We open with the marvel studios logo as silver on Black-which they’ve been doing a lot late;y now, with various properties. Mon Kight, she-hulk, secret invasion, werewolf by night-they have all gotten various title remakes for the trailers.
The next shot is of T'Challa's original Black panther mask, from Captain America: Civil war.--before it was replaced with the vibranium nano tech in Black panther. Shuri is holding the mask at t'challa's funeral procession. Which is probably ceremonial for her to do, as the next of kin. But it could also be sentimental of her, because she worked on so many improvements to her brother’s suit over the years.
Of course this is also foreshadowing the end of the trailer, when we see that Shuri has indeed carried on the black panther mantle form her brother.
Doug: Are we like 100% sure that’s Shuri, and not, like Nakia?
Yeah man, I think so. It’s definitely a woman, she’s got the ceremonial dots on her face that Shuri wore during that combat ceremony, and here’s the poster.
Doug: Oh.
Yeah, more on that later. Ramonda holds onto Shuri, and we can see the Kimoyo beads on her wrist. Angela Bassett is going to have a much larger role in this movie, as Ramonda steps into the role of queen regent, ruling until the new ruler is chosen through ritual combat.
The music in the trailer is Never Forget by Sampa the Great featuring Chef 187 Tio Nasona and Mwanje. The title can be referring to our memory of the late Chadwick Boseman as T’challa, but can also mean the pride of African people. The lyrics speak about how their achievements and movements helped shape society today.
We fade from the funeral of T’Challa, the fallen king, to namor, a king who is on the rise.we learned a lot about Namor in this trailer, and we’re going to break down the meso american gods and symbolism that are being used to define his character.
His origin and story are going to be very different and a little more nuanced in the movie than they are in the comics. In the comics, he’s half human, half Atlantean, can breathe underwater, and leads the technology undersea kingdom of Atlantis.
Doug: Like Aquaman, king of the bro-cean.
Exactly, too much like Aquaman. So this movie has taken that basic premise and applied meso american myths, in the same way that wakanda’s tribes combine different African cultures in the first movie. So in this movie, Namor’s culture is a combination of various civilizations that existed in the region we call meso America, which is composed of central america and a good part of Mexico.

dude thank you for respecting mesoamerican culture and actually doing some research on it, caring to make an effort to pronounce names, and connect it to the mcu and not just dismiss it or get upset at it like 90% of other channels covering this.
It's cool seeing my cultural heritage portrayed in such a cool way. This is what black people felt with the first film and I thank the producers of the film for thinking of us and representation on screen. Gracias amigos! Muy cool!
@@RobertTapia which area/countries is your cultural heritage from? I mean more specifically than saying mesoamerica. Its very fascinating to me
Yeah I always catch myself watching screen crush and going back to other channels to just not be satisfied i.e. new rockstars now
@@GaaraFPS Screen crush and heavy spoilers are the best! 💯
@@RobertTapia I feel the same hermano!
The lines "Only the most broken people can be good leaders", gave me chills, RIP Chadwick Boseman, may your legacy live FOREVER.

