- What noise cancelling aviation headset should I buy? In this video, I’m reviewing the Faro G2 ANR aviation headset which is a very affordable noise cancelling aviation headset. I go into a lot of detail about the quality and craftsmanship of this great noise reduction headset, so if you want to purchase a good headset for a reasonable cost, you should check this one out!

I have been using this headset for the last year and a half. It got me through my private pilot and all of my flying since then. It has been comfortable and reliable. I’ve also never had batteries die sooner that expected. I cannot recommend the Faro G2 enough. After I started flying on my own, it’s the headset I bought for my passengers to use. It may not have all the bells and whistles but it’s well within my budget and the noise reduction is excellent!
They definitely seem like they are going to last! I appreciate the comment!
I'm so happy that I found your channel and mad at myself for finding it so late. Cannot appreciate enough for your hard work and all the information you are putting out here for students. Wish i could train with you someday.
You’re welcome! You never know!
Excellent video Josh. I have that exact headset. It has been great so far, about 8 months. It can be hard on batteries if you use cheaper brands. Its definitely a great headset for the price. Thanks for the review and your thoughts. Keep up the excellent work. Safe skies my friend 🇺🇸🛩️
I have been using the same headset for a while and I have always used top quality batteries. I’m inclined to believe, based on my experiences, that batteries are one of those items that you get what you pay for.
Thanks Kevin! That’s cool that you have the same headset! I didn’t realize you did
Thank you for the review. It was very helpful and I found it very accurate, based on my experience. I have used an ANR G2 for 2 years now, but I struggle a little to hear ATC in the very congested Houston environment when I am using flight following or landing at class D. That being said, I usually fly at a non-towered field and I have had no issues there and have logged more than 200 hours with this set. Great videos!
Thanks! Yeah, there’s definitely better headsets, but these are great!
Thank you for the video on headset .I was looking for this kind of video
You’re welcome!
Hey Josh! This is sorta unrelated to this video, I was wondering however if you plan on doing an instrument ground course on this channel too? I recently began my flight training and ground studies for my instrument rating and am finding it to be a lot. You have such an awesome way of explaining the materials you cover that I believe that you're largely to thank for the PPL that I have today. Thanks again!
I want to continue the series, but I’m super busy at the moment. Hopefully, once I get the funds, I can keep working towards that. It just takes time since it’s only me working on them at the moment
I really hope that you're going to read my comment. I do not know how to contact you personally. so I'm just going to post it on your video. so let's make a long story short I just passed my FAA knowledge test all thanks to your great videos.so let me explain why it was very important. so I am 48 years old and I'm flying since I was 14 years old but I have dyslexia disability So reading all the books have no sense to me I tried and I took the test and failed before.then I find out your great video with a great illustration that just embedded in my memory everything I need to know. I was sitting days and night watching every video and learning everything you are teaching over there .AS a student pilot I have probably about 390 hours .I had before a Piper Cherokee for 6 years and now I have a piper colt. the only difference is that now I can finish my license. and get bigger stuff (airplanes) not as a student pilot. all thanks to you.so I just wanted to say thank you. and I would like to talk to you about explaining to people with dyslexia, how to get the proper test with FAA disability accommodation for dyslexia so we can have more people with the freedom to fly.
Thank you so much! I love getting comments like this! Congratulations! That’s a huge accomplishment! I understand completely when it comes to dyslexia! I have my own issues!
Couldn't have been better timing on this vid, I've been contemplating this very headset lol
Awesome! I was waiting till you needed it 😏
I’ve had these for around 4 years now, 80-90 hours. They’re great G2s are sweet.
They seem like a great headset!
Thanks!
Thank you again!
Definitely interested in the farro’s as a second set ! Mis seeing 3148x at KGCM !
You may see it again there soon!
Hi Josh. You have a stellar channel; you've been very helpful on my journey to Private Pilot. I'm not sure where you're based now, but I fly out of KGCM if you're still in NE OK. I've taken the written, have all the hours logged, and have my check-ride endorsement from my instructor. Now, I need a DPE. We're having trouble getting any to respond back, much less give me a schedule. I was wondering if you know any in NE OK (near H04 or KGCM) that you could recommend? I appreciate any assistance you might offer.
