    Thanks for the PSA on prepare carefully. I stopped using it a long time ago in favour of character editor but I had no idea how bad that mod actually is. I assume it's simply still on the top results for most popular mods on the workshop and gets featured by default in list videos.

    • @Thekilleroftanks
      @Thekilleroftanks 4 месяца назад +1

      It's that but also the fact all the other character mods are dog shit in terms of UI and prepared is already bad in that department.
      Other character mods require you to learn a whole new game pretty much to use it

      It also has some bits that are great for people who struggle with self-control, like calculating a colonist's value and only being there for the initial starting of your playthrough, helps make sure your tweaks to a pawn don't go far beyond what the RNG gives you and removes the temptation of tweaking every bad pawn the storyteller tries to force into your colony.

  • @shoelessbandit1581

    Now this is how you start a new year. Some things I've noticed while attempting a royal playthrough though is that it's royal pain in the butt towards the end. I had to start a second colony just to build a second royal palace, rooms also have a max size limit meaning making a throne room for the higher ranks gets super crowded especially if you're trying to stick multiple thrones in there as you need multiple high ranked colonists. Also I never once experienced terrorism that wasn't just them trying to shoot my nobles though I'm awful at modding so it's probably on my end

    • @MysteriousFawx
      @MysteriousFawx  6 месяцев назад +1

      Map size is definitely a consideration for nobles. Changing the generation size to the biggest is probably the only way you could ever fit everything comfortably into a single tile without needing to do some shenanigans.

    some stuff I've noticed from using this mod a few days, starting on New Family with CE and Psycasts Expanded enabled [and they're pretty great]:
    1) you basically can't win the initial fight with the start without a psylink, and rolling an ascetic pawn as your starting baron blocks psylinks, so you'd have to devmode that in. [I did. ascetic ftw]
    2) if you figured out step 1 [psychic shock from VPE helps a lot], plan on keeping the burning/beat-down base, and want to stop your expensive stuff from being looted, you have a choice:
    a) save the huge gold statue, and sell it for like 35-40k silver to buy armor/provisions if you didn't shock+strip a few raiders for deserter gear + guns
    b) save the piano for your throneroom if you want to avoid having a dedicated researcher spam those technologies out at the start of the game to satisfy your title
    3) it makes you start with a random high-tier melee weapon. if you have VFE: insectoids enabled, those special plasma weapons can generate, and if you get the chainsaw, you can't penetrate deserter armor and will die. if you get a plasmasword or zeushammer, shock a raider and become a highlander from the get-go
    4) just grab what you can and run. I did this, and had a great time. your wealth goes down from around 150k to 80, which is a lot more manageable. I started that colony with one of the Nephilim guys from that respective mod, and solo-defended for almost the entire run with looted deserter armor, a toxblade, and calling my laborer team on cooldown to plant my angel crack + food.
    Happy new year, boys! and good luck 🤝

    • @MysteriousFawx
      @MysteriousFawx  6 месяцев назад +3

      Super small interaction with one of the weapons you've mentioned that I absolutely love. The Gladiator meme from Alpha memes gives all melee attacks a chance to stun, combined with the plasmasaw, which hits 10 times a second, makes for the most bonkers and broken melee line you can possibly imagine. Being able to stunlock Gallatross was always hilarious.

    Could not agree more about Prepare Carefully, I have had so many issues with it, one big one was pawns spawning as invisible (like literally not there at all) but could still be selected, but the cell "they are on" would teleport all over the map every few seconds, ruined a lot of my runs tbh in my earlier days before I just ditched it.

      Aye, you'll always get people say 'well I've always used prepare carefully and I never have any issues'. But they're also likely only running a handful of QoL mods and never making a colony go longer than 120 days.
      It's insanely destructive on long runs.

      I've got an 'essentials' series planned, the main issue is how dry the scripting for those style of mods is, so I'm trying to punch it up a little when I can. It'll cover things like Allow Tool, Work Tab, PUAH, Common Sense and the dozens of Tweak mods I use to make gameplay smoother. A lot of that will play into improving Ticks too.

    Uh oh, I'm on year 7 of a massive colony and I have Prepare Carefully installed. I didn't know it was broken. Haven't noticed any issues that I think are attributed to it, but I have a few race and xeno mods and they get mixed up sometimes so I'll see like a Predator from AvP with pig ears or a Qu from All Tomorrows with a white box for a body. Don't think that's Prepare Carefully though, and it doesn't impact my game too much.

