?????? How do you combat the negativity and the self deception of the addict????? My friend, who is addicted to alcohol, is very negative about everything and wants to be in crisis mode all the time so that he can have an excuse to drink more. How do you combat his type of thinking and let the addict see a more realistic picture of life and the need to stop drinking to get out of crisis mode?

I’m 73 and can’t even bear talking with my 42 year old addict daughter on the phone. I feel sick and don’t know how to get over this feeling.

Is there any hope for a relationship where there has been alot of gaslighting around an addiction?

How do you help them see their own deception?
They know. They're masters of manipulation. Not stupid.
The most helpful thing is to step out of the way so they have to pay attention to their own behaviors instead of focusing on others.
We have a property manager who is likely an alcoholic. She parties with tenants who have addiction and severe mental health issues. One died. The company does nothing to stop it bc this person is highly manipulative. She is unstable and pounded on my door "like an animal" for two hours. Still nothing is done. The level of corporate enabling is astounding. In fact they gave her employee of the year!
Assume they are luing or manipulating. If they are in active addiction. Assume you are if you are codependent. Powerful thing to do is ask "what could I be lying to myself about?"

What about those who use addiction to make themselves comfortable because of diagnosed psychiatric disorder.
They never line up. So what can you do but wait for them to show up destroyed?

What can I say to my son that is in jail that is positive to begin building trust. He is suffering real life consequences we hope to move him to rehab after this

My hubby cuss me out today and he drinking and yeah 👍🏾 and we marriage but separated!
Go Suboxone instead of methadone. However, both tough to get off of. However, should not act like addict as it is way different. You don't feel it at all. or get high unless doing wrong and not following directions. Dont even know on it until its wears off. Then you have a week or so to power through some of the anxiety but much better than sick as heck.
Do you have an experience with addiction to taking loans from shark lenders with an interest rate of about 10% per month...