Real players never die. RIP Brother
Big shout out to the Canadian Lad for discovering a new hidden Black Panther in the trailer, as Namor slams down his spear. Is this Killmonger resurrected? Let us know! ruclips.net/user/TheCanadianLad
Hey there! Maya archaeologist here! I can clarify some stuff: "k'uk'ulkaan" is the correct pronunciation as Mbaku says. It was a kind of mythological beast more than a god but I get the inspiration. In other hand, the cut-in-half conch shell was tradionally used by mayan scribes (there's an interesting study of a scribes workshop found in Aguateca if I remember correctly)... So that's what is used for the murals Namor is painting. They are not "tattoos", they are an actual writing system, but I'm not sure if what is depicted makes any sense, but they are inspired in actual findings in many sites.
And lastly, sharks are mythical beasts in classical mayan culture, a half snake monster wth one big tooth, the reason of the use of the theeth in burials and caches.
I'll write to you on Tweeter later today!
nerd!!
Thank you for sharing your expertise with us.
Cool
Thank you for sharing!! If one wanted to read about this aspect of the Mayan civilization-what would you recommend?
Thanks so much
I think that’s such a powerful and fitting introduction for Imperious Rex:
“They call him, K’uk’ulkan, the feathered serpent god”.
The actor delivers the line perfectly!
This was my favorite part of the trailer, Mbakus enunciation put respect on his name, perfect execution of dialogue
Another detail that hasn't been brought up since the first trailer is that the Atlanteans only have blue skin when they come out of the water. They have regular human colored skin underwater and Namor is the only one to keep the human skin color when he comes out of the water
Nice one, didn't even notice. It's going to look so good.
Wow I didn't catch that about the skin. Great catch
True that
blue lives matter
Man this has to be your best breakdown so far! The more I hear about Aztec and Mayan history and mythology, the more interested I become in this new take on the Submariner! I hope all of your predictions get confirmed! ❤️🔥
Eh idk, im reserved about the movie. Think that this movie will be 6-7 at best. First one was filled with issues and had the most talent. This one has less talent and with the unfortunate death of Chadwick i doubt it will be better. But i hope im proven wrong.
This is going to be great! I love the re-vamped history of Namor and Atlantis.
Yay, Ryan’s back! That said, the stand-ins did a fantastic job and absolutely kept with the spirit of Screencrush we love.
Yes agree they did a decent job.but Ryan's tone, speed and character breakdowns cannot be replaced . So glad he's back
The expression of you don't know what you have until it's gone really applies to you Ryan thank you for coming back we all miss you it just wasn't the same without you!
And the stand ins did a great job 😊 but there’s only one Ryan ❤🎉
So happy you’re back Ryan! Those who filled in did a fantastic job, but I gotta say, something about your delivery is just unmatched, even for the theories that are way out there!
I love to see people talk about the Mayan mythology, the Greek and Nordic mythos are so popular but the Latin American Culture is very rich and interesting, I hope this movie and videos make more people aware and interested in the Latin Culture
Thanks Ryan and everyone working in this channel for taking the time to explain our culture to everyone watching these videos
As is African cultures and mythologies. We're seeing a small African and Afrofuturist culture/mythology wave in fiction, with some that have TV/movie versions in the works, so I hope that this film increases interest in both African mythologies and Latin mythology. There are entire worlds of possible inspiration.
Why are you calling it Latin Culture? Pre-Hispanic Mayan/Aztec/ (Meso-)American cultures are NOT Latin AT ALL.
I hope Namor represents Atlantean Culture, since he has nothing to do with Latin Culture...
Ryan loves cultures that are more tribal in nature…the way he set up the first movie with all the tribes proves that…he was never gonna do Atlantis, that’s story has been told and honestly it’s boring. This change makes sense and is on brand with his vision.
It’s nice to see non-European cultures get the spotlight. I love Meso-American culture.
I can't get enough of that shot In the trailer when it shows the people of Talocan seeing Namor descending to his throne and it shows the underwater civilization for a moment
It looks beyond epic in scope
Being waiting all day for this breakdown, welcome back Ryan
The Aztec and Mayan culture gives something refreshing for the big screen, I really think it gives some extra to Namor !
Plus, it’s well set up with undermining from below, since they can’t get in Wakanda the official way, „waking up“ the talocans in the process !
Its such a shame we couldn't get more Boseman for his sequels but I'm glad he appeared in a lot before passing.
Your breakdowns are always so in-depth and well put together; great to have you back Ryan.
Love the respect they are showing for Chadwick
*Thats how they drawing us in..*
Thoughtful and insightful breakdown. Thank you Ryan and welcome back!
Fun fact: where the fresh and salt water meet in a cenote it forms a shimmering barrier ( today called a halocline). That shimmering barrier looked like a " portal " and was considered an entrance to the underworld.
Wow, thanks for sharing that.
Who knows how the movie will turn out, but they really nailed Namor’s design and feel in these trailers.
Nailed Namors design? No they didn't, they make him look stupid. His comic look is a better look.

Welcome back Ryan!! 🎉🎉
I am super excited for Namor, looks like they nailed it.
I love the theory that IronHeart MK1 is made of car parts. It's almost like she made it from "A Box OF SCRAPS!".
Welcome Back Ryan, no offense the guys you had on the channel was cool but genuinely glad your back man
As a fellow Ryan, I am very happy you’re back. Hope you had a great vacation!
I love the idea that Namor's kingdom is built around a deposit of either Adamantium or Vibranium and it was in the meteor that killed the dinosaurs.
I like the reveal at the end, I think it is Marvel managing expectations. They see the online feed back and want the fans to be sure they have a sense of the direction they're going in so that those people don't go into the film expecting something other than *this* Black Panther. They stop just short of completely confirming it for anyone watching closer than casual fans and have an opinion about their decision making process.
Welcome back Ryan!! :) Doug did a great job covering while you were away!
Now this is a top tier breakdown! Love the history lesson too
You gotta respect the time and energy that goes into creating such an awesome video. thank you

