Just seen this, and it's a fantastic recreation of the original killer solo by Leslie West! Leslie wasn't traveling in the dark here, he was on fire! Kinda blew my mind when i read that Felix used to make Leslie play a whole mess of riffs for any particular solo, and then he would instruct Leslie to piece them all together to make the perfect solo for the track. Which explains perfectly this particular masterpiece of a lead solo by West. Jimi wanted Felix to produce an album by Pappalardi, but unfortunately it wasn't to be with Hendrix's unfortunate & untimely demise. Thanks Again Luca, You did Leslie in fine style. *R.i.P.* Pappalardi~Knight~West. *P.s. I remember reading an article around 1971 in Creem rag/mag. Jeff Beck had just seen Mountain in England during the 1971 'Flowers Of Evil' tour. After Beck witnessed the show, he must have been tremendously moved by Leslie, and stated in the interview that..."Leslie West was the Greatest Guitarist in the World". But, the old joke was, the Greatest Guitarist in the World, over 300 pounds. **Who makes the Guitar you're using?
Very nicely done! This is my favorite solo from Leslie. He will be greatly missed by those of us who favor melody and feel over the million-notes-per-minute approach to guitar solos. RIP to the Mountain.
In my 20s this was my go to album, and this was my go to song. Mountain would come to Boulder CO and just play for all of us. Enough listens to know the content and expressions. fingering at 0.43 -- Leslie would be smiling. Nice work Luca. Really nice.
This solo from the album with the same name was second only to his solo in Theme For An Imaginary Western. But not by much. I love to whistle his solos and I prided myself being able to whistle them note for note for many years. In spite of the worlds faster more popular players Leslie will always be in my all time favorite rock guitar gods list for me. Thank you for making this video. Brought back a lot of great old painful memories.
amazing tone & Leslie bends - your intonation & execution are flawless & truly faithful - Leslie would have wholeheartedly approved - what kind of rig are you using ?
Beautiful tone and masterful finger vibrato. Do you perchance use 009. gauge strings on the top three ala Leslie? Your bends look so effortless I just wondered if your string set was a hybrid.
