I was a 50-something menopausal woman. My uterus did not completely clear a late -age period. I required a D&C. Totally unrelated, in my 70s a UTI resulted in sepsis. It was an awful and terrifying experience for me and my husband who thought I was going to die. To do this to a young, healthy woman is nothing less that criminal. I hope someone in TX files charges, suits, or whatever it takes to stop these horrors. All my thoughts go to that 6-year-old child deprived of a loving mother. I am very, very angry and I vote!

The same happened to me when I was 18. It was before Roe v Wade but the doctors then were not threatened by jail for performing a life saving procedure.

My mom had several D&Cs pre Roe, because it was considered health care in those days. In 1968, no one thought anything of it. Miscarriages were considered a medical condition and dealt with accordingly. I am here alive because D&C was legal. I see you Lawerence. Thank you for explaining this so well.
Same. I had a miscarriage & had to have a D & C to remove remaining tissue. After my son was born, I retained some of the placenta which started becoming septic & I developed a bad infection. Fortunately, my mother realized something was wrong & rushed me to the hospital. They did a D & C then too & I was in ICU for almost a week.
I have had four, none abortions. My family has crazy gyno issues. The last was post menopause. A D&C is health care. But they aren't teaching medical students how to perform them.

Any doctor who performed a D&C on that patient would have been immediately fired by the hospital, along with any other staff who helped. Then, they would be prosecuted.

My wife had an ectopic pregnancy and needed an abortion to stop the false pregnancy from kiling her. Abortion was banned in Texas the day of her procedure, and her doctor refused to treat her. I had to put her and my two boys in the car and drove 16 hrs, barely stopping to Colorado to get the procedure done. I will never forget this traumatic experience these fools caused me and my family.

My six year old little girl came home from school yesterday and told me that a boy was telling her that she didn't love America. In a sing songy voice taunting her because he brought up Trump. My little one said that she liked Kamala Harris because she seemed happy and nice. She was also excited that she might be the first female President after being the first female Vice President. All I could do was fight back tears that my six year old who still had over a decade before she can even vote is being harassed and her patriotism questioned because a little boy's parents have already taught him intolerance and hatred. Lawrence I watched this a second time and my emotions match yours. I was as a RN and in the course of time, education through to practice knew that a D&C was not an abortion. I raised that fact each time I’ve heard that lie, here in the US. I had 2 D&Cs because I wanted to get pregnant and had hidden miscarriages. If I had been living in the US, today, in the abortion ban states I could have died trying to get pregnant. My son would never have existed. Just the other day, for the first time, I told my adult son my own story and, as mothers often do, I was shielding him from the details. He asked me what a D&C is. So, knowing that it is time to stop shielding him, in very graphic detail, I told him what happened to me and how I would've died that day had it not been for an emergency D&C. He yelled, "STOP! That's enough!!" At first, I was taken aback by his response and, thinking he didn't want the honest details, I confronted him about silencing me/my truth but he was quick to apologize, not allowing me to finish my push back and told me to continue... and I did... until he couldn't stomach anymore. He was enraged by the revelation of what happened to me and by the fact that he almost lost his own mother that day. "I never knew!" came out in the midst of all of his rage. As a former RN, I took a different approach. I answered any and all questions my son has ever asked me, including about my own miscarriage. Also, when I was in university I learned of two 11 year olds who were expecting a baby.) Human sexuality education in this country is severely lacking. I miscarried and almost bled out because of a doctor's dismissive attitude. When I made it to the ER, I needed transfusions. The doctor on call from the same practice about lost his mind. I was given a D & C immediately and my husband was by my side the whole time, scared to death. The second time the baby failed to thrive at 4 months and because there were few doctors in my area willing to a D & E and my insurance was horrible...I had to go to a place, through a backdoor (it was legitimate but had been harassed by anti-abortion groups so they tried to keep a low profile) to get care. My husband was with me through that too. No woman wants to go through any of this, but we need the options to do what needs to be done without fear of repercussions. I've talked with my daughters about this. We need to stand up and vote these idiots out so our children don't have to go through this in the future.

