Thanks, we have had our 93sv for over a year and still struggle to get more use out of it. Garmin does not have much in the way of tutorial videos, so really appreciate your work. Big Question: The transducer is transom mounted, once we spot a fish, is there a trick to really knowing where that fish is relative to the boat at that moment? Say in 20' of water, is the fish directly under the boat or directly behind us? How do we tell if it is left or right? Seems like a critical topic for future video. Thanks!
Hey Dennis! I’m glad you like the videos! I’ll keep them coming. To know exactly where the fish are, you first have to know which style sonar you are using. 2d/traditional and down view sonar they will generally be directly under the boat as those types of sonar shoot directly beneath the boat. NOW if you are moving a lot and are marking fish on these types of sonar, they will be beneath the boat and behind you. How far you might ask? Well that’s very hard to determine as there are a lot of factors that come into play there. One way to get a better idea of where they are at is to drop a waypoint on them. I have a video that shows you exactly how to do that. Once you drop the waypoint on them you can circle back and get pretty close to them granted they are moving objects as well. No for side imaging, depending on what side of the screen they show up on will tell you what side of the boat they are on. So if they show up on the left side of the screen they will be to the left side of the boat and behind because all images that show up on your screen are history or you have driven over or by them. To tell how far out to the side you can use the range at the bottom of the screen to give you a estimate as to how far to the side they are. Again I would recommend to drop a waypoint on them and then circle back
@@MGMarineTech Thanks.. another question is around software updates .. will the Garmin just automatically do a version upgrade? Or do, you have to initiate it? seems like another good video topic. also, just now using the device as a wi-fi hot spot while on the lake.
To answer your question, sonars read from _Right to Left_ . The closer objects are to the right of your screen, the closer they are to the vessel. There is a function called a "scope", which I'm not sure if Garmin has that on these models. The scope shows what is _directly underneath the transducer_ at the present moment. The left and right views show you which side of the transducer you are getting a ping from. Keep in mind that you can set the "range" the transducer will scan on each side in feet. Be aware though that setting this range to a high value will result in a larger scan area, but large fish will seem "small" because a 3 foot fish will seem small in a range covering 100 feet on your screen. Hope this helps. And remember, if at first you don't succeed, so much for sky diving. 😁
I have never had a overheating issue and I never put them into sleep mode when going spot to spot. If you don’t have it out of the water baking in the sun for hours on end you should be ok. I have heard of guys that have accidentally left them on for days with no damage.

@@MGMarineTech The depth shaded colors red for shallow and so forth. i used to get numbers on the screen signifying the depth of the water around me... not just color
@@AnthonyAngler hmm they should still be there. Might try zooming in more on the map? Or there might be a “detail” setting in the map settings. Like more/less detail. I’m not sure exactly where that setting is, but I would check under the map settings first and if it’s not there I would look under the system settings, I hope this helps
@@AnthonyAngler this might help you find where that setting is as well. www8.garmin.com/manuals/webhelp/echomap/EN-US/GUID-312EE5C2-BD01-495A-AE06-69DA5D1501A8.html
Can I add a "splitter" to my transducer cable and run another connection to the bow of my boat, so that I can just take my locator to the bow instead of buying another separate locator?
You can, there is a setting for “heads up” which keeps the boat icon stationary and the map rotates And there is a setting for north up which just keeps north up. Should be found here: Navigation Chart > Options > under the Layers options choose Settings (right side) > Map Orientation >
Yes it can be used in fresh or salt. As far as the maps, that depends on which unit you purchase or which additional card you purchase. For instance. A 93 unit is a 9” screen with USA inland maps. A 94 unit is the same as a 93 being a 9” screen but has different maps.
I am very new at this. when we start to drive the boat, what makes it show tracks on my fishing chart. I did set up combo with side view on top, clear down view on left corner and fishing chart on the right corner. I do see how to make and delete way points. I do not see how to make the boat lay down tracks.
I think you mis read my question. I have looked at all of your videos. I only needed to know what do I do to make the fishing chart show the boats tracks while just driving around? If it is on the other videos, I missed it.
Stupid question. I know it’s not recommended to use the transducer out of the water but this is fine powering up without having the transducer connected right?
So as long as you don’t leave it on for hours on end with the transducer connected and it’s not in the sun you should be ok. BUT there are two simple things you can do. 1 simply press the power button one time and a screen should pop up allowing you to “disable sonar transmission” or something along those lines, if you disable the sonar it should turn off the transducer. Or 2 simply disconnect the transducer from the screen if the plug is easy to get to.
I’m in Texas, and I’ve been told that Garmin mapping is terrible in TX lakes. Is this true? Also, if it is, can I buy a third party mapping system like lakemaster? Thanks. Great video.
I can’t speak for Texas but the lakes around me that are mapped are ok with the base maps.. They aren’t the detail of say the navionics maps, (a garmin company) but they get the job done. You can however purchase a “lakevü g3 ultra west” card and that will cover Texas in much more detail. If all else fails there is a built in feature that I will be covering very thoroughly here very soon and that is QuickDraw contours. This allows you to map any body of water with 1’ contours to make a extremely detailed map. And I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before garmin allows a navionics card to be used in their plotters
Hey Andy, if you haven’t already, check out my waypoint video that’s on my channel. That video should be able to answer that question for you better than I would be able to via text. If that still doesn’t answer it I’d be more than happy to help.
It sure is! Check out my other video that covers that exact topic. Its called “Garmin quick tip: How to Display depth reading on your charts!” It will walk you through all the steps

