  • We thought it would be cool to start breaking down segments and ranking cars based on a few categories. Performance, fuel economy, price, maintenance, design, interior design, and standard features.
These are just 5 of the top selling that we thought we'd rank as it includes entries from the U.S, Japan, and Europe. We may include a part two with some other entries from this absolutely massive segment. Let us know in the comments what you'd like to see for this style of video next!
    Time Stamps:
    1:02 - Base Price
    4:07 - Performance
    5:47 - Fuel Economy
    8:22 - Maintenance
    12:05 - Exterior Styling/Design
    16:06 - Interior Design
    18:59 - Standard Features
    22:22 - Overall Rank

Great commentary gents. Picking something in this segment is tough. While I am not a fan at all the Nissan Rogue seems to be liked by many transportation appliance buyers. My favorite to drive in this category is actually the Tiguan. Totally agree on the CR-V. Not a good drive and quite the homely looking thing. I think I like the Escape a little more than you guys. But if I were forced to buy something, I probably would try to get a RAV4 hybrid. The cx-5 is awesome but the MPGs are rough in this day and age. Again if I am buying the CX-5 for something good to drive, well we have sedans and hatchbacks for that. Again, great content. Objective scoring is tough.

Yeah we are honestly thinking we may need to do a part 2, because this segment is just so huge. I think I’d probably go RAV4 Hybrid as well. It’s just a great all arounder and we know the powertrain is pretty bulletproof too. We like the escape more than a lot of stuff in the segment, but you just have to go SE/SEL to get a decent interior. Hard to get past the 4.2 in LCD without CarPlay. Have you driven an escape with the 3 cylinder? I’m trying to get our hands on one for review, so we can dive into it more. Nick liked the Tiguan, so hopefully we can get one of those to compare against the Taos too! This summer is going to be review heavy I think.

@@aveautomotive2441 looking forward to watching your channel and podcast grow. Yea, the 3 cylinder isn’t bad with that typical 3 cylinder growl harmonics and decent torque, a little like the Tiguan in performance. The escape used to be a good value play way undercutting Msrps but the chip shortage stopped all that. As you point out, at MSRP it’s not as competitive on features. I do need to drive a Taos. That car has spawned love and hate in the journalist community.