To become a registered nurse in 1923, my grandmother took her practical hospital training in Chicago. Because of the horrors she witnessed in pre-Roe America, for the rest of her life she advocated the need for the full spectrum of women's healthcare, including safe abortion. I was a young boy, but I can remember before Roe v. Wade. Abortions were illegal, but they happened. Most of them took place on the kitchen table of a woman with no medical training. The tools of choice were homemade from a wire coat hanger, and the same knife she used to peel apples for a pie. Infection was almost guaranteed, and women died in the thousands every year. Rich women could afford to travel to certain clinics where some doctors could evade the law and perform the operations at a high price, but poor women were reduced to these "back ally" abortionists. I would never ask any woman to go back to such a time.

I've had that same post-miscarriage infection. When I arrived at the ER because extreme pain, it was treated as an emergency, and i received an emergency D&C. It absolutely saved my life. I want to thank the drs who treated me and saved my life. Please vote blue to save lives.

So mothers and their children and their families were suffering, horrific injuries, and life-changing events.. When a woman’s right to have an abortion became law it was the beginning of change.. Healthcare, for these women drastically changed their lives and improved their ability to have families.. The ability to make major decisions that affected their families.. The death rate of women across the United States went down.. Children having to suffer after birth with non-compatible disabilities decrease. The pain of family indoors, having to watch an infant suffer and pass away is .. That agony and suffering could be prevented. Over the past 50 years are healthcare system has learned a great deal and that knowledge improves lives.. I can’t see the future where women do not have the right to choose their own Healthcare decision when I have lived for the past 50 years with that not being a privilege but of that being my right as a woman… Please vote blue so we can change this injustice..

My mother is 86, it took nearly 70 years before she shared her story of an date SA and the baby she was forced to give up. D&C is not illegal in the Philippines, a conservative Catholic Country. My wife had that procedure done when she had a miscarriage with our second pregnancy, we have since had 2 more children after that, no fuss no controversy, just healthcare.

As a nurse, I can attest to the fact that a D&C is a routine (minor) procedure. The body expels the fetus once the fetus is dead. This was not a “living” being. That’s why she developed a fulminating infection, she retained decomposing tissue. I want to sympathize with the healthcare providers, since I wouldn’t want to go to jail either. But since this fetus was dead - this was not an abortion. It was surgery to remove dead tissue. If I were practicing in GA, I would either move or I would change my area of practice. I could not stand there and do nothing. Politicians should not be determining what healthcare patients receive. And make no mistake, those SCOTUS “justices” are politicians. Doctors and other upper level practitioners (NPs and PAs) are leaving those states. I have relatives in Idaho; their local hospital no longer has OB/GYN services because the MDs left. Women now have to go to the "nearest" hospital which is about 1:15 hour drive in good weather. In winter, they have to dive up and over icy winding mountain roads no matter which route they take 😢

I was a 50-something menopausal woman. My uterus did not completely clear a late -age period. I required a D&C. Totally unrelated, in my 70s a UTI resulted in sepsis. It was an awful and terrifying experience for me and my husband who thought I was going to die. To do this to a young, healthy woman is nothing less that criminal. I hope someone in TX files charges, suits, or whatever it takes to stop these horrors. All my thoughts go to that 6-year-old child deprived of a loving mother. I am very, very angry and I vote!
Amber died in Georgia. I’m sure pregnant girls and women have died in Texas too but we don’t have any official analysis.
My mother has had D&C to clean out endometrial tissue because she started to bleed post menopause. She’s had it done twice. She’s 77 and the last time was a year ago.

The same happened to me when I was 18. It was before Roe v Wade but the doctors then were not threatened by jail for performing a life saving procedure.

Me, too. I had to argue with a Kaiser doctor Valeria in Cleveland to get a D and C after I had miscarried. This is a very common and necessary procedure.
My mom had several D&Cs pre Roe, because it was considered health care in those days. In 1968, no one thought anything of it. Miscarriages were considered a medical condition and dealt with accordingly. I am here alive because D&C was legal.

