! Marvin Harrison got hit a hell of lot harder than any of the texas players, and the correct call was made. In Atlanta, we don’t have to hug them and delicately lay them on the grass to constitute a legal tackle. Texas had 1 legitimate td that wasn’t assisted by false penalties, and everybody knows it. I truly hope we play them again, next time we’re knocking their damn heads off💯💯
Texas has been very consistent this season and GA very inconsistent but I would never bet against my Dawgs. The last three years GA has had the ability to win every game if they played to their standard. The problem this season has been consistency. We saw flashes of elite play but not for the whole game. Every game has been ours to lose and the Alabama game proved that. Texas seemed to have motivated the Dawgs to play better as a team so hopefully they just keep improving now. My biggest wish is to see them play to their potential for the whole game on offense and defense. GO DAWGS!!!
It is amazing how doing something, even tangentially, changes your perspective. About 15 years ago, my older son started on a club swim team. They needed officials, so I took the training and started doing it and have for the last decade and a half. I half never officiated football, so I am just guessing here. However, I have officiated swim events at the national level. I have not had to do this at the national level, but I have at multi state events. And that is raise my hand because in the bang bang of multiple swimmers coming into the wall for a turn, I thought I saw an infraction. In a perfect world, you would have enough officials to have one per lane. Raising the hand is the equivalent of throwing the flag. And much like what happens in football, a Cheif Judge comes to discuss with you what you saw. I like to CJ it is kind of a mentor job, especially for newer officials. They tell me what heat, lane, and swimmer and then what they saw. One hand touch, they may say. Which hand, I ask? Right. Where was the left? If they are unable to answer, no call. If they seem unsure, I may follow up with more questions. I may write up the DQ slip, but when I take it to the Deck Ref I may express my concerns and not recommend the Ref accept it. I used to wonder what the officials huddled up about, and I imagine it is this. As a CJ I may see the infraction, but I can't call it. If the Stroke and Turn Judge misses it, I can go over and talk to them about it, but if the hand doesn't go up, it is ONLY conversation. They can't raise their hand after the fact. So, I have a bit more sympathy as to why he might have thrown the flag. I agree with you though, that more training and making it a regular job would help.
The Oregon vs Purdue game won't be remembered by many.. but for those of us who were there, we will remember Oregon being dominant, Purdue having zero defense, and above all... Purdue's HC not having any balls on fourth down.
Love when people use the "Big time players step up in big time games" when that's a Miami phrase, coined by the legendary Santana Moss. Internet says Clint Lamb is attributed with the phrase but Clint Lamb wasn't even alive when Santana Moss was being scouted by Miami.

I was so mad at Nico in the first half of that Bama game. I keep reminding myself he's a freshman but damn we left three touchdowns on the board in that first half because of overthrows. But then that second half happens. Not only does Dylan Sampson(MVP) take over, but Nico hits a few throws that give me hope for the future. And receivers made a few clutch catches that weren't dropped!!! Regardless of what happens along the way we beat Bama!!!!! And Nico was a factor in that.
Indiana has been disrespected by Vegas all year which has helped me pay rent. Same with Army and Navy.. and UNLV. That Army Navy game is going to be must watch this year.

I'm 8 minutes in, his breakdown is a lot more about Texas than Georgia, even his intro was more about Bama losing than Tennessee winning. I think OP is correct
@@boybrushedred18 The intros talk about the main contributors to the outcome of the games. Also, the questions was whether he talked first about winners, not more about winners. Late to the party but as a Florida fan, I was really struggling to see how that one Jadan Baugh TD was upheld. There is no way an official on that field could have seen what happened, and the replay could not, indisputably, confirm or deny. I really think they made that call because the stadium lights went out to celebrate a touchdown and the refs just went with it. And therein lies the problem: they made the call, and as the rules go, you have to have indisputable evidence to overturn a call. Now you’re stuck with the bad call. If I’m being honest, unless I’m blind, Jadan Baugh should have only been credited for 4 TDs last night.