    • @MysteriousFawx
      @MysteriousFawx  6 месяцев назад +1

      It's one of those things that can be hard to tell until you compare it side by side to a similar colony that was made without it.
      I used to put low ticks down to 'well it's just because my colony is so big, it has a lot to process'.
      But similar colonies without PC were getting anywhere from 60-100 ticks more. It becomes incredibly more noticeable when your mod list creeps into the 300+ range. I can still get full ticks at 3x speed with my current setup, PC wouldn't even reach the 2x cap with that much going on.

    I put a fair few hours into this mod but I cant help but feel it takes ages to get stuff. Even by starting with the royal scenario!
    The balls, the hosting of stuff, also feels lacklustre, because the game just randomly chooses who to play instruments and who to dance with. I'll certainly have it installed, but I doubt I'll ever play it to the end again.

    • @MysteriousFawx
      @MysteriousFawx  6 месяцев назад

      I had the same thing, it makes working with the Empire and having royal pawns a lot more interesting, but means I'm really unlikely to get a 'high' rank with nobility because it costs so much to keep them happy.

  • @falsinar
    @falsinar 6 месяцев назад

    You've said that mods that include pawn generation that needs to be stored in worldpawn data causes issues. Do you know if RandomPlus is also problematic in this way?
    Great video btw, i'm definitely giving this mod a go. Spicing up the nobility aspect sounds really nice.

    • @MysteriousFawx
      @MysteriousFawx  6 месяцев назад +1

      Not sure on randomplus personally, I've stopped using pawn editors of any kind due to them occasionally causing conflicts with generation and using multiple xenotype mods. There is a more 'official' VE version of an editor coming out soon that'll work far more safely alongside other mods.
      Steam workshop discussion will be your best place to check for randomplus, see if anyone else is raising issues.

    Actually... If this helps.. I created a 7mil colony and I.. Have no idea what I'm doing to begin with, but point is, my large dining area has one ideological art piece and reactional games and musical instruments, it's "wonderously impressive" because everything in the room is made of gold, purposely masterworked (mod let's the pawn constantly rebuild until it hits the quality u want) and it's listed as a Ballroom, my dining room just got listed as Ballroom... And now I know why...
    P.S I am using Dev mode to purposely increase my wealth by spawning in gold or other high quality items because I want to see and learn how to defend against large scale raids on max difficult, so you know, wonderously impressive is not from my personal skill. Tho this colony likely lost thanks to prep carefully xD
    Also amazing video, I have Empire in sleep mode, I had it because I hated the idea of having royal pawns but empire added so much I decided to get it, but I'll activate it and see how long I'll last with them. Pretty cool stuff

    • @MysteriousFawx
      @MysteriousFawx  6 месяцев назад

      Raids will always cap at 1million, but you can always keep using dev mode to generate quests to see you if you can get a 2 or 3 star difficulty one, that seems to exceed the raid point cap and throw the biggest possible threats your way.
      Biggest one in raw numbers I ever got was 3 waves of tribals with each one having 150 members. The map was utter carnage.

    • @MysteriousFawx
      @MysteriousFawx  4 месяца назад +1

      It works outside the framework of other mods and even base game systems. Creating pawns via destructive means which are unable to be cleared up with standard garbage collection (GC).
      What this means is that over time, you generate hundreds, even thousands of pawns that are never cleared from background data. They just sit around and slow down your save file so using 2 or 3 times speed does absolutely nothing.

    • @MysteriousFawx

      Unfortunately not. If prepare carefully was used when creating a save it has already littered your world data with 'broken' pawns. You can remove it and it won't immediately break the save, but you're very likely to encounter a greyscreen error down the line which will essentially make that colony unplayable.
      You *might* be able to fix it by pulling out PC and then using Dubs Performance with the Greyscreen Fix it provides turned on, but your ticks won't recover from what PC has dumped into the background.

      For anyone wondering, the pawns created/edited use an old system, meaning you would have 1.1 and 1.5 humans running around in your world together.
      That throws a lot of errors in the background, makes the 1.1 not work with most modern/modded content, and overall is a pretty bad thing.
      If you load it up on 1.5, start a world, edit your pawn, and it loads up and you go "oh, it works then" then be my guest. But don't be confused when 30 hours in you send a caravan and the movement speed on the world map is always zero.

      If I follow tutorials and do what everyone else does, it makes my content stand out even less. It turns into the RUclips algorithm slush with no brand, no recognition and just melts into the background.
      Sometimes you've gotta just do something different and step away from what everyone tells you is the best thing because as we all know, the algorithm never stops changing.
      A brand? My own style? That can stick around as long as I need it.
