  • The new on arrived!! I bought a larger sized Pith Helmet, the French Style. It has tons more room and I think gives me more coverage for better shade. I purchased directly from the Village Hat Shop .com /Pithhelmets.com. There was a summer solstice sale which means I was able to get it shipped for around $35. Buy direct from them, they charge shipping on Amazon, but its included if you buy direct. They have all kinds of cool hats.

    My dad got me one as a joke too (mine is a British foreign service helmet style), and I similarly found it very good. I have worn it all over the world.

    Oh My! I don't have a Pith Helmet. Wow! You do have a big melon! 10"? Are they OK for rain? Do they hold up? $45, Now I'm not sure, I'm pretty cheap. You look dapper wearing it. Love your style, thanks Dave!

      I haven't had the old one in the rain, but you are supposed to wet the outside in hot weather to make it cooler inside. i know that it works w a sprinkler on a tin roof, the are fairly durable. I'll just have to see the lifespan..

    Nice man. Glad you got you a new one before you destroyed the old one. lol You need to protect that melon you got. lol Have you been on a bender for the 4th of July and that is why you are struggling? lol I like that you said we will figure that out previously in a future video. You knew the cut video would be out first. Very well played. Hey if you like it that is all that matters. I think it cool and different. Thanks for sharing.

      I wish I'd had the bender. worked all weekend 8 hr days, plus did 2 security shifts 10 pm to 2am Thursday and Saturday nights. been doing 830 to 5 Saturday's, then 10 pm to 2am as we don't have a security person to accompany our paid deputy each week.

    Hey, I read that you can soak it in water to keep your head extra cool. The website, however, states to not soak the inside.
    "Please Note: Pith helmets can be immersed in water, whereby the wearer stays cool during use on hot summer days. Please submerge the outside of the helmet carefully, without allowing water to spill into the interior of the helmet."
    Do you have experience with soaking the inside? What could happen? Does it water down glue or why do they not want us to soak it fully?

      not sure. ,i applied a lot of sweat on the headband and it got the liner wet. some of the inside cloth loosened up but it was held in place by the vents and such. i think wetting just the outside causes it to cool better as the.water evaporates probably draws the air out from the inside. maybe wetting both sides would lessen the cooling... just my thoughts..

    How would I pack one of these in a suitcase without causing any damage?

    • @cariboudave
      @cariboudave  2 года назад +1

      I'd get a suitcase that was big enough to hold it, while padding it clothing, that should keep suitcase safe, the other option would be to wear it on your head, suitcase optional.

      @@cariboudave sorry for the late reply but thank you. So do I also put cloeths inside as well as outside the hat? And do I put it facing upwards or downwards?

    • @cariboudave
      @cariboudave  2 года назад

      well, my understanding is wool clothing is the best to use, some say British Red. But I would be placing it up on the northern hemisphere, Down on the southern hemisphere, Equatorial region's I'd base it on the trade winds and other orographic factors.