“put their arms behind their back, and just stick their face in there, eyes wide open” with NO immunity? 🤔 🤣 I was waiting for him to say it.. for him to double down with “that’s why your paid” 😅
Josh, we need to start talking about Jermod McCoy more now. Shut Williams down. The one touchdown Williams had, McCoy played it as good as you can. I think Tennessee's secondary should be getting credit as good now
I’m curious mr pate, do you still believe in Allen deboer at Alabama ?? Cause there’s def a coaching problem on top of all the other problems at bama. I wasn’t a believer in a coach who’s never coached in the sec having an issue coaching in the sec but I’m started to wonder if maybe that is part of the problem cause deboer doesn’t look like he’s in full control of that team and seems like maybe he’s a little surprised by the competition, but I could be completely wrong on that.
But winning it all last year sure takes the majority of the sting out of it. Rebuilds sucks, but they’re a lot easier coming off national championships
I watch the Georgia Texas game it wasn't a joke. I mean they were three helmet to helmet and 2 were call. They miss one offsides that might have happen to me it was perfectly time in the third quarter. Of course that worse call they got wrong and then the fans got mad threw trash guess what they got it right. However you say that but i am going to assume you can't tell me a bad call in the game.

They played Nebraska, dude chill, nobody cares till they actually play somebody.
So you just don’t pay attention? Talk with your views pal. Go watch those segments then and he will do more of it
Bc he knows his audience. Guarantee there are far more AU/Mizzou fans here than IU/Nebraska
Nebraska stink, nothing result
Love the extended episode
Incredible Scott’s Tots reference
Mykel Williams is so tough cuz he grew up eating off the big red rocking chair at Country's.
That’s what PED’s will do for ya
100% Agreed - There needs to be a full time crew of NCAA (not conference employed) Officiating crews. They need to be training in the off season, and getting paid well to do things right. Hell pay them better than NFL crews - then fine the CRAP out of them if they make significant mistakes. I'm not a college football rules expert, but I am a TRAINING expert, and I'd love to be a part of the solution. Call NCAA. If not me, then someone more qualified - which wouldn't be hard to find.
I agree
Also make them do live press conferences. If a 18 year old has to talk to media then the 55 year old guy who screwed him over can as well.
@@cacogenicist I'm sticking to keeping fines in, but it has to be reasonable, like no more than 2k per game or something.
Two great choices and games for you to travel to this week! What a job/dream!
Best season ever
One for the history books.
I truly hope we play them again, next time we’re knocking their damn heads off💯💯
Hey Texas, do you prefer your ass whooping Horns Down Spurs Up or Dawgy Style next time?
What in the Brokeback Mountain is this comment
Oh my gosh you are so funny
@@b-rad8715 with an extra side of dawg drool

A little prison humor
Talked about Georgia and Texas for 30 minutes and the SEC for the first 45. He's not biased at all folks. Not one single bit.
It’s a good sight when the field storming is started by recruits. That game will help Tennessee with these next couple classes tremendously 🍊🍊
This season is literally 1984 (the football season)
Politics are in 1984 too.
Congrats on 300K Josh!!
"mama told me yall say roll tide because you cant spell elephant" best sign of the week from gameday
Still a huge fan of all things Josh Pate
The Oregon vs Purdue game won't be remembered by many.. but for those of us who were there, we will remember Oregon being dominant, Purdue having zero defense, and above all... Purdue's HC not having any balls on fourth down.
Love when people use the "Big time players step up in big time games" when that's a Miami phrase, coined by the legendary Santana Moss. Internet says Clint Lamb is attributed with the phrase but Clint Lamb wasn't even alive when Santana Moss was being scouted by Miami.
I’m just so glad Texas lost. They were never the best team in the country and I got in so many arguments about it. Georgia was clearly better and has been the entire time. Also, I’m a BAMA fan so don’t think I’m rooting for Georgia often but I was in that game!!
