@gatekeeper media FYI here is some match play scoring verbiage... Match play is technically a point system, but not scored in those terms. - Match is tied = All square - Push or tie a hole = hole is halved - Players win the hole, not win the point (Players are up or down however many holes). That's due to in team format, winning the match is referred to as winning the point or halving the point if the match finishes all square. - In ball golf a PUSH is generally reserved for skins,.. The skins from the previous hole push to the next hole.
I know this is a new format for these guys, but I would hope that the commentators would understand the terminology they are using. If they both score the same on a hole, it is not “pushed” or “tied”. It is halved. The match never goes dormie. The leading player is dormie.
What? You definitely call the match dormie. It is when the leader achieves a lead thats equal to the holes remaining. But the match achieves the dormie status. Not the player. If you're going to ask for the commentators to know what they are talking about, please make sure you know what you are talking about. ***also. As long as we are being pedantic. You are correct about the halved terminology. But halved is used to explain when players tie an individual hole. Or even a match. So saying "tied" doesn't follow proper match play terminology. But it is in no way incorrect. Halved literally means tied in this instance.
@@MParker8200 nope. Looked it up after I commented to make sure I wasn't spewing nonsense. The match becomes dormie. Edit** since you seem to not care to look it up. Next is Dormie, it’s a match play term. In match play, a match is said to reach “dormie” when one of the golfers achieves a lead that matches the number of holes remaining. When a match reaches a state of dormie, there a couple ways the term can be applied: The match will “go dormie” or “has gone dormie”; the match has “reached dormie”; the player who leads has “taken the match dormie.”
You're not alone, but I enjoyed this one. It's not just big flat fields; the way the slopes play, the hill tops and drop offs, and some tree placements actually made this very open, yet technical. I sometimes think people just see golf course and think "boring" because it's been the popular thing to say, recently. There's some very good, very entertaining disc golf to be had on some of these courses.
As much as I am a fan of disc golf with this being the first year I’ll have watched every event from start to finish I gotta say woods golf is way more interesting than open ball golf courses.
Everyone does.. including the players and DGPT. Much harder to get a broadcast signal in the woods though. You want coverage, you're gonna get balls golf courses until the equipment catches up or DGPT buys the equipment and takes over coverage all together
I don't like the 1-Up or 2-Up scoring. I wish it was 1-0, or 4-2 etc. In the end it would be nice to know the winner won x number of holes to the other's x number of holes. In this match Eagle won 5 holes to Colton's 1. Gives a better picture of the match instead of saying Eagle 4UP.
That's just not how match play scoring is shown. What you're talking about is more of a skins format. This way you know how many a player is up vs how many holes left, guess you could do the quick math in the way you are saying but as its shown is how match play is traditionally shown, which makes sense on the win condition.
Seems like a good idea, also think it would be nice to include a 'points available' or something similar next to the scores, provide a quick look at how high the stakes are as they approach the final holes.
@@mikeydamonster yeah ok. I can agree with that to point. Didn't happen too much. And its also the space where ads come in and out. But the times it does happen I can understand that being annoying. I guess just being in the bottom left or right would solve any issues
Did he know this was match play? Every time he was faced with a push or lose situation, he didn't even draw metal or go past the basket. Disappointing to see such misplay in this format. No reason at all to not sail past the chains on half of his putts, yet all of his do or die moments he came up short. deserved loss in my opinion

Match play terminology, guys. It's not a point, and it's not a stroke. It's just a hole. You putt to win a hole. If you're 3 up, you're 3 holes up.
This is much easier to follow than GK Pro’s FPO coverage. It was a good decision to focus on one matchup per video.

Great coverage. Thanks Gatekeeper. Also feels like Earhart's commentary style is perfect for this kind of event.