J Henry, thank you so much for the Super Thanks! I moved up to Alaska back in October. If I was still around, I’d try to connect with you. As far as DPEs go, I like to use Seth Lake from VSL Aviation in Clarksville Arkansas. He’s a little ways from you, but if you can fly with your instructor over there, he’d be good. I also like Jennifer Wise out of Tulsa who gave me my ppl in 2015. You can find her and all the DPEs in your area on this site here: designee.faa.gov/#/designeeLocator
Good luck on that checkride!
I took a gamble and bought a headset on Amazon from a company called "U Fly Quiet". I was very pleasantly surprised! The noise canceling was good (not great, but good), and it came with accessories to connect to other devices. Back when I bought it Bluetooth was included, but the newer versions don't. :-/ I was gifted a set of used Bose A20s from a family member who was in the Air Force. There is absolutely no comparing the two as far as build quality, the Bose wins hands down. However, while actually using the UFQ headset in flight I'm never "missed" the A20s. All that said, I can't speak to support as I haven't had to use it. I'm fairly certain the Fargos will have better support, at least here in the States.
Excellent input! I’ll have to check those out! Thank you!
I’m surprised turtle beach hasn’t tried out aviation headphones
They should!
@@FreePilotTraining I was today years old to find out they make Xbox Microsoft flight simulator peripherals lol
is the david clark h10 13.4 better
Thanks for the video, can you maybe check out their G3 ANR, my CFI advised me to get one if I wanted the Bluetooth feature.
You’re welcome! Actually, Faro sent me the G3, I just haven’t had a chance to review it yet. It might be a few more weeks before I can get to it, but I will review it. You can also buy a Bluetooth adapter for about $15-20 if you’re looking for a cheaper option to get into Bluetooth
@@FreePilotTraining thanks, looking forward to the next review
I have that exact same headset. I haven't tried them out yet. I am looking forward to it soon. I'll post back what I think of them.
Yeah. I’d love to get your thoughts 😏 you sure it’s this EXACT headset? Lol
I strongly considered these but for whatever reason I went with a UFQ ANR set. They are also Bluetooth. As good as my son's Bose. Both these sets can use an adapter for bluetooth.
I’ll have to check those out!
three things… glad to see another video that proves you made it to Alaska. Great review of the Faro… spending big money is the norm as a student… but NOT necessary. And… all Pastors should fly! 😉
Thanks! I hope to make many more! I really appreciate the comment
I am working on it Jeffery-Flys.
In the bose a20 battery compartment, there's a switch to auto turn off Bluetooth. I never turn mine off, they just auto turn off
That is really good to know. Thanks for the comment
I bought it. Its very comfortable and very nice. I like it a lot. The problem is, i cant hear comms well at all. I can hear the guy next to me, but i cant hear the radio
That’s something you should be able to adjust with the comm panel
@@FreePilotTraining Is there a way to adjust only the volume for the pilot and not affect the copilot? My cfi is convinced it's the headset and not the settings... I'm also his first student with this problem, among others 😅
For reference, I'm with ATP, flying G1000 cessnas
Anybody tried some of the clarity aloft in ear headsets? Wondering about it since battery on my noise cancelling headsets died several times in flight. Faro also has the in ear headsets and compared to Clarity there is a significant price difference!
I haven’t used those. Any good?
@@FreePilotTraining Not yet, but I was wondering about the in ear option for two reasons: I wear prescription glasses and the frame slightly messes up the active noise cancelling (seal not perfect). I like wearing a cap as well and not having something over my head sounds appealing.
you should compare this to their AIR In ear headset.
They want to send it to me. I just haven’t had time to mess with it yet
My Bose A30 is 30db noise reduction on high, 10db on medium setting and around 5db on low.
I’ve been wondering about the A30s. Thanks for the comment
@@FreePilotTraining Yea and for the price of them you need to donate an organ.
AFTER YOUR video, it's now $400,00 +
Of course…try Amazon. It’s still $350 over there: amzn.to/3wfuneG
But they just went down to $350 on Amazon (April ‘24)
Stay away from the Sigtronics noise cancelling headset unless you like a loud squealing sound in one of your ears, and they are not exactly cheap
Not so great huh?
If you do want bluetooth on that controller, they make small Output Audio Receivers for under $20... they can receive bluetooth from your phone and send it over an audio jack. (Keep in mind that it's a second battery to keep charged) Just keep the volume low enough that you don't miss ATC!
I’ve seen those! Might be worth testing out!