Same. I had a miscarriage & had to have a D & C to remove remaining tissue. After my son was born, I retained some of the placenta which started becoming septic & I developed a bad infection. Fortunately, my mother realized something was wrong & rushed me to the hospital. They did a D & C then too & I was in ICU for almost a week.
I have had four, none abortions. My family has crazy gyno issues. The last was post menopause.
A D&C is health care. But they aren't teaching medical students how to perform them.

My wife had an ectopic pregnancy and needed an abortion to stop the false pregnancy from kiling her. Abortion was banned in Texas the day of her procedure, and her doctor refused to treat her. I had to put her and my two boys in the car and drove 16 hrs, barely stopping to Colorado to get the procedure done. I will never forget this traumatic experience these fools caused me and my family.

My six year old little girl came home from school yesterday and told me that a boy was telling her that she didn't love America. In a sing songy voice taunting her because he brought up Trump. My little one said that she liked Kamala Harris because she seemed happy and nice. She was also excited that she might be the first female President after being the first female Vice President. All I could do was fight back tears that my six year old who still had over a decade before she can even vote is being harassed and her patriotism questioned because a little boy's parents have already taught him intolerance and hatred. She couldn't understand why this little boy could say she was stupid about something neither of them understand. 🫂 I told her we are the United States of America. You can both love your country, disagree, and still be friends. So sad that I'm having to have this conversation with my 1st grader. 🇺🇲💙 In 2024 please vote hate out for the good of our children.

Lawrence I watched this a second time and my emotions match yours. I was as a RN and in the course of time, education through to practice knew that a D&C was not an abortion. I raised that fact each time I’ve heard that lie, here in the US.
I had 2 D&Cs because I wanted to get pregnant and had hidden miscarriages.
If I had been living in the US, today, in the abortion ban states I could have died trying to get pregnant. My son would never have existed.

I’m currently living in a third world country and even here despite it being a fairly religious society, women have access to miscarriage related healthcare. So, knowing that it is time to stop shielding him, in very graphic detail, I told him what happened to me and how I would've died that day had it not been for an emergency D&C. He yelled, "STOP! That's enough!!" At first, I was taken aback by his response and, thinking he didn't want the honest details, I confronted him about silencing me/my truth but he was quick to apologize, not allowing me to finish my push back and told me to continue... and I did... until he couldn't stomach anymore. He was enraged by the revelation of what happened to me and by the fact that he almost lost his own mother that day. "I never knew!" came out in the midst of all of his rage. He didn't... but he does now. Women, tell your truths. This CANNOT continue to be who we are... to allow these men to abuse females and unnecessarily endanger their lives. Sons, defend your mothers. As a former RN, I took a different approach. I answered any and all questions my son has ever asked me, including about my own miscarriage. I also taught him about reproduction before he was a teenager. (That's far too late in my opinion. It's hard to teach someone who is embarrassed by puberty about the human body. Also, when I was in university I learned of two 11 year olds who were expecting a baby.) Human sexuality education in this country is severely lacking. (As evidenced by politicians thinking they know anything about it.) The questions I've been asked by even those that have already had children! 🤦🏼♀️
I miscarried and almost bled out because of a doctor's dismissive attitude. When I made it to the ER, I needed transfusions. The doctor on call from the same practice about lost his mind. I was given a D & C immediately and my husband was by my side the whole time, scared to death. The second time the baby failed to thrive at 4 months and because there were few doctors in my area willing to a D & E and my insurance was horrible...I had to go to a place, through a backdoor (it was legitimate but had been harassed by anti-abortion groups so they tried to keep a low profile) to get care. My husband was with me through that too. No woman wants to go through any of this, but we need the options to do what needs to be done without fear of repercussions. I've talked with my daughters about this. We need to stand up and vote these idiots out so our children don't have to go through this in the future.

