I have two jbl partybox 1000's and didn't hear nothing at 10hz so I turned the volume up all the way suddenly I thought an earthquake was happening. I hope my neighbours didn't panic too much.
this probably won't be seen by him, but to answer Rodolfos question, its because when a speaker or a headphone gets to the extreme ends of its limit it stresses and wears it out and causes audio distortion. if say you had headphones or a phone mic that went to exactly 40hz then it would start being distorted and sound bad around 60-80 while also reducing the lifetime of the product. by extending the range down to as low as 5 it keeps 40 well with in the nominal range without audio significant audio distortion or stress. Its kind of like like having a car that can go 120 when all you ever need to go is 70, if only could go 70 you'd be red lining the engine constantly