Hope you had a wonderful holiday. Your substitutes were great (especially Doug), but you were missed. Absolutely wonderful details spotted in this one!
Welcome back! You were missed. Normally, I don’t like to watch MCU trailers bc I don’t wanna ruin the theater experience but I AM SO HYPE FOR BP2!! And this was the perfect video for your return lol.
It is so nice having Ryan back. Your awesome and your theories are some of the best even if they are way out there.
I like his theories, even if they overreach lmao; there are worse MCU theorists XD
@@aaronrivera9828 it's overreached in a good way, he actually has a lot of sources to support his claims and it's just overall really interesting to learn about references this way.
Welcome back Ryan! Good to have ya back 🎉❤
nah he’s racist. he said latinx which is offensive and a racial slur to latinos
The best?? All he does is watch all the other channels, collecting data then re words everything to make it sound like he came up with it
He doesn't actually know anything about half the shit he covers especially anything Game of Thrones
Thank god Ryan is back
Welcome back Ryan!!!!
So glad you’re back Ryan!
Namor: "Only the most broken people can be great leaders"
Had to turn on subtitles as thought he said "grape eaters"
This seems...wrong.
Broken people would tend to be bad leaders. They would seek power to fill the void within themselves, or to get revenge on those that they think broke them.
Yay Ryan is back!
Glad to have you back Ryan🙏🏽🙌🏾👌🏽
I would be *thrilled* if we get Killmonger back. And (though the guest-hosts did do a great job) I'm equally thrilled to see Ryan is back! :D

thanks ryan,, great breakdown
With these trailers, Ryan Coogler has confirmed that he indeed holds the Soul Stone 🙅🏽♂️🖤✊🏽
Glad you’re back!!!
The trailer wants us to think that Shuri is the new Black Panther but if you slow down the trailer it shows at least 2 different Black Panther suits. I'm hoping Nakia is in one of those suits.
Seeing Ramonda in Namors face and hearing her say “Show them who you are at the end”…was a hint imo that she is gonna do just that, The Angela Basset is about to kick a$$ and show why she is the Queen of the most powerful civilization in the world on land or under the sea. Drown these heauxs Ramonda.
Omg just accept it’s shuri
@@khaliq7094 A lot of people don’t want it to be shuri
@@justsomeguywithahat850 yea that’s why studios shouldn’t listen to fans it makes perfect sense for it to be shuri
Why? Nakia is a crappy character. Shuri is a really great character, and i like her. Why are people so interested in Nakia?
The new Black Panther suit looks so cool! The movie looks so cinematic and it pays tribute to Chadwick and T'Challa at the same time! Can't wait!
the movie looks cinematic?
It looks almost exactly the same as Kilmongers
@@GZP1023 ikr the suits all feel pretty much the same
great to have you back ryan, hope you had a good time off!
So great to have you back Ryan! Hope you feel well!
I love how you breakdown everything Marvel, you are my first stop after watch anything Marvel, because I am big fan of your Chanel and the Marvel franchises!
Thanks for the amazing breakdown. 👏
I actually think Nakia would be a better choice for the new Black Panther. I know Shuri is canon in the comics, but Letitia doesn't FEEL like Black Panther to me. Nakia does.
Maybe there won't be one Panther but several.
That's my same thought, Nakia feels like an honorable Black Panther she has the heart and the courage I feel like, at least our MCU Nakia
@@Elvisbackpack Since they revealed Shuri as Panther, seems like a thing to do to keep the surprises coming. Or maybe not pathers but everyone getting upgrades.
I totally disagree. The rightful path is Shuri's and I can't think of a better person.
@@aliciasoul Black panther is a strategist and warrior at the core. Shuri is not built like a warrior and you can't convince me she gained all the firepower in the span of 1-2 years, enough to become the black panther. Nakia is the obvious choice to take up the mantle. I love Shuri and Letita for her portrayal, but no, she won't be a good BP
Welcome back Ryan! Sounds like you did some quality research. Great job.
So glad to have you back, Ryan :)
I have a feeling the Eternals will be hinted that in this, especially with Namor and his civilization
Ironheart: "LET'S GO!!!"
So glad Ryan is back!!!
We missed you Ryan! And definitely noticed you were gone :) Welcome back and great video as usual.
I hope you had a great time in Italy! Colton did a great job but you were missed
And also the conch shell cut in half showing a spiral is a cool reference to at least a couple things, the "caracol" or conch shell is a symbol associated to Quetzalcoatl, god of wind(among other things) the spiral and the sound the conch shell makes is associated to wind, also next to the pyramid of Chichen Itza there is an ancient mayan observatory called "el caracol "
Good to have you back Ryan
Dude so good to have you back. Finally!!!! Yes!!!!
I think Attuma plays a big role. In toys, his parts are spread among the others. ie Black Panther, Hatut Zeraze (appears like the white wolf character in comics), blue/green armor Nakia, Everette Ross, Namor and Okoya.
For Black Panther 1, the BAF (build-a-figure) was M'Baku! Usually the just save it for the biggest character in terms of size. I think Korg was another for Thor 3. He will definitely get some decent screentime.
I was hoping for Nakia too
Welcome back Ryan!!
Good to see Ryan back we missed man hope you did have a nice vacation.
I'm really hoping they show the complexities of namor as a character how he is not a clear cut hero or villain.
I knew there were gonna be R.I.P's to Chadwick Boseman in the comments section.
Glad you are back! Hope you had fun on your vacation(:
yeeeeeeeeeaaaaah! Great to have you back Ryan!
I was still holding out hope that Nakia would be the new Black Panther. Namor looks great. Gonna be a great film.
You can see The New Black Panther (Shuri) in the background @18:36 - 18:41.
I can't wait until Nov 10 (bought early tickets today). My friends and I will be wearing all white for the cinematic send-off of T'Challah / Chadwick Boseman.
Probably Attuma.
Welcome back Ryan !
Welcome back hope you enjoyed your vacation. Great breakdown.
I think Namor is making Ramonda say something to the other nations on behalf of his people in the meetings she's in.
Because they keep showing scenes of him taking to her. Maybe using her to send a warning.
I really just wanted T'Challa to be recasted, I don't hate Shuri taking up the mantle and we all know it is on the comics as well but there's a lot of story that needs to be told in T'Challa's character.. but definitely I will still watch this movie 💙
Wont recast T'challa but its ok to recast Thunderbolt Ross. Pretty racist
@@GZP1023 who is thunderbolt Ross
@@leandraleo281 search it, he is the actor in incredible hulk and in black widow with a white moustache