Josh, you had that wrong about LSU favored in all their games. They are +3 this week at A&M.
Love the show.
Kudos on the Parris Island reference 😎
Love the show Josh. I picked UGA on my podcast
Indiana has been disrespected by Vegas all year which has helped me pay rent. Same with Army and Navy.. and UNLV. That Army Navy game is going to be must watch this year.
Always is, but the fact they both have a zero in the loss column is awesome! Happy for their programs
when teams are bad year in and year out its easy to think they’ll continue to be bad.. the disrespect is warranted until proven otherwise… Army, Navy and Indiana are showing everyone where they belong.
cant be ass all the time and expect early rankings to reflect top 10- top 20… gotta earn your way into the conversation. there is a reason, outside of talent and coaching, that georgia, ohio st and all those big boys are always given the benefit of the doubt. CAUSE EVERY YEAR THEYRE IN THE CONVERSATION OF BEING THE BEST
The fact josh didnt talk about missou is insane! What a game
not trying to reference one call in particular, but we most definitely still have a officiating issue. They change the outcomes of multiple games every weekend.
LSU did have a 3-0 margin in turnovers. Rare, rare, rare oversight from my man, Josh!
USC should fire Lincoln Riley and he already has the perfect landing spot open for him: OC at Oklahoma.
The Sarah McLaughlin special being played for Texas is just salt in their wounds. And I love it
I can hear the Pace Salsa commercial: “New York City?!”
Shoutout to Salem, Oregon!
Been a subscriber since August of 2021 back when you had probably 30-40k subs.. Jp has come a long way. I will say however I miss when Jp was too cool for the Ap on his show😔
Love how Josh often mentions “we always talk about the winners first on this show,” then rarely ever actually does. Especially if it’s about a game where a big market team lost to a school with a smaller fanbase
Rarely? Really? He may mention the loser first, but what he is saying is that he breaks down the winner's performance first, the the loser's
I'm 8 minutes in, his breakdown is a lot more about Texas than Georgia, even his intro was more about Bama losing than Tennessee winning. I think OP is correct
@@boybrushedred18I thought the same thing. His Georgia segment had a lot of Texas focus on it
I would say rewatch- he praised Georgia galore and couldn’t have given more credit without redundancy.
@@boybrushedred18 The intros talk about the main contributors to the outcome of the games. Also, the questions was whether he talked first about winners, not more about winners. Again, he gives an intro to the segment, which talks about both teams and highlights what the main reasons were for the outcome of the game. He then starts the breakdown with the winners, then breaks down the losers.
1:05:14 they’ve lock down when they have to. Add that they’re missing their best cb and Bain just coming back.
I agree with every word about officiating. It threatens to ruin one of the best games humans have ever invented.
Use your platform call for a replay review call reviews can only last one minute if not play stands
UT fan here, Georgia defense was insane last night. Hope it’s a good wake up call for our offense and hope we see them later in the season
Vanderbilt next. good luck trying to bottle up Diego Piava
@@Nowledgeman thought this meant Texas
UT? You mean Texas or UTA?
lmao you got fucking destroyed it wasn’t even close. Texas isn’t SEC ready
UT in the SEC IS TENNESSEE.. Texas is Texas. just stop
G5 Josh is back!!
I would take Indianna over fellow undefeated teams Iowa State and BYU..maybe even over Miami
Smu is a sleeping giant in the ACC, plenty of money and a great coach!
As a Texas fan, we needed this. We’ll bounce back (at least I hope). Something ain’t right with Quinn, whether it’s physical or mental. Defense did everything they could, and our offense let them down.
Something aint right with Quinn? Show me a quarterback that looks great when he has 2 seconds to run through 2 progressions if that. They got whooped all game up front. They lived in the backfield go back and watch every texas snap in the first half then go watch georgia's o line run blocking. 2 different levels of team
This isn’t the big 12 anymore you don’t just bounce back even the bottom can take a piece out of you.
lol welcome to the SEC, first real team y’all play.
y’all have a long road.