Getting a 94sv on a new boat package. New 115 and 9.9 Merc. I'd like the stats on my Garmin. How do I synchronize motors with gauges feature on Garmin.
Hi Garry, that will require the motors to be hooked up to the nema 2000 port on the back of the unit if they are compatible. If you already have the “smartcraft gauges” that has a nema2000 output and you will need to hook that to your unit via a nema 2000 network kit. If you don’t have the smartcraft gauges you will need a mercury gateway module and a nema 2000 network kit. If you are local to me I would love to make a video on this process. My engine isn’t new enough to be able to get this type of data to my units. I would happily help you install it and make sure it’s working properly
Thanks, looks like I need the mercury gateway module/nmea 2000 network kit. So if I get vessel view mobile, that won't sync with Garmin blue tooth? I'll have to have it hard wired sounds like?

Hi. Just finished my install Echomap 73sv. Went into simulator mode, but now that I've launched the boat, HOW DO I TAKE IT OUT OF SIMULATOR MODE? Thanks, Ken
The simple answer is the opposite way that you put it into simulator mode. I don’t remember the exact screens, but I believe you go to the main screen but menu and then system. It should be in there somewhere. If you don’t find it let me know I will power up a unit and show you.
Hey Jeff, That topic is covered in my networking video. It will show you exactly what you need to do and what you can do once networked. It’s called “Networking Garmin Echomap and Ultra units explained with examples!”
I’m having problems with my set up of split screens. I want a combo of compass and route, but it only show nav and fish charts. No gauges or compass. How can I move to any option to fill my split screen? Thanks

@@MGMarineTech The depth shaded colors red for shallow and so forth. i used to get numbers on the screen signifying the depth of the water around me... not just color
thanks for the quick response by the way
@@AnthonyAngler hmm they should still be there. Might try zooming in more on the map?
Or there might be a “detail” setting in the map settings. Like more/less detail.
I’m not sure exactly where that setting is, but I would check under the map settings first and if it’s not there I would look under the system settings,
I hope this helps
@@AnthonyAngler this might help you find where that setting is as well.

