    That sound brings back so many childhood memories. I remember this daily when browsing the World Wide Web when I was a kid! Love this type of content! Keep it up!

    Such a nostalgic sound. There was also having to deal with the choice of being on the internet or having use of your phone unless a second line was hooked up to the house.

      Yes! Always a struggle... Remember waiting hours for a single download? :)

    I've always been really curious about how exactly the internet was like back then, considering I grew up with ipads and MacBooks, and use things like Google Fiber nowadays. thank you for posting this and explaining what everything is!!!

      No problem and this was one of my very early videos! The internet back then was very exciting, always new technology coming out just to make it a little bit faster. Those were the days where you had a phone line you connected to and had to tell everyone you were going on the internet just to make sure no one picked up the phone and disconnected you! To download a simple .mp3 took 30+ minutes :)

    I feel nostalgic. That was the time in yesteryear that you have high tech devices and play chess with someone on the other side of the globe.

    I remember the 1990's porn was painful but it loaded. Or playing quake 3 multiplayer at 150 ping which was great far away server i would get 400 ping lol. Fun time!! I remember when I would be on drugs 1990's and i would be paranoid dialing to connect to the internet not letting my mom know I'm still awake. HA very good time.

      @@TheRetroRecall Dude. I not sure it was like maybe 1998 or 99 i would help everyone with the school computer. My teacher was cool. So cool I would do my work and have pass to fuck around at library or let me go to band class just chill and such. My band teacher didn't care how ever everyone get a pass to go band class can be whole day. My class would be always after lunch anyways my english teacher who i help with his computer and help other student caught me with my floppy. He ask me the disk so he can scan. He scan and open up few pic of naked chicks i had on my disk. He smile and said this is mine now. Either way never got busted just a smile nobody knew. He still gave me a pass to go to band class play half life. We had classes we can go for free time to game or play music oh love 1990's era. :)

    I remember that as a kid, I liked to play around with the voicemail system of a Sportster 33.6K Voice modem 🙂 I think I made it into voice prompts for a tech-support line (which most likely no one ever called 😂).

      Thanks! I use Net Zero dial up service that is still available / active. If you Google NetZero access numbers it should produce a listing for different geographical locations. Hope this helps!

    Ah the old days when you had to wait an hour just to download 10 MB...i tried a similar thing here in germany back in 2020, only i tried to browse modern websites. Many of them just timed out trying to load them. Let's assume a modern website is about 2 MB in size and with a 56K modem you could get around 4 KB/s download speed on average. That would mean that such a website would need 500 seconds to load or more than 8 minutes. 8 minutes for a single website...I actually achieved a few 100 KBit/s download speeds with a 56K modem when i enabled ISP-side data compression, but the images and videos on websites are already compressed so that doesn't help much there.

      Home phone can connect directly to the modem on this model... It's also a fax and personal voicemail modem from USRobotics.

      @TheRetroRecall Never set up a dialup connection before, but what landline/dialup service provider are you using? I recently signed up for the free netzero dialup plan they have advertised but the only thing I'm missing is the actual landline service that will beable to dial from. Any suggestions?

    • @TheRetroRecall
      @TheRetroRecall  Год назад

      I am signed up with he same free NetZero account, however my TV / Internet service comes with a home phone service as part of that package. I Googled free home phone services and a few came up however I am not sure if they would have the correct connections. It's one of those things I suppose you would have to look into. There is also other gateway technology that will allow you to connect your computer via dial up through your cell phone - I plan on doing a video on that in the future.

    We are all spoiled nowadays by very fast 1 gigabit always on broadband internet speeds, lol.