Welcome back. Was waiting on this breakdown!
Ryan!!! You're back. I missed you and hope you had fun in Italy. Another great video
It would be awesome if they factor in the snaps to the arrival of the Mutants in the MCU. The first and second snap were filled with most Gamma radiation, as per the Hulk in Endgame. So, the entire MCU was exposed to this radiation, but mostly those that blipped and then returned.
What if those that were blipped were either turned into Mutants or had fell ill due to the radiation from the snap.
Certain members of humanity always had the x-gene within the comics, so what if the snap had awakened those the X-Gene within these humans, turning them into the Mutants. Others like Monica Rambeau were unaffected, but have the potential to become mutates. A mutate is a human that can have their DNA mutated and possess powers, like Hulk, Captain America, Spider-Man, Captain Marvel, Fantastic Four, Daredevil, etc. Those that have received their powers due to outside forces mutating their DNA to give them powers.
So there are humans that were awakened into Mutants, humans that now have the potential to become Mutates, people that were completely unaffected by the blip and those that become sick.
Jane Foster was blipped, and she had developed cancer after being completely healthy before the Blip.
This could be the reason why Mutants aren't as feared as they normally are in the comics. Superhuman nature has become such a normality in 616 Universe, that no one bats as eye. Until children and other people start to develop dangerous powers, causing calamity around the world that they cannot control.
Factor in that loved ones are getting sick and passing away, the disdain and dislike of Mutants are growing evermore until there are clear war lines drawn between Mutants and Humanity.
That could slowly build up until Phase 7, where we could get an X-Men vs Avengers movie!
Trust, and believe Chadwick Boseman will have a end credit scene not as a character but as himself it's gonna pull on heartstrings 🙏🏽🖤
that would be epic
glad youre back handsome Ryan 😉 great video as Always
Great to have you back, man.
Loved the breakdown and the pointed insights. Shuri seems to be the best choice to follow the lead, and there’s still motives to change the plot going forward. 😎🍷🎬
Namor is usually so stupid but they made him look really badass, I'm excited!

Good to see you back!!!
Really, really, really hoping Killmonger being resurrected theory comes true in the film. Good stuff man. Great info and detail 🔥 🔥 🔥
Shuri is a a great character in the MCU but I 100% would have preferred Nakia as the new Black Panther.
We don't know who's in the suit yet. It looks like Shuri from the comics (Doom War), but it could be Nakia.
Ramonda said her *entire* family was gone, so Shuri might have died.
@@fearElohim34 they would never spoil that in trailer though. Like that would be crazy

My second thought after watching the trailer was, "Oh no, Ryan's on vacation!"

Who do you think the new Black Panther is? Is there more than one?
It’s probably Shuri, just based on how the suit looked
It was great
The New Black Panther is A woman which means it can be either Shuri, Okoye or Nakia but I’m thinking that The black panther might be SHURI 🤷🏾♂️
Shuri, i think t’challa will have a secret son however who’s set up to be the panther of the future