Does that unit make a noise when it picks up a fish? Thanks
There might be a option for that but I don’t know that I’ve seen it.
Can I add a "splitter" to my transducer cable and run another connection to the bow of my boat, so that I can just take my locator to the bow instead of buying another separate locator?
Not that I am aware of. I don’t believe they make that.
You would need another transducer, power cable, and cradle to do that.
How do you get the menu bar to drop off the screen? I was able to do it in my 93sv plus but I can't remember how I did it.
Check out my video “Make your screen BIGGER for FREE! Garmin quick tips and tricks” it will walk you through how to do that exact thing
With these units, on the Navigation screen, can you set the map to always have N on top? Or does the map always rotate ?
You can, there is a setting for “heads up” which keeps the boat icon stationary and the map rotates
And there is a setting for north up which just keeps north up.
Should be found here:
Navigation Chart > Options > under the Layers options choose Settings (right side) > Map Orientation >
Your Awesome!!! Thanks much!!
Can I used in freshwater and salt water? All maps are include?
Yes it can be used in fresh or salt.
As far as the maps, that depends on which unit you purchase or which additional card you purchase.
For instance. A 93 unit is a 9” screen with USA inland maps. A 94 unit is the same as a 93 being a 9” screen but has different maps.
My Windex is connected to the unit the network is seeing it, but it’s not showing any data
I am very new at this. when we start to drive the boat, what makes it show tracks on my fishing chart. I did set up combo with side view on top, clear down view on left corner and fishing chart on the right corner. I do see how to make and delete way points. I do not see how to make the boat lay down tracks.
Check out my other videos, I have ones on all of those topics
I think you mis read my question. I have looked at all of your videos. I only needed to know what do I do to make the fishing chart show the boats tracks while just driving around? If it is on the other videos, I missed it.
New to this but does it require Wi-Fi? when you’re out on the water.
No not at all
How did you do this without setting up electrical components? I wanna play with mine but it’s not on my boat yet
Just a 12v battery and the power cable.
Or
2 simply disconnect the transducer from the screen if the plug is easy to get to.
Thanks for sharing!
I’d love to play with one of these, hoping work allows some trips this year! Walleye opener?
Absolutely!
When you save a waypoint, how do you assign it a name? Thanks
Hey Andy, if you haven’t already, check out my waypoint video that’s on my channel. That video should be able to answer that question for you better than I would be able to via text.
If that still doesn’t answer it I’d be more than happy to help.
I just installed this unit, I would like to have charts up and show my speed on the same screen. Is this an option?
It sure is!
Check out my other video that covers that exact topic. Its called “Garmin quick tip: How to Display depth reading on your charts!”
It will walk you through all the steps
@@MGMarineTech thank you
Can you show how to access the pre-loaded Maps? I can't seem to locate them. I have a new 73CV. Thank you!
I will add that to the list of things to do, but for now you most likely have to download them through ActiveCaptain and then sync them to your unit
@@MGMarineTech oh no! Not what I was expecting.
I have keel offset in the demonstration mode, but it doesn’t show when in real mode. I would like it to read 1.25 feet deeper than it does.
You should be able to apply a offset in the “installation” menu
Thanks for posting. Do you have a video on how to assign data to my navigation chart screen? Currently only my chart is displayed. I'd like to add my depth and speed to be displayed but can't figure out how.
You want to display Depth and speed on your navigation chart?
@@MGMarineTech yes, basically just those two items.
@@adamfischer6768 I can make up a video for that real quick for you, you just have to mess with the overlay menu. But I can do that for you

@@hooks4nooks I’m not sure on that one. I know for the gauges to work on the garmin the info has to come over via the nema network
Ok, thank you for your time. Great video. Very helpful.
Do you know how to make the depth reading show up when using the navigation chart?
Yes that requires a screen overlay
What is the engage circle option when you click the power button?
Would you happen to know the amp hour rate for this model? I want to use a LiPo4 battery with this unit and need to know how many hours I can use this unit with a small portable battery pack.
Hey John!
If you look at my other videos I have one that shows how to size a battery for your needs. It’s labeled as : Lithium Battery Tech - How to size a battery to fit your electrical needs.
In this video it will show you how to size a battery and also the amp draw of the 93 as I believe I use that as a example.
Off the top of my head it’s around 1.5amp
What do you use to power up the unit
Just a 12v battery
How do I get the unit to pick up my location instead of just showing off the coast of FL?
If you have simulator mode on turn it off

I have a 73sv and a 93sv is there anyway to link the 2 for like my way points or do you have a cord ran from unit to unit