Never vote blue as long as they support abortion. Women weren't given the option by Mother Nature to abort a conceived child. Nature endowed women the ability and responsibility of carrying and birthing children. Period. Nature did not provide women with an off button ! Nature did not intend it or Nature would of provided women the means to self abort . Likewise women were not given the choice to abort a fetus once conceived. Again, IF that's what Nature intended women would have been provided the means by nature. Miscarriage is the only means Nature provided, in the event the child wasn't viable, that was a provision Nature provided... even the miscarriage though was not given to women as a choice.
The whole abortion argument was based on emotions not fact or science... never should have been made legal. It goes against the laws of Nature. If a woman doesn't want children, there are PLENTY of options before conceiving. Abortion is a thing invented by the medical community', not Nature

To become a registered nurse in 1923, my grandmother took her practical hospital training in Chicago. Because of the horrors she witnessed in pre-Roe America, for the rest of her life she advocated the need for the full spectrum of women's healthcare, including safe abortion. I was a young boy, but I can remember before Roe v. Wade. Abortions were illegal, but they happened. Most of them took place on the kitchen table of a woman with no medical training. The tools of choice were homemade from a wire coat hanger, and the same knife she used to peel apples for a pie. Infection was almost guaranteed, and women died in the thousands every year. Rich women could afford to travel to certain clinics where some doctors could evade the law and perform the operations at a high price, but poor women were reduced to these "back ally" abortionists. I would never ask any woman to go back to such a time.
This made me sob watching this I feel so terrible for that little six year old boy… and for what??? Politics!??

I've had that same post-miscarriage infection. When I arrived at the ER because extreme pain, it was treated as an emergency, and i received an emergency D&C. It absolutely saved my life. I want to thank the drs who treated me and saved my life. Please vote blue to save lives.

Babies were being born with severe birth defects, even some not compatible with life.. Backroom abortions were killing women and naming them so they would never be able to have children in the . So mothers and their children and their families were suffering, horrific injuries, and life-changing events.. When a woman’s right to have an abortion became law it was the beginning of change.. Healthcare, for these women drastically changed their lives and improved their ability to have families.. The ability to make major decisions that affected their families.. The death rate of women across the United States went down.. Children having to suffer after birth with non-compatible disabilities decrease. The pain of family indoors, having to watch an infant suffer and pass away is .. That agony and suffering could be prevented.
Over the past 50 years are healthcare system has learned a great deal and that knowledge improves lives..

It's important for your voice to be heard by younger women. Tell your stories about how we gained rights and protection, don't be silent about the men eating away at our humanity. My mother is 86, it took nearly 70 years before she shared her story of an date SA and the baby she was forced to give up. It has made me a better mother to my daughter and to be more vocal about protecting my sisters in humanity.
D&C is not illegal in the Philippines, a conservative Catholic Country. My wife had that procedure done when she had a miscarriage with our second pregnancy, we have since had 2 more children after that, no fuss no controversy, just healthcare.
Interestingly it’s not illegal by Georgia law either as this report wants us to believe. Post abortion care is available whether it’s an elected or spontaneous abortion.

As a nurse, I can attest to the fact that a D&C is a routine (minor) procedure. The body expels the fetus once the fetus is dead. This was not a “living” being. That’s why she developed a fulminating infection, she retained decomposing tissue.
I want to sympathize with the healthcare providers, since I wouldn’t want to go to jail either. But since this fetus was dead - this was not an abortion. It was surgery to remove dead tissue. If I were practicing in GA, I would either move or I would change my area of practice. I could not stand there and do nothing.
Politicians should not be determining what healthcare patients receive. And make no mistake, those SCOTUS “justices” are politicians.

Doctors and other upper level practitioners (NPs and PAs) are leaving those states. I have relatives in Idaho; their local hospital no longer has OB/GYN services because the MDs left. Women now have to go to the "nearest" hospital which is about 1:15 hour drive in good weather. In winter, they have to dive up and over icy winding mountain roads no matter which route they take 😢
As O'Donnell says, it is "madness" to deny women health care.