@@bgoat97Can't wait for the post season and SEC fans being forced to admit that the SEC ain't the SEC this year. The SEC's best isn't good enough this year.
You know exactly what you meant, you’re just obfuscating. The Crain & Co. video is perfectly clear. It’s ok to be wrong, we all have been. Some of us are capable of admitting it.
This ain’t the first time, he needs a whole segment just to apologize 😂
As a bama fan, I have no idea what is going on.
Neither does the coach, lol!
It’s just year one of a new coach you’ll bounce back you can come back to this comment in 2025
Even 5 turnovers doesn't seem to tell the story as to how Nebraska lost by 49.
How many cases of water can a fan bring into the stadium to throw if we don't like the officiating? Are golf balls and mustard bottles still allowed?
Sarah played on the ACL PBS show but not at the fewtival to my knowledge.
Oregon is #1!! SCO DUCKS 🦆
I saw you up there at Neyland stadium lol I was like “who dat” lol
Your Texas love has landed you this year Josh... How are you going to Vandy, Texas instead of LSU, A&M top of the SEC conference clash in Kyle at night!? Also.. LSU is in fact, not the favorite to win that game
Duck fan, I hate Miami because of Cristobal, I love seeing him lose, but I’m kinda intrigued by the possibility we could play them in the playoffs. We’re pretty good against coached who leave, ask chip Kelley.
Just wait until Ward and Restrepo leave, and reality will set in on Cristobal at UM. Mediocrity at this time next year, bookmark it. Would love to see the match up this year and y’all smoke them
NIL has really evened the playing field since players can now be bought in a way.
Coaches should be able to have challenges to a certain number of foul calls. At least 2.
Josh, we need to start talking about Jermod McCoy more now. Shut Williams down. The one touchdown Williams had, McCoy played it as good as you can. I think Tennessee's secondary should be getting credit as good now
As a Notre Dame fan
... Between our injuries and Indiana's performance, IU should be ahead of us and BYU
I’m an Aggie and had a wedding full of longhorn grads on Saturday. It was beautiful
Alrught whats the over and under for how long he will talk about the AMAZING atmosphere in Tennessee? 10 or 15 minutes?
In the CFL if a player goes down for injury he has to sit out for at least 3 plays. Is it the same in CFB?
Bad officiating across the board. This really needs to be addressed ASAP!
Boise state baby!!!! I love ashton jeanty
As a Michigan fan all my life, that was the first game I had to shut off and stop watching. That offense is PUTRID. Absolutely unacceptable.
But winning it all last year sure takes the majority of the sting out of it. Rebuilds sucks, but they’re a lot easier coming off national championships
@@AlaskaDuckDynasty amen to that 🙏
“Looked like an STD more than a school” is the craziest insult I’ve ever heard about IUP
SEC has to fix their officiating crews. Georgia-Texas and Tenn-Alabama were an embarrassment
And I know I'm biased but the A&M Mississippi game was crazy as well... though not as egregious as the call/reversal in tu UGA
So bad.
@@callumengland6395 how is the call bad they literally made a bad call reversed the bad call and got it right.
When the ADs grow a set and decide that they will publically speak out against blatant calls and name the officials who were at fault, then you .ay see change.
The UGA AD should protect Smart and promise that any fine levied for his public criticism will not be withheld from his paycheck.
Josh you cannot crown teams like Texas before they play LEGIT competition.
So if at the end of the season UGA, Texas, TAMU and LSU are all 7-1 with UGA>Texas>TAMU>LSU I guess that gets UGA and Texas in or am I missing something?
seems like you gotta win out to get in amongst those four, UT, Mizzou, and Vandy, but idk about that happening for the other three.
Well Josh I'm no longer cautiously optimistic but it's still roll Tide baby
